In order to manage forest recreation resources effectively, it is necessary to establish objective and quantifiable evaluative standards. They can be used to evaluate the present management conditions of recreation resources and to monitor the conditions continuously on the basis of the established evaluative standards. Normative approach is one of alternatives to help establish evaluative standards. Researchers and forest managers have been interested in the approach, and its usefulness in managing recreation resources has been emphasized. This paper evaluated the present conditions of the campgrounds on the basis of users' normative evaluative standards using the data collected by on-site survey at two campgrounds (Baemsagol Campground and Second Campground) in Chiri-Mountain National Park in 1.993. This paper established evaluative standards for eight impact indicators using normative approach, and it evaluated the present management conditions of the campgrounds on the basis of them. The present management conditions for noise time and littering behavior were worse than the evaluative standards at Baemsagol and Second Campground. Present conditions for inconsiderate behavior, number of tents, number of campers, and waiting time for using water supply were worse than the evaluative standards only at Baemsagol Campground. The present management conditions for distance between tents and waiting time for using restroom were better than the evaluative standards at both campgrounds. This study introduced how normative approach can be used to establish evaluative standards, and based on the study result, some management directions were suggested.

Trail and campground deteriorations and their environmental changes of soil and vegetation were studied in Tonghwa -Sa district of Mt. Palgong Natural Park through 1988 into 1989. The results are summarized as follows : 1. The bare width of trail as one of the trail condition factor was significantly greater on the more heavily used trail. Deterioration types of trail which had higher frequency for a total of 45 observations were rock exposure(42%), trail deepening(40%) and root exposure(18%) in the high order. And also sound type on which the trail was not deteriorated at all amounted to 33% of all observations. 2. Ecological changes of soil and vegatation of trailsides were not found at a uniform tendency except that soil hardness was slightly decreased from trail edge to the forest, but they could be grouped by the type of user\`s behavior and site conditions. Use impacts on the natural environment of trailside in Mt. Palgong are still far from the severe harmulness. 3. Worse damages to compground condition were appeared in Bawi-gol than Susu-gol campsite. Types of mechanically damaged trees were tree with exposed root(63% ), scared tree(43% ), mutilated tree(30 % ) and felled tree in highly frequent order. And diameter increments of trees in campsites were oppressed by the campers. 4. Tree damage types and their frequencies could be basic as a means of which grasp the bounds of user's impacts. User's disturbance on campsite extended to the distance of 70∼90m from the core of campsite at Pawi-gol and 20∼30m at Susu-gol respectively. As the tolerant trees to use impact, Lespedeza maximowiczii, Rhus trichocarpa, Acer palmatum, Rubus crataegifolius and Celastrus orbiculatus were considered.
The number of camping population and sites are rapidly increasing with to the expansion of camping culture and the advancement of leisure culture. It is necessary to develop an effective strategy of safety management, as a lot of accidents occur due to the increase of population and sites for camping. Particular attention needs to be paid for accident prevention in the increasing accidents of explosion awing to the overheating of bytane gas, and carbon monoxide poisoning due to the use of non-ventilated areas. In this study, the direction of safety management strategy is analyzed by a survey and analysis of risk factors in campsite about gas facilities and gas appliances in camp site. Accordingly, some directions are suggested. Conclusively, it is expected that the results of this study could help to improve efficiency management for camping.

Use impacts to trail and campground deteriorations and their changes of natural environment were studied in Mt. Kaya National Park in 1989. The entire width, bare width and maximum depth of trail as the trail condition were significantly greater on the more heavily used trail. Deteriorations of trail which were surveyed at the total of 51 were significantly different from those of non-deteriorated points. The changes of soil and vegetation of trailsides were not found at a uniform tendency but could be more clearly grouped by the types of user's disturbance, and use impact on trailside had reached 15m inside of forest. Percentage of area for Class 5 in campsite was about 36% and about 69% of campsite area was more severe than Class 3. Recreational activities retarded the diameter growth of trees in campsite and accelerated the different composition of species. Soil and vegetative factors adapted to understand the difference of use amount and the realm of use impact could be sorted. The realm influenced by user's disturbance was about 50m from the core of campsite. Fraxinus rhynchophylla, Rhus trichocarpa, Symplocos chinensis for. pilosa and Stephanandra incisa were considered as the tolerant species to user's impact.

This study was carried out to evaluate soil property between campsites located at Joongsanri, Daewonsa old, Daewonsa new, Baekmudong and their adjoining forest areas in the eastern area of Jirisan National Park. The survey results showed that there existed a significant difference(p<0.05) between the two areas in soil property, such as soil bulk density, soil hardness, soil pH, water infiltration and soil respiration rates. However, there was no difference in soil property by depth between surface soil($0{\sim}15cm$) and subsurface soil($15{\sim}30cm$) for the two areas(p>0.05). In case of soil bulk density, its values in campsites were significantly higher ($1.29{\sim}1.44g/cm^3$) than in forest areas($0.95g/cm^3$), while soil hardness was significantly lower(p<0.05) in forest areas($1.44kg/cm^2$) than in campsites($2.9{\sim}4.0kg/cm^2$). Soil pore space was significantly lower in campsites($45.7{\sim}51.4%$) than in forest areas(64.3%), and soil pH in forest areas indicated pH 5.46 and that of the campsites was distributed at the range from pH 6.49 to pH 6.38. In addition, water infiltration was significantly lower in campsites($0.79{\sim}2.06cc/sec$) than in forest areas(18.7cc/sec), while soil respiration rates were significantly higher in forest areas($0.58gCO_2/m^2/h$) than in campsites($0.13{\sim}0.34gCO_2/m^2/h$).

The purpose of this study is to analyze visitor preferences and the degree of service satisfaction for campsites and investigate factors that influence visitor satisfaction so that the study may provide proper data needed to build and operate campsites. The results are as follows. 1. It was found that men use campsites more frequently than women. Campsites are most often used by those in their thirties, the highest percentage out of all the age groups. Relaxation proved to be the main purpose for using campsites. It was also found that usually 2 to 4 people use a campsite at a time, the highest percentage as well. 2. The factor-analysis of 13 items related to campsite satisfaction can be divided into facilities, psychological factors, the surrounding-environment and access. 3. It was found that the satisfaction of lavatories has the most influence in the facilities factor. The satisfaction on the intention to revisit has the most influence in the psychological factor. The landscape element has the most influence in regards to the surrounding-environment and the guidance and sign system has the most influence in the access factor. 4. It was found that the factors that most influence overall satisfaction are facilities factor, psychological factors and the surrounding environment, in that order.
Use impacts on environmental deteriorations were studied on the four major trails and a campsite of Tokyuksan National Park in 1993. The entire width, bare width, maximum depth and slope of trail as the trail condition were significantly greater on the more heavily used trail. Percentages of rock-exposed, deepening, root-exposed points as the deterioration types of trail which were surveyed at the total of 106 points were higher and trail conditions were significantly different from those of non-deteriorated points. On the Paekryon trail, the damaged area more severe than Class 4 reaches about 910$m^2$/km and the use impact and deterioration on campsites were accelerated. The dominant trees of the the upper and lower layer in trail edge vegetation could be Quercus serrata and Acer pseudo-sieboldianum for Paekryon trail, Q. mongolica and Tripterigium regelii for the other trails. A. pseudo-sieboldianum, Q. serrata, Rhus trichocarpa, Fraxinus sieboldiana, Lespedeza maximowiczii, Symplocos chinensis for Pilosa were classified for tolerant species to use impacts.
