A Corpus Analysis to the Engineering Academic English (공학학술영어에 대한 코퍼스 분석)

  • 본 연구는 공과대학 학생들이 배우는 전공영어로서의 특수목적영어(ESP)에 대해 코퍼스 기반 접근법의 유용성을 논하고자 한다. 이에 본 연구에서는 공과대학에서 사용하는 전공텍스트를 코퍼스로 구축하여 컴퓨터에 기반한 분석에서 나온 결과들을 제시하면서 공학영어 코퍼스의 특성을 살펴보고 궁극적으로 영어매개수업을 듣는 공대학생들의 데이터 기반 학습에 일조하고자 한다. 본 연구에서 사용된 목표 코퍼스는 세부전공과 상관없이 공통적으로 적용되는 공학과목을 선정하여 구축되었고 비교대상인 참조 코퍼스는 British National Corpus를 사용하였다. 공학영어 코퍼스는 총 단어 180만개, 단어 유형 만 6천여개로 이루어졌고 코퍼스 분석도구인 AntConc 3.4.4를 이용하여 빈도 분석과 키워드 분석이 수행되었다. 고빈도수 어휘의 분석결과 목표 코퍼스와 참조 코퍼스에서 가장 빈번하게 나타나는 어휘군은 내용어(content words)보다는 기능어(function words) 형태가 많다는 점이 나타났고 내용어군만 분석결과 참조코퍼스에 비해 공학영어 코퍼스에 과학영역의 변이어가 많이 분포하고 있음이 드러났다. 또한 키워드 분석에서는 공학영어 코퍼스의 키워드 동사군이 전문적인 어휘(technical vocabulary)보다는 비전문적인 학술적 어휘(non-technical academic vocabulary)가 상대적으로 많이 분포되어 있음이 드러나 ESP교육을 실시함에 있어서 전공관련 전문영어와 함께 일반적인 학술 영어에 대한 인식을 고양해야 할 필요성이 대두된다.

Dimension of the Emotion Structure through the Analysis of Emotion related terms in Korean Language (정서관련 어휘 분석을 통한 내적 상태의 차원 연구)

  • 본 연구에서는 한국어의 정서관련 어휘분석을 통하여 내적체계의 차원을 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 연구1에서는 내적경험을 표현하는 데 자주 쓰이는 어휘들을 자유연상을 통해 100개를 선정하고 유사성과 빈도평가 자료를 다차원분석한 결과, 1차원(63%)은 불쾌, 2차원(25%)은 각성수준으로 해석될 수 있었고, 이는 기존의 차원모형의 주장과 거의 유사한 결과였다. 다른 이휘목록을 사용하였을 때의 결과와 비교하기 위해, 연구 2에서는 표정을 보고 정서를 추론하는 실험을 통해 자주 언급된 단어를 빈도순으로 22개 선정하였다. 이를 이용하여 같은 방법으로 다차원 분석한 결과 역시 같은 차원들이 얻어졌으나, 1차원의 비중이 훨씬 커서(89%)각성수준의 설명력은 (6%)상대적으로 작았다. 연구 3에서는 연구 1,2의 이휘목록이 전체 재적체계의 차원 공간에서 차지하는 상대적인 위치를 비교하기 위해, 두 어휘목록을 포함한 83개 내적체계의 단어를 차원평정시켜 분석하였고, 연구결과가 차원모형에서 갖는 시사점이 논의되었다.

Functional Lexical Bundles in Nuclear Science and Engineering Research Articles (원자력과학공학 학술 논문에 나타난 기능적 어휘다발 분석)

  • This study aims to functionally classify lexical bundles appearing in academic papers on nuclear science and engineering written in English and then analyze the lexical bundles' characteristics compared to those appearing in general academic papers. To this end, the texts of nuclear science and engineering papers were collected and produced as a corpus(c. 1 mil. tokens). Then they were statistically compared through Chi-square tests and standardized residuals with the corpus of general academic papers(c. 750,000 tokens). The results revealed that, compared to general academic papers, the bundles in the stance lexical bundle category were mainly used among the functional lexical bundle in nuclear science and engineering. The use of the lexical bundles lacked much variety. The same type of lexical bundles was 're-used' and 'recycled'. Based on these research results, educational implications for English for Academic Purposes and the further direction of follow-up research were discussed and suggested.

  • 동사의 다의성은 결합되는 어휘에 따른 의미확장으로 설명된다. 본고에서는 한국어 지각동사의 기본의미가 갖는 논항관계를 바탕으로 코퍼스를 이용하여 다른 어휘와의 연여관계를 관찰함으로써 공기하는 어휘를 체계화시키고 기본의미와 의미확장의 실제 사용빈도를 조사하는데 그 의의가 있다.

  • This paper proposes a computational model which can simulate peculiar language phenomena observed in human lexical decision task. The model is designed to mimic major language phenomena such as frequency effect, lexical status effect, word similarity, and semantic priming effect. The experimental results show that the propose model replicated the major language phenomena and performed similar performance with that of human in LDT.

  • This study analyzed the vocabularies presented in the 1st to 2nd grade elementary school mathematics field review textbook according to the 2022 revised curriculum using a 9th grade vocabulary system and improved them. The result of the analysis shows that the frequency of vocabulary that was not appropriate for the students' level was found to be 6.67% in the first semester of the first year and 12.17% in the second semester of the first year. For the first semester of the second year, it was 11.73%, and for the second semester of the second year, it was 14.19%. This shows that the frequency of vocabulary that may be difficult for students gradually increases. Based on the analysis results, vocabulary that had a high difficulty level but was not essential in the textbook was deleted, and essential vocabulary or vocabulary that was difficult for students was presented with pictures added or revised in more detail. In addition, words that can be modified with similar words with low lexical difficulty were replaced and presented. In this way, research on vocabulary difficulty can identify aspects of vocabulary used in textbooks and can help develop high-quality textbooks by appropriately modifying vocabulary for effective mathematics learning.

The Differences of Naming by Word Frequency, Length, and Animacy in Nonfluent Aphasic Patients (비유창성 실어증 환자의 단어빈도 및 길이, 생물성에 따른 이름대기 수행의 차이)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate effects of three conditions-words frequency, word length, and animacy-on the performance of naming in nonfluent aphasic patients. 15 nonfluent aphasic patients and 15 normal adults were participated in this study. The words consist only of concrete nouns and confrontational naming test was used. The test consisted of 40 questions and the condition of word were frequency(low-frequency/high-frequency), length(1 syllable/3 syllables) and animacy(animate/inanimate). The result of the study was as follows. First, naming was performed better with high-frequency words than with low-frequency words in both groups. Second, naming was performed better with 1 syllable words than with 3 syllable words in both groups. Third, naming performance depending on animacy did not show significant differences in both groups. These results indicate that compared to animacy of word, word frequency and length have bigger influence on the naming, and the difference by word frequency was more pronounced for nonfluent aphasic patients than for normal adults. The results of this study suggest that target word for the assessment and intervention of nonfluent aphasic patients, words frequency should be considered first in clinical setting.

The Influence of Age of Acquisition in Hangul Word Recognition (한글단어재인에서 습득연령의 영향)

  • The age of acquisition effect is the phenomenon in which the words acquired early in life are processed better than the words acquired later in life. Age of acquisition and word frequency are critical factors in lexical processing. In this study we examined the age of acquisition effects in Hangul word recognition. In Experiment 1, we examined the AoA effects in word naming and lexical decision tasks. The results showed that there was an interaction between task and age of acquisition. The AoA effects appeared only in the lexical decision task. In Experiment 2, we examined the relationship between age of acquisition and word frequency in the lexical decision task. The results showed that the two variables were significant. The early-acquired words were processed better than the words acquired later, and the words with high frequency were processed better than the words with low frequency. However, there was no interaction between the two variables. In Experiment 3, we examined how phonological changes in Hangul words influence the AoA effects. The results show that the AoA effects were similar whether phonological changes occur or not. Our results are discussed in terms of several theoretical hypotheses.

  • 편리한 블로그 사용과 블로그에서의 정보 탐색을 위해서는 내용에 기반한 분류가 필요하다. 대부분의 블로그 사이트에서는 내용 기반 분류를 제공하고 있으나, 블로거들은 자신이 작성한 블로그에 대한 수동 분류를 입력하지 않는 경우가 많다. 본 논문에서는 분류가 제공되는 블로그 사이트에서 각 분류별 문서를 수집하고, 어휘빈도와 문서빈도, 분류별 빈도를 활용하여 문서 내 어휘의 자질 가중치를 부여하고, 다양한 학습기를 이용하여 분류 모델을 생성한 뒤 블로그의 특성에 적합한 자질 추출 알고리즘과 분류 알고리즘을 찾아낸다. 실험에서는 본 논문에서 고안한 CTF-IECDF와 나이브 베이즈 멀티노미얼로 조합한 분류 모델이 75.40%의 분류 정확률을 보였다.

Effects of word frequency and semantic transparency on decomposition processes of compound nouns (사용빈도와 의미투명도가 복합명사의 분리처리에 미치는 효과)

  • This study examined effects of word frequency and semantic transparency on decomposition processes of compound nouns by semantic priming task and repetition priming task. In Experiment 1, it was investigated that decomposition process depended on word frequency of compound noun. Semantic priming effects were found In the compound noun's associate rendition consistently, and repetition priming effects were found in the whole rendition as well as in the part condition irrespective of word frequency and SOA. These results implied that compound noun was processed through decomposition process path and direct access path. In Experiment 2, Effects of semantic transparency on decomposition processes of compound nouns were examined. Semantic priming effects were found when compound nouns' associates were presented as primes irrespective of semantic transparency and SOA, and results were the same as experiment 1b in repetition priming task. Results of experiment 1 and 2 implies that compound nouns are interpreted by interactive activation processes of attributes activated by decomposition path and direct access path.
