Machine translation (MT) quality assessment is an outstanding problem. In the present situation in which the quality of machine-translated products are far from the user\\`s satisfaction objective evaluation of MT system is a prerequisite to building mutual trust between the users and the vendors stimulating constructive competition among the developers and finally leading to improve the quality of MT systems. Especially there emerges a need for an intensive study on how to evaluate the quality of MT systems from both linguistic and data processing aspects and to secure a steady improvement of the translation quality. With due regard to such points we in this paper present a linguistic evaluation of English-to-Korean machine translation based on a test suite composed of 3.373 sentences that were classified into their linguistic phenomena and complexity levels and report the experimental results made from several commercial MT systems.

본 논문에서는 뇌손상으로 인하여 난독증을 보이는 환자를 대상으로 시각적 단어 재인과정에 대한 평가와 기능적 자기공명영상기법을 통한 언어처리과정의 대뇌활성 양상을 살펴봄으로써 난독증의 특성을 알아보고자 한다. 인지신경심리학적 언어행동평가를 통해 환자 JYM는 자소-음소 변환(grapheme-phoneme conversion)경로와 직접 경로(direct route) 모두가 손상된 심층성 난독증(deep dyslexia)으로 보이며. 기능적 자기공명영상촬영 결과 언어처리과정에서 특정한 언어관련영역보다 등외측전전두영역과 시각피질의 활성이 증가되는 양상을 나타냈다.

The purpose of this study is to collect the psychological responses that occur while watching TV home shopping ads in verbal form, and explore the possibility of measuring the effectiveness of TV home shopping ads using linguistic analysis. The psychological responses during watching positive and negative ads of participants(40 housewives and female college students) were collected in a linguistic form using a think aloud and self-report measurement. It was analyzed by KLIWC, a Korean language analysis program. As a result of the analysis, there was a difference in psychosocial variables as well as linguistic variables between positive and negative evaluation ads. Also, various variables of KLIWC were correlated with the variables of advertising effectiveness (purchase stimulus, ad attitude, product attitude, purchase intention) and advertising response variables. This suggests the possibility of constructing a psychological response profile and measurement of advertising effectiveness using language analysis.

구개인두부전증(velopharyngeal insufficiency, VPI)에 의한 발음이상을 평가하는 방법에는 여러 가지 방법이 개발되어 왔으나 비강측정기(nasometry)에 의한 비성수치(naslance score)의 측정과 spectrography에 의한 음향분석이 최근 널리 사용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 실험적으로 유발한 VPI군의 음향학적 결과와 비강측정기의 결과를 정상군과 비교함으로써 VPI환자의 보다 정확하고 객관적인 평가의 방법과 지표를 얻고자 하였다. (중략)

텍스트로부터 명사를 추출하기 위해서 다양한 기법이 이용될 수 있는데, 본 논문에서는 학습 데이터를 이용하여 생성한 규칙과 사전을 이용하는 단순한 모델을 통해 명사를 효과적으로 추출할 수 있는 기법에 대하여 기술한다. 사용한 모델은 기본적으로 명사, 어미, 술어 사전을 사용하고 있으며 명사 추정은 학습 데이터를 통해 생성한 규칙을 통해 이루어진다. 제안한 방법은 복잡한 언어학적 분석 없이 명사 추정이 가능하며, 복합명사 사전을 이용하지 않고 복합 명사를 추정할 수 있는 장점을 지니고 있다. 또한, 명사추정의 주 요소인 규칙이나 사전 등록어의 추가, 갱신 등이 용이하며, 필요한 경우에는 특정 분야의 텍스트 분석을 위한 새로운 사전의 추가가 가능하다. 제안한 방법을 이용해 "제1회 형태소 분석기 및 품사 태거 평가대회(MATEC '99')"의 명사 추출기 분야에 참가하였으며, 본 논문에서는 성능평가 결과를 제시하고 평가결과에 대한 분석을 기술하고 있다. 또한, 현재의 평가기준 중에서 적합하지 않은 부분을 규정하고 이를 기준으로 삼아 자체적으로 재평가한 평가결과를 제시하였다.

In this paper, we observe the differences between linguistic and computational aspect in the automatic processing of languages which are dominant representation method for information in the Internet. For efficient information retrieval, information extraction and machine translation from the massive documents, we investigate analysis units for morphology analysis, syntactic analysis and semantic analysis. and propose the syntactic longest analysis unit rather than morphological unit based on linguistics. Also, by evaluating with massive documents, we show that the proposed analysis units can be used for the constraint which can reduce the ambiguity occurring in the language processing.
