  • The performance test of recirculation line in propellant feeding system was carried out. Liquid oxygen was used as cryogenic propellant and helium was used as recirculation promotion gas. Tests were done in cases at atmospheric pressure and at pressure of 4 barg in the ullage space of propellant tank. Liquid oxygen recirculation flowrate with helium injection flowrate and temperature distribution along the line were measured. There was appropriate helium injection flowrate for gas-lift recirculation system. Test data were used to make calculation program by test data correlation method. In this paper the procedure of calculation was presented and the results were compared to test data.

  • The ground oxidizer supply system in the launch site of NARO space center had operated 9 times from the start of tests with ILV on May, 2009 to the 2nd flight test of the NARO vehicle. This system operated successfully for twice launches of the NARO vehicle. To judge the successful operation of the ground facility, it should have reproducibility and reliability. In this report, we have analyzed the liquid oxygen consumption of the system to judge of its reproducibility and it can be a reference for using this system for the next generation of KSLV system.

  • This paper describes the current development status of the major subsystems, turbopump and gas generator, for a turbopump-fed liquid oxygen-kerosene rocket engine system. As a secondary stage of the liquid rocket engine development test, turbopump-gas generator powerpack tests are planned. The schematics of the test hardware and the test facility for the TP+GG coupled test are presented. The results of a preliminary analysis for operating regimes of the TP+GG coupled test are also presented.

  • A program aiming at predicting dynamic characteristics of a Liquid Rocket Engine(LRE) was developed and examined to trace entire LRE operation. In the startup period, transient characteristics of the propellant flows were predicted and validated with hydraulic tests data. An arrangement of each component for the pipelines was based on an operating circuit of open cycle LRE. The flow rate ratio for the gas generator and the main chamber was determined to mimic that of real open cycle LRE. Individual component modeling at its transient was completed and was integrated into the system prediction program. Essential parameters of the component dynamic characteristics were examined in an integrated fashion.

  • This paper describes the main considerations for the development of engine emergency protection system and applications to preliminary engine development tests. Emergency protection system performed its role without failure to shutdown test very quickly for the prevention of development of malfunctioning of test articles, which protected test articles and test facility in all abnormal situation occurred during preliminary engine development test program. This results will be used for the development of engine emergency protection system.

  • Modeling and Simulation(M&S) for a liquid propellant supply system is a technique to predict the performance of components and systems under certain conditions based on mathematical modeling for each component of the engine. In this paper, the basic structure of M&S for the supply system applied to liquid rocket engines was obtained by analyzing the related research conducted. The basic mathematical modeling of components was organized and the characteristics of each study result were analyzed. Based on the analysis and validation results, M&S method of advanced foreign research institutes was also identified, and factors related to its accuracy were described.
