There are a number of prior studies on the poverty experience of Korean women, but little is known about the poverty experience of Korean elderly women in the U.S. The purpose of this study is to examine the poverty experiences of Korean elderly women who immigrated to the U. S. Qualitative case study methods were used to achieve these research objectives. Three Korean elderly women living in Oakland of California who received Supplemental Security Income (SSI) from the U.S. federal government were included in the study. The data were collected by conducting a total of six meetings per participant, and the researcher read the consent form directly to the participants and obtained a hand-written signature. The analysis and interpretation began by repeating the interview transcript several times, and the repeated keywords were to be understood in the context, focusing on time, space, and relationships with other people. The contextual understanding of Korean elderly women's experiences in poverty was interpreted in three dimensions: extending poverty in their mother country, double torture as female immigrants, and limiting labor due to aging and diseases. Before moving to the U.S., they had a difficult livelihood by farming and one of them had to live in poverty due to the bereavement to her husband. But even after moving to the U.S., they have continued to live in poverty. As female immigrants with low education and no special skills, they were incorporated into the periphery of the labor market in the industrialized U.S. and were forced to make a living with low wages. Korean elderly women were unable to return to the labor market in the surrounding areas due to aging and diseases, and were continuing their impoverished lives relying on SSI. From the findings, we discussed the role of the Korean immigrants community as a way to improve the quality of life for Korean elderly women in the U.S.
When a human being grew older, followed by visually and perceptually impaired, and dementia, it jeopardizes safety and life unless supportive design is secured for a living environment. This supportive space is based on universal design concept which offers safe-oriented, and simple use by incorporating gender and physical/mental limitation. The study of purppose was to examine the appropriateness of barrier-free standard for seniors' living in apartment through IPA. Chi-square analysis found that satisfaction with BF space is lowered as aging is continued and for female group. Regression analysis indicated that sink was the prime predictor in satisfaction, and stair/elevator was the most important variable. IPA concluded that sink, bath, shower/locker and alert/egress were prime BF indexes to be improved among 14 elements, implying careful design in sanitation area for seniors.
A social network game (SNG) is the result of a combination of a life simulation game and a social networking service. These types of games are particularly popular among women. This phenomenon calls for research that focuses on the motivation behind playing SNGs, the factors that make SNGs absorbing and, particularly, the space decorating features of SNGs. The current study investigates people's experience with the space decorating features of SNGs and their motivation for playing these games. It observes the behaviors of SNG players, which were typed through Q methodology. Moreover, it specifically analyzes the motivation behind the playing of space-decorating SNGs. The study concludes that most of players were more absorbed in the space-decorating features of these games than they were in their social networking features. This also affects a player's continued playing of these games. This study proves that this phenomenon is related to players' desires for self-representation.
The purposes of this study are to present the criteria for a sensibility rating scale for measuring the general women's perception of museums' spatial environment, through an empirical analysis; and to clarify the characteristics of the presented rating scale in terms of each rating element and factor. For this study, a survey was conducted during August 19 - September 16, 2010, and a total of 342 museum visitors participated in the survey. A sensibility rating scale used for the survey consisted of a total of 32 adjectives selected from a literature review of previous studies. To specify the dimensions of semantic space using the semantic adjectives, words with opposite meanings were analyzed with the semantic differential technique developed by Osgood et al. Using SPSS, a reliability analysis, factor analysis were conducted on the data obtained from the survey. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: According to the women's perception of museums' spatial environment, six factors were found from the 25 semantic ratings of the Museum. The summarized criteria were: 'aesthetic', 'pleasant', 'valuable', 'function', 'affinity', and 'material.' The derived criteria were verified through an empirical test using emotional adjectives. In the coming years, the results of this study will serve as valuable data for constructing a sensibility rating scale for evaluating spatial environments of museums.
To find out customers' consciousness by gender on satisfaction factors and preference in flower design of venues for the celebration of baby's first birthday, the survey was performed for 650 of adult male and female. This study investigates the interaction mechanisms and processes between cyber space and real space. In particular, we analyze the relationships between changes on the economic landscape of the Bookchon region and the information supply and demand for this area on the Internet Blogs. In order to obtain the behavioral data about how people get information for Bookchon area and the reaction afterward, we perform questionnaire survey. The results of analysis reveal that there are significant connection between real space and cyber space, Internet Blog in particular. Internet Blog is the major media obtaining information about Bookchon area for major portion of people. Most people visit Bookchon after searching informations about it via Internet Blog. In particular, young generations who possess better capability to treat social media. At the same time, female, student, and office workers show these attitudes very strongly. We introduce a conceptual model for the interaction processes between cyber space and real space based on the survey data analysis, and propose a simple theoretical model for the dynamics of the total number of visitors about specific place with the experience of cyber space visit.

Research was done by studying plans for elements of emotional interior design while site investigation was done to find out the status of women's clinic lobby. Six women's clinic in Ulsan were chosen as subjects while survey was done based on the studied emotional plan elements. The data evaluation was classified by the installed properties and substituted with image scale using emotional mensuration. The outcome is as follows; First, elements of emotional interior design was composed of elements making up the space's comfort and aesthetic appreciation, and elements stimulating human's five senses leading to psychological treatment. Therefore, the plan for interior design should merge the design elements that stimulate senses and social elements into one unified concept. Second, the composited elements within the plan should strive to stimulate sights by contracts and changes and add symbolic or meaningful elements based on the principles of design. In so doing, the plan should incorporate an aesthetic orderliness and a coherent image. Third, the interior of women's clinics should not only have psychological comfort but also liveliness and ease that suits 20-30 old women. To conclude, Color, form, finishing materials and texture should be selected with a unified style in mind and the plan itself should strive to generate playfulness though harmonious coordination.
Recently, the Korean medical system changed with diversification & specialization and the field of medical service is also specialized in these days. And healing environment is proposed as a general concept in the hospital architecture. There is a trend that a establishment of women's hospital is increasing as specialized type. In difference from general hospital, they are providing specialized and integrated services in response to the women's disease and demand. Particularly, Outpatient department space in women's hospital has been changed in terms of area, shape and program. However, there used to be not enough research efforts of responding these changes. This study includes the Outpatient department of s women's hospital in the form of small and medium sized building over a certain level in Korea. And the methods of the study adopted the theoric examination based concept and features of women's hospital, the abstraction of distinctions in the Outpatient department through the analysis of the drawing, and the analysis of distinctions in the Outpatient department of women's hospital with the structural space classified and the analysis of space relation. Therefore, the purpose of this is to study investigates and analyzes the spatial characteristics of the Outpatient department space in women's hospital through a analysis of case study. To conclude, the space composition can be classified into the entry space, the clinic space for patients, the support space of patients' check-up, the reception and waiting space, the rest and convenience space, and the link space in the Outpatient department of women's hospital. The level space can account for the waiting space type, the clinic office type, the type based on the relation between the waiting room and the clinic office with its features. As a result, the results will be applied for the planning & design for the future women's hospital.
