  • It is often assumed by many people that science is male-oriented subject area. It is due to the fact that many examples and models dealt in the science teaming are male, and also there are more male scientists and female. Because the content of many science books are male-centered, it reinforces interest and self-confident for boys, whereas, it discourages the inspiration to develop the identity of scientists as a woman. In the West, in order to solve these issues, the educators have attempted to identify various factors in the science achievement, job description, and others which may contribute in developing gender difference in science learning and attitude towards science. It is also further attempted to develop girl-friendly science learning materials to facilitate education of woman scientists and also encourage their participation in the areas of science and technology. In this study, various strategies for female science education have been explored and suggested by examining science learning programs for female students, analyzing research literatures on the gender difference in science education.

  • This paper investigates how family-friendly the working environments of Korean community welfare centers are and analyze work-life balance of married female social workers. We conducted a mix-method exploiting survey and interviews in community welfare centers in four provinces (Seoul, Kyonggi, Kangwon and Kyongsang). 82 participants were involved in the survey and 10 in the in-depth interview. According to our analysis, the take up rate of maternity leave was comparatively high while flexible working hours and parental leave were substantially low. Working atmosphere of the center, difficulties in hiring replacements and peer pressure were found to be related to the low take up rates. Also the working hours and concentration of work in certain periods negatively effected work-life balance satisfaction. Lastly, we found a high need for welfare service related to child care provided by community welfare centers where participants-female social workers- worked at.

  • The objective of this paper is to analyze the disparities in perceptions regarding gender-related matters among students at K University, determined by their gender, and to propose solutions within the university education system. The results of the study are as follows. First, many men believe that there is no structural discrimination against women and that men are discriminated against, whereas women show the opposite. Second, men and women show statistically significant differences in perception of women's level of effort, reasons for low income, and work ability after employment. Third, men show unfavorable attitudes towards feminism compared to women. Fourth, the reasons men show hostile attitudes toward the female quota system and feminism include the influence of the traditional gender role model imposed on men and the difference in men's and women's views on structural inequality. To reduce the perception gap between men and women, it is necessary to reconsider hegemonic masculinity, apply issue-centered education using accurate information, publicize issues by preparing a mistake-friendly space, and respond to the perception gap at the university level from the perspective of citizenship education.

  • Social enterprises are social mission-oriented entities, despite working entrepreneurial way. Mission orientation is recognized as a strong management tool that can motivate employees and remain there to accomplish it. This study investigated the role of social mission as well as job insecurity and job satisfaction as factors on retention of women in social enterprises. Binominal Logistic regression analysis is used. The result showed that 82.3% of respondents had intention to work at social enterprise. Also, social mission orientation of female workers had an effect of buffering the negative relationship between job insecurity and retention. These results suggest that social enterprises need to consider implicit working conditions as much as explicit work conditions for female-friendly jobs. Binominal Logistic regression analysis is used.

  • This study aims to develop hair cutter with zirconia($ZrO_2$) material whose machinability, corrosion resistance, wear resistance and bio-compatibility are excellent by comparing iron hair cutter. Ultra-thin zirconia cutter with the thickness of 0.253mm is manufactured through the optimization of design, molding, sintering, grinding and grinding process. With observation result of cutter specimen by use of scanning electron microscope(SEM), formability and process of cutting face are shown to be good. It is also evaluated with sufficient merchantability by cutting test results. The cutter process technology of thin zirconia can be utilized at the development of high value-added beauty appliances like razor, beauty-razor and eye brows-razor for woman by use of study result.

  • Even though Korea has long experienced single race/ethnic demographic composition, the recent rapid change of demographic diversity will have powerful impact on the HRM(human resource management) in the future. In this research we find the influence of the diversity friendly HRM to the human resource practices using the data of WPS(Workplace Panel Survey) of Korea Labor Institute. If the training for women is high, the density of the woman increased. The performance pay is introduced, then the density of the disabled person would be increased. The foreign workforce was also increased if the company used more selection methods. But the HRM practices such as talent management, yearly-based compensation systems, and appraisal program which has a tendency to reduce diversity have no significant influence to the financial performance. This findings imply that the management team should introduce the effective HRM systems to manage diverse human resources after considering the organizational culture and business environment. This research intends to find the diversity friendly HRM practices and hope to help the efforts of the management team to find effective management methods.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of healing environments of the wards in women's hospitals. A evaluation checklist of the healing environment was applied to seven women's hospitals that have constructed or remodeled since 2000. The findings indicate that the comfort was well considered in most spaces, while the privacy and the nature-friendliness were insufficient. The lacks of balconies, terraces, landscapes, and water spaces for the nature-friendliness were also problematic. Among the patients' room, corridor, and patients' lounge, the lounge was the most negative in terms of healing environments. In order to improve the patients' privacy, soundproofing materials and buffer zones in the lounge should be considered. The future study needs to develop advanced survey and interview methodologies in order to support the relevant results.
