  • Korea is a rapidly industrializing nation. As a consequence, more mothers are working outside the home. This trend is likely to continue into the future and raises the problem of infant-toddler care during the mother's working hours. Considering that Korea is making such rapid economic advances, quality care for children of working mothers Is not only desirable but affordable as well. Variety in options for child care is recommended by Beck (1982). Some of the alternatives in child care have been discussed elsewhere (KWDI, 1984). This paper, thus, concentrated on center-based, worksite child care. Because the human environment is the most important aspect of the center, qualified staff and a low ratio of children per staff member is Vital. Philosophy of program and its actualization ensures that the children have a worthwhile experience at the center. The physical plant houses the center and includes provision for space, materials, and equipment for staff and child use in carrying out the program. Adequate health protection is a critical factor in infant-toddler group care programs.

  • While child care policy has mainly focused on the financial support for child care centers, the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Family Affairs recently announced the introduction of a child care allowances. The purpose of this study is to investigate how mothers and directors of child care centers perceived this child care allowance. One hundred and seventeen directors and one hundred and fifty six mothers in the Seoul, Kyunggi-Do, and Cheonbuk-Do areas participated in the survey. Moreover, the perception on some issues of child care allowance differed significantly depending on the types of child care center in question, the mother's economic participation or family income. Issues of importance to the successful introduction of a child care allowance system were also discussed.

  • This study is to see the problem of child abuse as a social problem and sees that the society as a whole needs to find a solution and suggest solutions. The results of this study are as follows. First, legal supplement should be given priority. This can be solved through legal amendments to relevant laws and legislative amendments. Second, institutional complement should be done. Physical and psychological treatment is more urgent for school children than school education for victim child. In the future, children's welfare facilities should be expanded to include child counseling centers for children who are living in homes rather than nursing homes but who have problematic behaviors and treatment facilities for children who need professional treatment. Third, measures should be taken against abused children. Results of action for affected children include home care, separation protection, home return, and death.

  • This study is a second analysis of the 7th Korean Longitudinal Survey of Women and Families. And, it is a descriptive survey research for comparing parental and health characteristics of 2 groups of workers and non-workers. For this, it has used crossover analysis and logistic regression analysis with the subjects of mothers of preschoolers - of 697 females in total, aged between 19 and 64. Based on the result of the logistic regression analysis, we have discovered a few factors inducing the females to participate in more economic activities. The factors are as follows : baby sitters available, the more number of child care centers, the more helps of baby sitting from the females' parents and in-law parents and physical activities less than 3 times a week. In contrast, however, the more preschoolers they have, the less likely they are to take an active part in the economy. Against the backdrop, the government should develop social service systems to encourage various child care services and to foster 'child raising mothers-friendly' environments not only in families but in workplaces. All this is to improve the health characteristics of preschoolers' mothers in a more healthy way' and to strike a balance between work and family.

  • This study examined the relationship among temperament, social support and hope of institutionalized children. A total of 198 children, aged 10 to 13, recruited from 20 institutions in Seoul participated. Demographics, temperament, social support from friends, institution-family and school teacher, and hope were assessed by self-report. Results showed that in bivariate level, temperament and social support were significantly associated with level of hope. However, hierarchical multiple regressions indicated that children's hope was predicted only by age and social support from friends, institution-family and school teacher. That is, temperament was not contributed to predict hope, whilst social support contributed unique variance to the prediction of hope, controlling for age. The more social support the children felt they had, the higher levels of hope they reported. Further analyses revealed that support from friends, institution-family and school teacher were influential factors in explaining hope agency, while support from institution-family and school teacher were influential factors in explaining hope pathway of institutionalized children, controlling for age.

The following problems have been identified through the Child Care Policy Analysis of: (1) Due to '0 to 2 years' free Child Care, Dual-earner families was difficult to use Child Care facilities. (2) Low-income families with children over 36 months were excluded from receiving Care allowance. Child Care of publicity is difficult to secure. Because children using Child Care facilities use private type Child Care facilities than the national and public Child Care. • Drawing on Bronfenbrenner's ecological system, the study explored the effect of the ecological variables affecting library satisfaction for mothers of early school-age children. The study used the eighth wave(2015) of Panel Study on Korean Children and conducted correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis, hierarchical regression analysis, and stepwise regression analysis. Researchers selected ecological variables for each ecological system based on previous studies. Results showed that mothers had moderate satisfaction with libraries, and their satisfaction with libraries was affected by library accessibility, satisfaction with public services, type of residence, children's reading time, and supportiveness of parenting policy. The study showed that external factors such as family, community, and policies could affect library satisfaction along with internal factors in the sociocultural context. The study suggested a possible practical implication for library policy.
