In this paper. we propose a storage system for XML documents using relational databases. Additional processing is required to store XML documents in the relational databases due to the discrepancy between XML structures and relational schema. This study aims to store XML documents with DTD in the relational databases. We propose the association inlining that exploits shred inlining and hybrid inlining and avoids relation fragments and excessive joins. Experiments show some improvements in the performance with the proposed method. The information of the storage structures is extracted from the simplified DTD. Existing map classes are extended in order to map various structures of XML to relational schema. Map classes are defined for various structures such as elements with multiple values, elements with multiple super elements, and elements with recursive structures through analyzing XML documents. Map files that are XML structures and used in generating SQL statements are created by using the extracted information of storage structures and map classes.
As one of typical techniques for acquiring bio-information, microarray has contributed greatly to development of bioinformatics. Although it is established as a core technology in bioinformatics, it has difficulty in sharing and storing data because data from experiments has huge and complex type. In this paper, we propose a new method which uses the feature that microarray data format in MAGE-ML, a standard format for exchanging data, has frequent structurally similar patterns. This method constructs compact database by simplifying MAGE-ML schema. In this method, Inlining techniques and newly proposed classification techniques using structural similarity of elements are used. The structure of database becomes simpler and number of table-joins is reduced, performance is enhanced using this method.

This experimental study suggests an element-based XML document retrieval method that reveals highly relevant elements. The models investigated here for comparison are divergence and smoothing method, and hierarchical language model. In conclusion, the hierarchical language model proved to be most effective in element-based XML document retrieval with regard to the improved exhaustivity and harmed specificity.
Structure information contained in a structured document supports various access paths to document. In order to use structure information contained in a structured document, it is required to construct an index structural on document structures. Content indexing and structure indexing per document require high memory overhead. Therefore, processing of pure structure queries based on document structure like relationship between elements or element orders, low memory overhead for indexing are required. This paper suggests the GDIT(Global Document Instance Tree) data structure and indexing scheme about structure of document which supports low memory overhead for indexing and powerful types of user queries. The structure indexing scheme only index the lowest level element of document and does not effect number of document having retrieval element. Based on the index structure, we propose an query processing algorithm about pure structure, proof the indexing schemes keeps up indexing efficient in terms of space. The proposed index structure bases GDR concept and uses index technique based on GDIT.

As XML documents have much richer information than plain texts, we can perform very elaborated, fine-grained search which was difficult in past years. However, as the cost of finer grained element level search is very high, the processing overhead has become a new challenge. We propose an inverted index structure called PIX, which reduces the number of elements processed by partitioning elements according to their match potentiality. We choose a base level and partition elements according to whether they have possibility of having a common ancestor higher than the level. We also propose partition merging technique by which we can get same results as unpartitioned case. Our experimental results show that the index partitioning strategy can reduce processing time considerably.
