Naupia Development of Nitocra spinipes Boeck, 1865 (Copepoda, Harpacticoida, Ameiridae) Reared in the Laboratory (요각류, Nitocra spinipes Boeck, 1865의 노우플리우스 유생 발생)

  • The larvae of Nitocra spinipes Boeck, 1865 were reared at 2$0^{\circ}C$ and 33.3$\textperthousand$ in the laboratory. These species passed through six nauplii stages and the first copepodid appeared in 8-10 days. Nauplii of N. spinipes is distinguished by characteristics of the appendage setation and caudal setae. The number of segments of antennal and mandibular exopodites in harpacticoida is discussed within familial level.

  • 1. 서론 : 분석화학의 중요한 과제중 하나 고효율(high efficiency)과 고해상도(high resolution)를 가지고서 혼합물에서 분자나 입자의 분리능을 개선하는 것과 낮은 수준의 농도에서 이런 분획들(fractions)을 정량화 하는 것이다. 현재의 추세는 분리하고자 하는 분자의 상한선을 증가시키는 것이 순수과학과 산업에서 중요하게 되었다. 이런 분리 기술의 응용은 거대분자(macromolecules)와 입자들(particles)인 cell fragments, plasmides, chromosomes, liposomes, synthetic polymers 등에 적용되고 있는데, 고전적인 분석방법으로는 한외여과, 원심분리, 크기배제 크로마토그래피 등이 있지만 시간이 걸리고 해상도와 효율에 제한이 있다.

A Study on Characterization of THMs Formation in Tap Water in Daegu (대구수돗물의 THMs 생성특성)

  • The occurrence of THMs, the characteristics of THMs formation and removal of THMs were investigated. The treatment train of M plant consists of prechlorination, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, ozonation, activated carbon and postchlorination. The study of THM formation indicated that about 92% of the THMs were formed in the flocculation/sedimentation/filtration process which affected by prechlorination. The formation of THMs was highly correlated to $KMnO_4$ consumption and water temperature in raw water. The regression model had showed 0.72~0.80 of determination coefficient so it could be used to predict the amount of THMs formation in finished water. Compared to the prechlorination process, the THMs formation was reduced in interchlorination process. With the addition of PAC, fewer THMs were formed in PAC-chlorination process than in chlorination-PAC process. Our results showed that air stripping could be used to remove the existing THMs.

  • Vie investigated the clarification effects of foxtail millet wine, a traditional wine in Cheju island, by centrifugation, protease treatment and ultrafiltration(UF). It was difficult to remove completely cloudy substances in foxtail millet wine only by centrifugation. With protease concentration of $5{\times}10^{-4}%(w/v)\;at\;35^{\circ}C$, for 2 hrs, foxtail millet wine was clarified effectively. Papain and bromelain appeared similar effects to the clarification of wine, but ficin was inferior to those. Ultrafiltration with pore size $100K\;and\;0.22{\mu}m$ membranes had appeared better clarification effects than the best result of enzyme treatment, and then was considered as a simple and economic method.

Removal of Ammonia in Water using Acid-impregnated Activated Carbon and Dynamic Membrane System (산 첨착활성탄과 동적막 공정을 이용한 수중 암모니아 제거)

  • In this study, activated carbon in a powder form was used to remove dissolved ammonia which causes a fouling smell in water. Since the adsorption capacity of common powder activated carbon is not high enough, we prepared powder activated carbon deposited on an acid solution to enhance the adsorption capacity. The acid-impregnated activated carbon was applied on the surface of porous fibril support ($10{\sim}50{\mu}m$) by which adsorption and separation processes take place simultaneously by varying effective pressure. As the result, the ammonia removal efficiency is above 60% in the mixing process which is 10~15% higher than general powder activated carbon. From the result of an experiment on the pure permeable test of a dynamic membrane, its transmittance is 400~700 LMH (liter per hour), indicating that the prepared membrane works as a microfiltration membrane. Therefore, it is expected that the membrane prepared in this way would improve the efficiency of water treatment than conventional membranes.

A Study on the Regeneration of SCR Catalyst Deactivated by Unburned Carbon Deposition (탄소침적으로 피독된 탈질 촉매의 재생에 관한 연구)

  • A bag filter system was partially burnt down during a trial run of waste wood incineration boiler. This brought about unburned hydrocarbon which caused a rapid deactivation of low temperature SCR catalyst set up in two stage after the bag filter. The deactivated catalyst was investigated in order to trace the origin by several characterization methods such as XRD, EDX, BET, TGA, SEM. The deactivated catalyst was regenerated by different methods such as acid washing, water washing in ultrasonication, and calcination treatment under air condition. It is found the calcination treatment under air condition at $450^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours to be the best regeneration method. The catalytic activity was measured in the form of 2 cm ${\times}$ 2 cm ${\times}$ 10 cm (catalyst weight 10 g) honeycomb type. A deNOx efficiency of the regenerated catalyst showed 100% at $180^{\circ}C$ which is the same level of fresh one.

Evaluation of Removal Efficiencies of Micropollutants in Wastewater Treatment Plants (산업폐수처리장에서의 미량유해물질 제거율 평가)

  • 66 micropollutants analyses in 9 wastewater treatment plants(WWTPs) along Nak-dong river were implemented to identify the concentrations and removal efficiencies before and after treatment processes. As a result of study, the concentration levels discharged from WWTP effluents to water system were below the water quality criteria and the levels of other studies. The removal efficiencies were 84.6%(DAF/CCR) and 81.6%(AC) for 1,4-dioxane. Phenol, Clphs and PAHs were removed 94.6%, 66.4% and 80.6% respectively by the activated sludge(AS) process. The removal efficiencies of Clbzs were 45.3% for the activated sludge(AS) process and 60.6% for the activated carbon(AC) process. However, other processes besides AS and AC, the removal efficiencies of Clbzs were very low(<20%). The sand filtration(SF) process that could remove particle matters showed the best efficiency for PCDDs / Fs removal$(\geq99%)$. However, in case of relatively low PCDDs/Fs concentration level in influent, the removal efficiency was not so high$(\leq50%)$.

Effects of Dissolved Oxygen and Depth on the Survival and Filtering Rate and Pseudofeces Production of a Filter-feeding Bivalve (Unio douglasiae) in the Cyanobacterial Bloom (남조류 대발생 환경에서 수심과 용존산소 변화에 따른 담수산 이매패(말조개)의 생존율, 여과율 및 배설물 생산)

  • We performed the experiment to evaluate the effect of different DO concentrations (0.5, 4.5 and 9.0 $mgO_2L^{-1}$) and water depths (20, 50 and 80 cm) on the filtering rate, mortality, and pseudifeces production of Unio douglasiae against the cyanobacterial bloom (mainly Microcystis aeruginosa). A solitary-living bivalve U. douglasiae was collected in the upstream region of the North Han River (Korea). The harvested mussels were carefully transferred to the laboratory artificial management system, which was controlled temperature $(18{\pm}2^{\circ}C)$, flow rate (10L $h^{-1}$), food $(Chlorella^{TM})$, sediment (pebble and clay), light intensity (ca. $20{\mu}mol$ photons), and photocycle (12 L : 12 D). In the field observation, the mussel mortality was significantly correlated with water temperature, pH and DO concentration (P<0.05). The mortality was decreased with water depth; 65, 90, 80% of mortality at 20, 50, 80 cm water-depth, respectively. Filtering rate (FR) showed the highest value at 50 cm water depth, and thereby the concentration of chlorophyll-${\alpha}$ decreased continuously by 94% of the control at the end of the experiment. In contrast, FR decreased by 34% of the initial concentration at 20 cm water depth. Over the given water-depth range, the mussel FR ranged from $0.15{\sim}0.20L\;gAFDW^{-1}hr^{-1}$ during the 18hrs of experiment, and thereafter, they appeared to be approximately 0.11, 0.26 and 0.30 L $gAFDW^{-1}hr^{-1}$ at 20, 50 and 80cm water depth, respectively. FR was highest with the value of 0.46L $gAFDW^{-1}hr^{-1}\;at\;0.5mgO_2 L^{-1}$ at the early stage of the experiment, while it increased with DO concentration. Maximum pseudofaeces production was 11.2 mg $gAFDW^{-1}hr^{-1}\;at\;9.0mgO_2L^{-1}$. Our results conclude that U. douglasiae has a potential to enhance water quality in eutrophic lake by removing dominant cyanobacteria, but their effects vary with environmental parameters and the water depth at which they are located.

  • 최근 국내 소비자들의 안전한 음식과 환경문제에 대한 관심이 높아지면서 재배작물과 경작지 토양의 물리 화학적 특성 등에 맞추어 적정 시비 및 재배관리를 적용하는 정밀농업이 시도되고 있다. 정밀농업은 농약 및 비료 등의 양을 적절하게 사용하여 생산 비용을 절감할 수 있으며, 과다사용을 막아 환경오염을 줄일 수 있다. 현재 토양의 수분, EC, pH등과 같은 항목은 신속하고 간단하게 분석이 가능하지만 토양의 필수 원소인 N, P, K 성분을 분석하는 제품은 상용화 되지 않았거나 가격이 비싸 일반 농가에서는 사용이 어렵다. 특히, 토양의 인을 현장에서 분석하기 위한 연구가 많이 수행되고 있으나 실제로 현장에서 사용되는 경우 또한 없는 상황이다. 일반적으로 토양에 포함되어 있는 인을 측정하기 위해서 많은 실험실에서는 이화학적 분석법을 사용하고 있다. 하지만 이 분석법은 오랜 시간과 전문적인 인력이 필요하며 주변 환경변화에 민감하여 실시간으로 분석하기에는 어렵다고 한다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 현장에서 실시간으로 토양의 인을 분석하기 위해 반자동 분석시스템을 제작하고 이를 검증하고자 하였다. 이전 연구에서 현장 토양을 이용한 신속측정법의 가능성($R^2>0.7$)을 확인하여 이 분석법을 바탕으로 반자동 분석시스템을 제작하였고 표준결과 값의 약 70% 이상의 수준을 목표로 하였다. 진주 지역의 현장 토양 20개 샘플과 반자동 침출 장치, 여과 장치, 발색 장치 그리고 통합 반자동 시스템을 이용하여 분석한 후 표준 분석 결과와 비교하였을 때 $R^2$ 값이 각각 0.985, 0.817, 0.893, 0.837로 약 70% 이상의 수준을 달성하였다. 추후, 반자동 토양 인 신속측정시스템을 완전 자동화 시스템으로 개발하고 주행 장치를 부착시켜 현장에서 실시간으로 원하는 위치의 인을 측정 할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

Performance of a Hellow Fiber Membrane Diffuser for the Biological Removal of Gaseous BTX (Diffuer 형태의 중공사막 생물반응기를 이용한 기체상 BTX 제거)

  • In this study, a novel bioreactor system using a diffuser type hollow fiber membranes (hollow fiber membrane diffuser, HFMD) was applied to investigate the feasibility and biodegradation capacity for the treatment of a gaseous mixture consisting of benzene, toluene and p-xylene(BTX). First, A mixed culture pre-acclimated to toluene effectively biodegraded the BTX mixture at an overall removal efficiency of approximately 70% for a 20-day operational period. It was found that the biodegradation of toluene was slightly inhibited because of the presence of benzene and p-xylene. Second, the elimination capacity (EC) of total BTX increased up to 360 $g/m^3/hr$, which was substantially higher than maximum ECs for BTEX reported in the biofiltration literature. Consequently, the hollow fiber membrane diffuser was considered as an alternative method over other conventional VOC-treating technologies such as biofilters.
