The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of red ginseng-derived non-saponin fraction (NSF) on inflammatory responses and monocyte-to-macrophage differentiation in RAW264.7 and THP-1. NSF effectively inhibited inflammatory responses by downregulating nitric oxide (NO) production and protein levels of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). NSF ($2000{\mu}g/mL$) decreased the levels of NO, iNOS, and COX-2 by 33, 83, and 64%, respectively. NSF inhibited the differentiation of monocyte-to-macrophage by decreasing cell adherence along with downregulation of the cluster of differentiation molecule $11{\beta}$ ($CD11{\beta}$) and CD36. In addition, pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha, interleukin 6, and monocyte chemoattractant protein 1 (MCP-1), were significantly reduced with NSF treatment. The NSF-mediated inhibition of inflammatory responses was due to the regulation of nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells ($NF-{\kappa}B$) and nuclear factor (erythroid-derived 2)-like 2 (Nrf2). NSF effectively suppressed the translocation of $NF-{\kappa}B$ into the nucleus, while nuclear Nrf2 and its target protein, heme oxygenase-1, levels were significantly increased.

The goal of this study was to examine the effects of male gender role on the adjustment of Korean men. In study 1 Korean Male gender Role Scale was developed. A 52-item scale was constructed based on the responses of 432 college-aged and middle-aged men to theoretically-derived preliminary items. Five factors were extracted: achievement orientation, the initiative, task orientation, responsibility for family and friendship with male friends. Study 2 examined the relationship between male gender role and several adjustment variables. Correlational analyses indicated that in the college men self-esteem and career identity were positively correlated with the initiative and friendship with male friends was positively correlated with life satisfaction. College men's depression level was negatively correlated with the initiative and task orientation. Among the middle-aged men, self-esteem was also positively correlated with the initiative and task orientation. But responsibility for family was positively correlated with depression and job dissatisfaction in the middle-aged men. In both groups satisfaction with male gender role was positively correlated with self-esteem and life satisfaction but negatively correlated with depression. Finally, limitations of this study and direction of future research were discussed.

Pharmacological characterization of GS 283, a tetrahydroisoquinoline derivative has been elucidated using rat thoracic aorta, guinea pig tenea coli and rabbit mesentery artery in vitro. GS 283 showed calcium antagonistic action in vascular smooth muscle, since high $K^+-induced$ contraction was concentration dependently inhibited. GS 283 also inhibited the contraction induced by ${\alpha}_1$ receptor activation. Vasodilating action of GS 283 was not modified by the propranolol, indicating that GS 283 has no ${\beta}$ receptor stimulatory action. Simultaneous measurement of intracellular calcium change and muscle tension indicated that the inhibitory effect of GS 283 was accompanied by the increase in tissue fluorescence. This increment was not due to fura 2 fluorescence but to endogenous pyridine nucleotide, suggesting that GS 283 has an effect to inhibit mitochondrial function. GS 283 had an inhibitory action on cyclic AMP and GMP-dependent phosphodiesterases from rat brain with Ki values of 2.5 and 6.7 mM. From these findings we concluded that GS 283 has multiple action such as the inhibition of cyclic nucleotide-dependent phosphodiesterases, blocking of calcium channel as well as inhibition of mitochondrial function which are responsible for vasodilatation.

The objective of this research was to evaluate the ability of water and 80% ethanol extracts from one hundred eight mulberry leaves (Morus alba L.) to influence the inhibitory activity of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) and xanthine oxidase (XOase). The total phenol contents were that water extracts of ten species (Kakjayongsan (Morus alba L.), Daejungsun (Morus alba L.) etc.) and 80% ethanol extracts of twenty three species (Waryoung (Morus alba L.), Hasusang (Morus alba L.) etc.) showed more than 15 mg/g. The inhibitory activity on angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) were that ten species (YamanakkadakKaskke (Morus alba L.), Mijiro (Morus alba L.) etc.) showed 100% inhibition rate both of water extracts and 80% ethanol extracts. The rest, water extracts of thirty four species (Cheongilppong (Morus alba L.) etc.) and 80% ethanol extracts of thirty four species (Wonjukojo (Morus alba L.) etc.) showed inhibitory activity (above 90%) on ACE. Also, to search of xanthine oxidase (XOase) inhibition were that water extracts of five species (Cheongsipjosaeng (Morus alba L.), Suwon 3 (Morus alba L.) etc.) and 80% ethanol extracts of Jeokmok (Morus alba L.) showed inhibitory activity (above 50%) on XOase. This result revealed, strong biological activity in spite of has a little total phenol contents. These water and 80% ethanol extracts from mulberry leaves (Morus alba L.) are expected good candidate for development into anti-hypertentive and anti-gout sources.

The effect of the nitrogen content of sawdust medium (1.2~1.8%) and the restriction stage temperature (2, 4, and 6℃) on the growth and storage characteristics of Flammulina velutipes (winter mushroom) were investigated. With increased nitrogen content, the growth days shortened and the yield of the fruiting body increased. The effect of restriction temperature on the growth of the fruiting body differed depending on the nitrogen content. No difference in restriction temperature was evident for T1 with a low nitrogen content of 1.28%. In medium with a nitrogen content ≥1.55%, the yield and length of the pileus and stipe increased as the restriction temperature decreased. The weight loss ratio according to the storage period did not change according to the nitrogen content in the medium. A low weight loss ratio of 1.50 to 1.93% was observed at a restriction temperature <4℃. When T3 with high nitrogen content in the medium was treated at a restriction temperature of 4℃, the fruiting body color values after 31 days of storage were 84.81 (L) and 6.3 (ΔE). This color change was minute compared to that after other treatments. The sensory characteristics score was 5.2 after 31 days of storage, and the quality remained acceptable for consumption.

최근 우리는 IMF 체제로 인한 극심한 경제적 어려움에 직면해 있는데, 외환 안정과 실업 억제 및 성공적인 구조조정이 사태해결에 필수적이며 이를 위해서는 오직 수출을 증대시켜 나가는 길밖에 없는 상황이다. 우리 수출은 산업의 기반이 허약해 외부 영에 너무 민감하게 변화되는 바 최근 '원'화는 큰 폭으로 절상되고 경쟁국인 일본, 대만 등이 대미 '달러'화에 큰 폭으로 절하되고 있어 우리의 수출 증대에 가장 큰 문제점으로 대두되고 있다. 더구나 전자산업은 우리나라 총수출의 30.4%를 차지하는 제1의 주종산업일 뿐 아니라 생산대 수출비중이 70%에 이르는 수출 주도형 산업인 관계로 그 영향을 분석, 대응해 나가기 위해서 주요 123개 전자업체(총수출의 87% 차지)들의 설문조사를 통해 본 보고서를 발표하였다.

1996년 저병원성조류인플루엔자(Lowpathogenic avian influenza:LPAI)가 국내에서 처음으로 발생된 지 10년이 지난 지금 백신접종이 실시될 것 같다. 아니면 이 글이 발표될 시점에는 이미 출시가 되었을 수도 있을 것이다. 국내방역이 잘 되었다면 이와 같은 백신접종이 필요 없었을 것 이라는 아쉬움을 간직하며 한편으로는 어차피 백신접종을 할 것이라면 좀 더 잘 알고 해야 하겠기에 저병원성 사독백신에 대하여 소개하고자 한다. 오늘 소개하고자 하는 자료는 LPAI 백신을 개발하는 과정 중 일부인 백신의 안전성과 효능평가에서 획득한 것으로 다소 학문적인 표현도 있으나 개발된 백신의 본질을 이해하기 위하여 그대로 표현하고자 한다. 참고로 본 사업은 농림기술관리센터의 연구비 지원과 (주)중앙백신연구소와의 산학협동으로 충북대 수의대에서 진행되었다. LPAI 백신도 다른 사독백신과 마찬가지로 야외바이러스를 사멸시켜 만든 것으로 효능을 평가하기 위해서는 1) 백신 접종 후에 야외감염으로부터 방어가 가능하도록 역가가 충분히 높아야하고 2) LPAI의 특징적인 임상증상을 충분히 감소시켜야 하며 3) 감염된 바이러스의 총배설강 배설을 최대한 억제시켜야 한다. 따라서 이러한 관점에서 본 원고를 작성하였음을 이해해주기 바란다.

직접 대역 확산 통신 방식에서 처리 이득에 비해 강한 협대역 간섭 신호가 존재 할 때 성능 향상을 위하여 다중 사용자 탐지 기술(MUD)을 사용하여 간섭 신호 제고를 위한 신호 검출을 하였으며, 적응 접속 채널 배열 응답과 다중 사용자 검출을 하기 위하여 BISP 알고리즘을 제안하였다. 또한 CDMA 채널에서 MAI와 ISI 검출에 BISP 알고리즘 신호 흐름 형태를 파악하여, 신호대 간섭 비율(SIR)과 신호대 잡음비율(SNR)에서 시간에 따른 비트율를 평가 하였다. 제안한 BISP 알고리즘은 방사 특성에 시간 지연 효율이 절반 이상 차이가 나지만 채널 특성 따라서 입력 신호를 조정 할 수 있다. 그리고 매치 필터를 통과하면서 각 채널간의 간섭을 억제하고, 사용자 검출을 용이하게 처리할 수 있다.

본 연구에서는 우리나라 266개 상장기업을 대상으로 기업다각화의 동기를 밝히고, 대리권문제와 기업다각화가 기업가치에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 기업다각화수준의 결정에 있어 대리권문제의 영향을 분석한 실증결과에 의하면, 첫째, 내부 지분율이 낮을수록 다각화가 많이 이루어지고, 내부지분율이 높을수록 다각화수준이 낮아지는 것으로 나타나, 우리나라 기업의 다각화 동기를 대리권문제 관점에서 찾을 수 있음을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 외부대주주지분율과 다각화수준간에는 유의적인 관계를 발견하지 못하여, 외부대주주들이 경영자를 감시 통제함으로써 대리권문제를 축소시키고, 기업의 다각화를 억제할 것이라는 가설은 기각되는 것으로 나타났다. 다각화가 기업가치에 미치는 영향에 대한 분석결과에서는, 첫째, 다각화가 기업가치의 감소를 유발시켜 다각화수준이 높을수록 기업가치가 낮을 것이라는 가설은 기각되는 것으로 나타났다. 오히려 우리나라 기업에 없어 다각화는 기업가치에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었다. 둘째, 관련다각화 기업과 비관련다각화 기업의 가치를 비교해본 결과 비관련다각화 기업의 가치가 관련다각화 기업의 가치보다 높은 것으로 나타났다.
