Between rolling airframe missile and swirling propulsion jet passing through convergent-divergent nozzle of the rocket motor, occur exchanges of angular momentum which result in the increase of roll speed of the missile. This phenomena in called jet roll damping. In the study jet roll damping was formulated from conservation equation of angular momentum. And the maximum value of the jet roll damping of KPSAM was estimated with assumed swirl velocity distribution at nozzle exit and compared with result of computation of axisymmetric compressible turbulent nozzle flow.
Compressible flow characteristics in a butterfly valve is studied experimentally and numerically. The disk angle of the valve is changed as $0^{\circ}{\sim}30^{\circ}$. The SST model is used to represent the turbulent effect in the commercial code, CFX11. It was found that the numerical results are similar to the experimental ones, general discussions are given to the pressure distributions upon the disk angle of the valve.
A methodology for the simulation of compressible high Reynolds number flow over rigid and moving bodies on a structured Cartesian grid is described in this paper. The approach is based on a modified version of the Brinkman Penalization method. To avoid oscillations in the vicinity of the body and to simulate shcok-containing flows, a Weighted Essentially Non-Oscillatory scheme is used to discretize the spatial flux derivatives. For high Reynolds number viscous flow, two turbulence models of the two-equation Menter's SST URANS model and a two-equation Detached Eddy Simulation are implemented. Some simple flow examples are given to assess the accuracy of the technique. Finally, a moving grid capability is demonstrated.
Very frequently the compressible flow in an extinction nozzle of gas circuit breaker is simulated under no arc assumption, which can be reasonable for both high and low current breakings. In the present study, computations are performed to investigate the major features of the compressible flows inside the arc extinction nozzle of gas circuit breaker. A fully implicit finite volume scheme is applied to solve the two-dimensional, steady, compressible, Wavier-Stokes equations. The computed results are validated with the previous experimental data available. Several types of turbulence models are explored to reasonably predict the complicated flows inside the arc extinction nozzle. The obtained results show that the shock wave boundary layer interaction inside the nozzle significantly influences the whole performance of the gas breaker.

Time marching methods are well-suited for high speed compressible flow computations. However, it is well known that the time marching methods suffer a slow down in convergence due to disparity in Eigenvalues. A local preconditioning method is one of numerical methods to enhance convergence characteristics of low mach number flows by modifying Eigenvalues of the governing equations. In this paper, the local preconditioning method of Weiss is applied to a 2 dimensional Navier-Stokes code and the efficiency of the preconditioning method is shown through a number of computational examples.
A sudden pressure drop caused by the pressure relief valve acts as a strong noise source and propagates the compressible pressure fluctuation along the pipe wall, which becomes a excitation source of Acoustic Induced Vibration (AIV). Therefore, in this study, the numerical methodology is developed to evaluate the reduction effect of compressible pressure fluctuation due to curved pipe in the pressure relief valve system. To describe the acoustic wave caused by density fluctuation, unsteady compressible Large Eddy Simulation (LES) technique, which is high accuracy numerical method, Smagorinsky-Lilly subgrid scale model is applied. Wavenumber-frequency analysis is performed to extract the compressible pressure fluctuation component, which is propagated along the pipe, from the flow field, and it is based on the wall pressure on the upstream and downstream pipe from the curved pipe. It is shown that the plane wave and the 1st mode component in radial direction are dominant along the downstream direction, and the overall acoustic power was reduced by 3 dB through the curved pipe. From these results, the noise reduction effect caused by curved pipe is confirmed.

A matched asymptotic analysis is conducted for a compressible rotating flow in a cylindrical container when a mechanical and/or a thermal disturbance is imposed on the wall. The system Ekman number is assumed to be very small. The conditions for the Taylor-Proudman column in the interior, which were also given in the companion paper Park & Hyun, 2002) by means of the energy balancing analysis, have been re-derived. The concept of the variable, the energy content $e[{\equiv}T+2 {\alpha}^2 {\gamma}{\nu}]$, is reformulated, and its effectiveness in characterizing the energy transport mechanism is delineated. It is seen that, under the condition of the Taylor-Proudman column, numerous admissible theoretical solutions for interior flow exist with an associated wail boundary condition. Some canonical examples are illustrated with comprehensive physical descriptions. The differential heating problem on the top and bottom endwall disks is revisited by using the concept of the energy content. The results are shown to be in line with the previous findings.

A numerical analysis based on two-dimensional and three-dimensional incompressible Wavier-Stokes equations has been carried out for double-circular-arc compressor cascades and the results are compared with available experimental data at various incidence angles. The 2-D and 3-D computational codes based on SIMPLE algorithm adopt pressure weighted interpolation method for non-staggered grid and hybrid scheme for the convective terms. Turbulence modeling is very important for prediction of cascade flows, which are extremely complex with separation and reattachment by adverse pressure gradient. Considering computation times, $\kappa$-$\varepsilon$ turbulence model with wall function is used.
