A Study of Estimating Local Marginal Power Rate Based on Load Supplying Capability Evaluation Method (최대전력수송량 산정기법을 이용한 지역간 수송여유율에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, an alternative method which can evaluate a marginal power exceeding yearly peak load for each load bus is proposed. The proportion of the marginal power to yearly peak load for each load bus is defined as Local Marginal Power Rate (LMPR). Furthermore, the composite system is separated base on the LMPR. The bottleneck facilities could be found, while the LMPR is estimated. Then, it is possible to provide information concerning improvement in the system reliability by bottleneck facilities. The IEEE Reliability Test System (RTS) is used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

  • A power generation systems are proposed to convert ambient mechanical vibration into electrical energy using cantilever-type piezoelectric materials. The vibration-based power device can be used for self-powered systems without batteries. This paper presents the theoretical analysis for the coupled equations of piezoelectric and structural motions and investigates the dynamic characteristics of the self-power system using transfer function method. The theoretical model is verified by the finite element analysis of the resonance frequency, the dynamic response of the structure and the sensor sensibility. Experimental results measured using a prototype system agree with the theoretical predictions. The system is shown to produce 34.5 ㎼ in average. Finally, we perform the optimal design for system variables to maximize output power.

Comparison of Energy Efficiency by Production Frontier Approach: Based on OECD Countries (생산 프론티어 접근을 통한 에너지효율 비교: OECD 국가를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of the article is to compare the impacts of energy efficiency and economic growth for energy demand through production frontier approach in OECD countries. We compared the traditional energy intensity with energy efficiencies of production frontier approach, slack efficiency on the frontier, and estimated elasticity of energy demand for GDP growth. First, the energy intensity has a low relationship with energy efficiency by radial approach, but has constant correlations with slack energy efficiency, slack-adjusted efficiency by non-radial approach, and energy efficiency by horizon approach. If we measure energy efficiency only with energy elasticity, it may make a mistake. Especially the energy efficiency by radial approach has a tendency to overestimate most OECD countries. Second, as many countries have excess energy consumption of 17.3% even on the points of the frontier, reduction of energy consumption is necessary in addition. Third, the average energy elasticity of OECD countries is 1.1 close to elasticity 1. There exists the difference of elasticity among countries and the energy demands are also high in countries with high elasticity.

  • Sensitivity on the reactor safety was evaluated for the safety margin and time delay applied to the opening pressure of liquid relief valve(LRV) of the primary heat transport system(PHTS) in the pressurized heavy water reactor(PHWR) type nuclear power plant. Since the LRV is the pressure boundary for the PHTS in the safety analysis, the operating of LRV has a significant effect on the safety analysis results. Therefore it is required during the regulatory review of Wolsong Unit 1 safety analysis to find the safety effect of the application of safety margin and time delay to the LRV opening pressure for the safety analysis of PHTS pressurizing events.

Inelastic Energy Absorption Factor for the Seismic Probabilistic Risk Assessment of NPP Containment Structure (확률론적 지진위험도 분석을 위한 원전 격납건물의 비탄성에너지 흡수계수 평가)

  • In order to assure the safety of NPP structures, margin of safety or conservatism is incorporated in each design step. Seismic risk evaluation of NPP structures is performed based on the realistic capacity and response of structure eliminated the safety margin and conservatism. In this study, the comparative study on the various evaluation methods of the inelastic energy absorption capacity was performed. The inelastic energy absorption capacity due to the nonlinear behavior of structures has significant effect on the results of seismic probabilistic risk assessment. And the comparison study of the HCLPF(high confidence of low probability of failure) values according to the inelastic energy absorption factors was performed. As a conclusion, the inelastic energy absorption factor of NPP containment structure is estimated about 1.5~1.75. It is essential to estimate the nonlinear behavior of structure and its ductility factor correctly for the seismic risk assessment.

A Study for Evaluating of Voltage Stability Margin Considering Shunt Capacitor (조상설비를 고려한 전압안정성 여유전력의 평가에 관한 연구)

  • This paper presents a fast calculation method for evaluating of voltage stability margin (MW) using the line flow equation in polar form. Here, Line flow equations $(P_{ij},\;Q_{ij}$ are comprised of state variable, $V_i,\;{\Delta}_i,\;V_j$ and ${Delta}_j$, and line parameter, r and x. using the feature of polar coordinate, these becomes one equation with two variables, $V_j,;V_j$. Moreover, if bus j is slack or generator bus, which is specified voltage magnitude in load flow calculation, it becomes one equation with one variable $V_ i $ that is, may be formulated with the second-order equation for $V^2_i$. Therefore, multiple load flow solutions may be obtained with simple computation. The obtained load flow multiple solutions are used for evaluating of voltage stability through sensitivity analysis or its closeness. Also, the method is proposed to calculate for voltage stability margin considering shunt capacitor, which is important element for evaluating of voltage stability. The proposed method was validated to sample systems.

  • This paper proposes a scheduling algorithm that can reduce the power consumed for execution of application programs and the communication cost incurred due to dependencies among tasks. The proposed scheduling algorithm can increase energy efficiency of the DVS(Dynamic Voltage Scaling) by estimating laxity usage during scheduling, making up for conventional algorithms that apply the DVS after scheduling. Energy efficiency can be increased by applying the proposed algorithm to complex multimedia applications. Experimental results show that energy consumptions for executing HD MPEG4, MotionJPEG codec, MP3, and Wavelet have been reduced by 11.2% on the average, when compared to conventional algorithms.

  • In this paper, the effective transmission method is proposed to save the energy and to increase the throughput of the communication system using adaptive modulation. Traditionally, adaptive modulation has been used to improve the throughput using the power margin of the system design. Considering the instantaneous energy during the modulation method changing duration, the effective transmission method is proposed. By the simulation, the performance and effectiveness is validated.
