  • The number of deaths from child traffic accidents in Korea is currently higher than the average figure of OECD members, and attention needs to be paid to reduce the school zone accident rate. According to the TAAS statistics of the Traffic Accident Analysis System, the number of deaths from traffic accidents in children (under 12 years of age) in Korea has been steadily decreasing recently, but the number of accidents and injuries has been continuously increasing and decreasing. With the number of accidents and injuries of children in Korea continuing to increase and decrease, the number of traffic accidents, deaths, and injuries of children in the school zone (under 12 years of age) has also been on the rise since 2019. Therefore, we were different from the preceding study (Study on Improvement through School Zone Accident Risk Survey, Study on Improvement of Children's Traffic Safety Facilities through Simulation Program). In order to prevent traffic accidents among school zones, which have the highest accident rate among children, a survey was conducted on traffic safety facilities and safety awareness of drivers. After that, we will analyze the problems and present measures for improving traffic safety in the school zone and improving drivers' safety awareness.

  • The aim of this analysis was to investigate the relationship between the level of safety behavior and the level of oral health behavior among Korean children. Data used in this analysis were from the 2005 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES). A representative sample of 4,292 children aged from three to eleven years who completed both health interview and health behavior survey. Simple and multiple logistic regression analyses were conducted. All analyses were weighted and SAS 9.1 survey data analysis procedures were used to estimate standard errors accounting for the complex sampling design of the KNHANES. More than seventy percent of children did not keep general safety behaviors except seat on back seat in a car. About seventy five percent of children had experience of preventive oral care during last one year, but about fifty six percent of children brush their teeth twice a day. Socioeconomic status and health behaviors were significantly related in three to six old age group only (p<.05). Generally significant relationship was not found between general safety and oral health behaviors. Among Korean children, general safety and oral health behaviors might be not related each other. Education for general safety behaviors should be underlined for all children. Especially preschool-children with low socioeconomic status need to be educated for healthy behaviors.

  • In order to prevent traffic accidents for children who are vulnerable to traffic around elementary schools, a school zone in the children's protection zone is designated, and parking and stopping are prohibited in this area as the vehicle speed is less than 30km/h. However, Korea has a disgrace that the death rate of children from traffic accidents is the No. 1 among OECD countries. Against this backdrop, this study aims to contribute to preventing traffic accidents and raising awareness of driver safety by establishing an illegal parking and stopping system in the child protection zone due to various road conditions in the child protection zone. As a research method, a plan to build a parking and stopping prevention system was presented based on major preceding studies and literature investigation and analysis. Through the construction plan, effects such as preventing traffic accidents, inducing smart drivers to drive safely, strengthening pedestrian safety awareness, and inducing driver's awareness of safety can be expected.

  • Recently, development in vehicle safety could increase interest in children's safety in vehicle collisions. But the research of children safety in vehicle collisions is not being conducted as many as that of adult's. Especially the study for the vehicle crash was not much. This study focused on the comparison of child safety between test protocols to evaluate children's safety in crash test. Injuries of Q6 and Q10 dummy were evaluated using FFRB (Full frontal rigid barrier) test and 40% ODB (Offset deformable barrier) test with one model vehicle. Even though the limit number of test, the tendency of injury criteria of Q6 and Q10 dummy between the test protocols was not conformed but injury criteria of Q6 and Q10 were not same between FFRB and 40% ODB.

  • The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate how three-dimensional gesture recognition technology, in children's traffic safety programs, can be an effective solution for instructing children in the safest ways to interact with traffic. In terms of traffic accidents, walking unaccompanied is the most dangerous traffic related activity for children. By using a three-dimensional serous game training program that implements gesture recognition, more accurate real life scenarios can be implemented in existing children's traffic training programs. The implementation of this technology will increase the possibility of changing the habits and attitudes of children, which in turn will lower the amount of walking related traffic accidents in children.
