Gifted Middle School Students' Genetic Decomposition of Congruent Transformation in Dynamic Geometry Environments (역동적 기하 환경에서 중등 영재학생들의 합동변환 활동에 대한 발생적 분해)

  • In the present study, we propose four participating $8^{th}$ grade students' genetic decomposition of congruent transformation and investigate the role of their dragging activities while understanding the concept of congruent transformation in GSP(Geometer's Sketchpad). The students began to use two major schema, 'single-point movement' and 'identification of transformation' simultaneously in their transformation activities, but they were inclined to rely on the single-point movement schema when dealing with relatively difficult tasks. Through dragging activities, they could expand the domain and range of transformation to every point on a plane, not confined to relevant geometric figures. Dragging activities also helped the students recognize the role of a vector, a center of rotation, and an axis of symmetry.

  • As the usage of computer and internet is growing, ICT-based teaching is required in education. So far almost web-based coursewares are learner-based individual teaching. Current learning theories and learning model in WBI are too focusing on courseware or too general to apply in education directly. In this view, learning model with subject-specific search engine might be a solution. In this thesis, we developed systematic concept learning model, promoting traditional concept learning to suitable model in education field and also, we developed CEhunt(Computer Education Hunter), that is computer education search engine providing the teaching materials and supporting the design of teaching and effective concept learning environment to learners. Also, we verified that this model could have a positive effect in systematic concept forming process of learners for subject concerned.

Students' Understanding of the Derivative - Literature Review of English and Korean Publications - (학생들의 미분에 대한 이해에 관한 문헌 연구)

  • With a gradual increase in research on teaching and learning calculus, there have been various studies about students' thinking about the derivative. This paper reviews the results of the existing empirical studies published in Korean and English. These studies mainly have shown that how students think about the derivative is related to their understanding of the related concepts and the representations of the derivative. There are also recent studies that emphasize the importance of how students learn the derivative including different applications of the derivative in different disciplines. However, the current literature rarely addressed how students think about the derivative in terms of the language differences, e.g., in Korean and English. The different terms for the derivative at a point and the derivative of a function, which shows the relation between concepts, may be closely related to students' thinking of the derivative as a function. Future study on this topic may expand our understanding on the role language-specific terms play in students' learning of mathematical concepts.

  • The design process of a relational database system consists of requirement analysis, conceptual design using ER diagram, logical design, and physical design. In logical design process, the conceptual schema is transformed to relational schema, and relational schema is normalized. This traditional design process is hard to applied in real database design process, since there is an ambiguity in conceptual design process. In this paper, we suggest a new design process, which provides more structural design steps by removing the conceptual design process. In new approach, we produce the data flow diagram by the structural methodology. From the attributes in the data store of data flow diagram, we construct relational table schema, and we normalize relational schema. Finally we produced table relationship diagram in order to figure out relationships between tables.

A Cross-National Study of Calculus Students' Understanding of the Funciton Concept (함수 개념의 이해에 대한 비교 연구)

  • This Paper reports results of investigating the relationship between students' perfoonance and mathematics imtructiooal system in understanding of the function concept. A written examination measuring calcullli students' understanding of the fimction concept was administered to two groups of students whose educatiooal oockground were different. One group consists of students who completed a pre-calculus course in Korea and the other group completed the same course in the United States. This study investigates how students in two groups acquire an understanding of major aspects of the function concept and provided interesting insights regarding the different background and belief related to their performance. Follow-up interviews were conducted to identify possible explanations for the different performance of the two groups in understanding the function concepts. Results indicate that the differences came from the educational environment and individual belief.

ERX : A Generation Tool of XML Schema based on Entity-Relationship Model (ERX : 개체 관계 모델로부터 XML 스키마 생성 도구)

  • In these days, Entity-Relationship Model is the most popular modeling tool for designing databases, and XML is a de facto standard language for representing and exchanging data. But, because of many commercial products supporting Entity-Relationship Model use their's own representation formats, and thus it gives rise to difficulties the inter-operability between these products. In this paper, we propose an ERX, a generation tool of XML Schema from Entity-Relationship Model. ERX receives an Entity-Relationship Diagram as an input, transforms it based on transformation rules, and generates a XML Schema Definition as an output. Transformation rules contain entity set, relationship set, mapping cardinalities, and generalization.

  • `Information measure model' and 'Information benefit model' for road plan are developed. In result of application to actual road project, 'Information measure model' showed same result with actual road plan, it can express qualitative element by 'Information' like safety, public discontent, etc. and 'Information benefit model' can evaluate present plan in the side of provider's and demader's 'benefit'.

주파수의 개념과 이용계획

  • 최근, 우리나라에서도 전파에 대한 각종 규제의 완화와 경제의 발전에 따라 전파를 사용하는 사례가 늘어나고 있다. 일반가정에서 사용하는 코드없는 전화기를 비롯하여 젊은 층을 중심으로 퍼져나가고 있는 무선호출기와 일반층까지 파고들고 있는 휴대전화 보급이 그예가 될 수 있겠다. 어디 그뿐인가? 우리주변에서 늘 함께하는 라디오와 텔레비젼은 이미 일상생활에서 없어서는 안될 가정용 전기용품중의 하나이지만 이것이야말로 사실 전파를 사용하는 기기의 대표적인 케이스로 보아야 한다. 그렇지만 역시 전파 또는 주파수가 일반인들의 관심을 끌기 시작한 것은 이동통신이 선풍적인 인기를 끌면서 이뤄낸 경제적 부각가치 때문일것이다. 약간의 전파를 이용하여 이동통신사업자들이 누리는 경제적 향유(?)는 대단하다. 실례로 불과 25kHz폭(FM라디오 1개채널의 약 1/8,텔레비젼의 약1/24에 해당)을 가진 1개의 주파수를 무선호출에 이용할 경우 매출액은 연간 1억원에 이른다. 따라서 경제적 가치로서 인식될 수 밖에 없는 것이 어쩌면 단연한 일인지도 모른다. 한편, 경제적인 가치는 인정하면서도 주파수에 대해 일반인이 이해하기란 여간 어려운 일이 아니다. 그 원인으로서 첫째는 눈에 보이지 않기 때문인데 보이지 않는 실체를 인정하고 이해하는 것처럼 어려운 일도 없을 것이다. 둘째는 주파수 스펙트럼(전파를 주파수에 따라 도표로 나열한것)상의 주파수마다 공간을 전파해 나가는 성질이 다르고 또한 이용분야도 다른데서 오는 혼동감(?)도 전파를 이해하기 어렵게 하는 커다란 원인이다. 따라서 본고에서는 전파분야에 종사하는 사람보다는 전파란 무엇인가에 대해 궁금하게 생각하는 일반인을 대상으로 전파(주파수)의 일반적인 사항에 대해 설명하고 유한한 자원인 전파자원의 효율적 사용을 위한 정부의 정책과 우리나라가 대비하여야 할 과제에 대해 알기쉽게 설명하고자 한다.

A Study of Contents Analysis on Elementary Manguk -Gygi - Focusing on the Contents of Physical Geography - (소학 만국지지 내용 분석 - 자연지리를 중심으로 -)

  • This article focuses on the contents of physical geography described in elementary Manguk-Gygi, in the period commonly regarded as the Enlightenment Period in Korea. During this period, this textbook contains wide-range of facts and knowledges of worlds. The results are as follows. First, in written korean-chinese letters, people can easily interpret the contents of geography. Second, people can know conceptual understanding of difficult geomorphic words in accord with people's levels. Third, many information of world nations can be introduced by this book. Fourth, this book made a major contribution in overcoming traditional natural perspectives, by introducing foreign cultures, consists of contents of physical geography aimed at rational and objective perception of the nature. But it is possible to conclude that pro-Japanese education acted on the educational authorities could be carried out in Korea from the late of Nineteenth century.

Relation Between Degree of Consistency of Elementary Students' Preconceptions on the Brightness of Electric Bulb and Their Cognitive Conflict (전구의 밝기에 대한 초등학생들의 사전개념 일관성 정도와 인지갈등 정도와의 관계)

  • This study was to investigate the elementary students' preconception on the brightness of electric bulb and degree of consistency on their preconceptions. Participants were 160 students of fifth graders in Seoul area. They had already teamed about the brightness of series circuit and parallel circuit of batteries. After they solved six problems in the same context, we provided them a pair of circuit which was an anomalous situation. And then they conducted CCLT (Cognitive Conflict Level Test). Elementary school students showed various preconceptions when they explained the light of bulb of two Simple electric Circuits. Many Students Consistently Showed the Scientific misconceptions like 'the light of bulb of two simple electric circuits was that the more batteries and the fewer bulbs were brighter.' The level of consistency that students presented scientific misconceptions was grouped all of four, such as 'high, middle, low, and nothing.' Therefore the higher scientific achievement they have, the higher consistency they have. As the students had high consistency level, they revealed high cognitive conflict level significantly. This high consistency will help them to change their preconception on the brightness of electric bulb and their cognitive conflict.
