The results are as follows : The mothers of Elementary school science gifted perception were found to have a connected giftedness with reading, science, making something, etc.. On the other hand, the mothers of middle school science gifted perception were found to have a connected giftedness with problem, solving problem, mathematics, etc. in words analysis. The mothers of Elementary school science gifted have a strong connection with category on creativity, motivation, etc.. On the other hand, the mothers of middle school science gifted were more inclined towards the category on learning, motivation, etc. in frame analysis. That is to say, the mothers of science gifted are perceptive about giftedness respect to some elements as the "Scale for Rating the Behavioral Characteristics of Superior Students-R" on the giftedness. Therefore, a correct understanding about giftedness in respect to the mothers of science gifted is required and parent education is needed for appropriate science gifted education.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between parenting behaviors and parental insights by examining the effects of parental insights in addition to the main variables found to explain parenting behaviors through previous studies. In addition to the parental insight, this study examined the influence of past childhood experiences(perceived parenting behavior, family of origin' health) and parenting experience (marital satisfaction, parental role satisfaction) in current life. As a result of hierarchical regression analysis of 202 mothers of middle school students, all of the input variables were found to explain the parenting behavior significantly. In particular, parental insight was proved to have significant explanatory power on affection, rejection, regulation, and independence-oriented behavior among the sub-factors of parenting behavior except overprotective. Finally, the implications of this study and future research directions were discussed.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the patterns of coping with marital conflict and child-rearing stress among mothers of young children. The participants were 166 mothers of children who were between 3 years and 7 years of age, living in the North Kyongsang Province. Paired t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe' test, Pearson's correlation and partial correlation analyses were conducted for this study. The results of this study were as follows. (1) In those situations where the participants experienced marital conflict and child-rearing stress, they were more likely to use an avoidance coping strategy than an approach coping strategy. (2) Among the mothers who were experiencing marital conflict or child-rearing stress, the group that suffered a higher level of stress was more likely to employ an avoidance coping strategy. However, there were no differences in the approach coping behavior by the level of stress. (3) When the level of marital conflict and child-rearing stress were controlled, approach coping behavior with marital conflict was still moderately correlated with approach coping behavior with child-rearing stress.
