Experimental study on Mechanical Properties and Optimum Mix Design of Sulfur-Rubber Concrete (SRC) (황(黃)-고무 콘크리트의 역학적(力學的) 특성(特性)과 최적배합비(最適配合比)에 관한 연구(硏究))

  • Recently, as the registration of vehicles increases, the utilization of the waste tires is emerging as environmental issues. Crumb rubber reproduced by scrap tires has been reused up to 25% in the construction field. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the mechanical properties of sulfur-rubber concrete (SRC) and to suggest the optimum mix design in terms of the compressive strength. Specimens were prepared with various mixing parameters: amount of sulfur, rubber, and micro-fillers. Two casting processes were also mentioned; dry process and wet process. The results mainly showed that the compressive strength of SRC decreased with an increment of rubber content. However, adding micro-filler and adjusting sulfur contents could improve the compressive strength of SRC. Optimum values of sulfur and rubber content were selected by workability and compressive strength of SRC. SRC can be applied to road constructions where high strength of concrete is not concerned, to wall panels that require low unit weight, to construction of median in highways to resist high impact load, and in sound barriers to absorb sound waves.

The Effect of Compressed Video Traffic over ABR on Satellite ATM Networks (위성 ATM 망에서 압축된 비디오 트래픽의 ABR 서비스에 미치는 영향)

  • In this paper we consider the performance of TCP video traffic over ABR with Long-Range Dependent VBR traffic. As compressed coded video traffics are increasing rapidly over Internet, lots of studies are being done for transmitting those traffics efficiently using limited network resources. We consider here the transmitting video service over ABR service in ATM networks, especially satellite networks. CBR or VBR services are suggested in transmitting the video traffic in ATM Forum TM 4.0. But ABR service connection, which is considered as appropriate service for data traffic, can be established with a small amount of bandwidth, MCR (Minimum cell rate). Furthermore ABR service can control the source's transmitting rate using feedback mechanism. Using this feature ABR service can be used in some applications which can control their quality of services corresponding to network loads. Compressed video sources with MPEG-2 are used for Long-Range Dependent VBR traffic here. We model the compressed video source to resemble the MPEG-2 transport streams. These compressed video traffic streams are consisted of three different frames, I-frame, P-frame, and B-frame. So when a network are overloaded, we can control the quality of service using this traffic features. TCP Traffics over ABR need large buffers in ATM switch to satisfy their QoS with background VBR traffics, which have high deviations in bandwidth. Furthermore satellite ATM networks with large feedback delay need large buffers corresponding RTT delay. The performance comparisons among EFCI and ER switch (ERICA+) switches in the network circumstances described above were shown in this paper. We also considered the case with ON-OFF VBR traffics.

Si 함유 DLC 필름의 탄성특성 평가

  • 박막의 탄성특성을 평가하는 방법으로 nano-indentation, Brillouin light scattering measurement, ultrasonic surface wave measurement, bulge test, vibration membrane method 등 여러 가지가 제시되어 왔다. 최근에는 탄성특성을 평가할 수 있는 간단한 방법으로 기판 식각 기법을 이용한 freehang, bridge 방법이 제시되었다. 이중에서 bridge 방법은 간단한 식각 기법을 이용하여 얇은 박막에서도 탄성 특성을 평가할 수 있는 방법으로 제시되었다. 그러나 식각 과정에서 발생하는 patch 부분의 under-cut으로 인해 정확한 bridge의 길이를 측정할 수 없게 되어 오차가 발생하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 bridge 방법에서 발생하는 오차를 줄이기 위한 방법으로, patch 부분에 etch-stop을 제작해 줌으로서 식각 과정에서 발생하는 under-cut을 효과적으로 제거시켰다. Etch-stop은 2장의 mask를 align key를 이용하여 제작하였다. 먼저 산화막이 형성되어 있는 Si 기판위에 mask 1을 이용하여 patch 부분을 lithography 작업하고, 습식 식각 공정을 한 뒤 DLC 필름을 증착시킨다. 다음으로 mask 2를 이용하여 bridge pattern을 제작하고, DLC 필름을 증착시킨 후 lift-off 기술과 산화막 등방식각 공정을 통해 bridge를 제작하였다. 이렇게 제작된 bridge를 통해 필름이 기판에 부착되기 위해 필요한 변형률을 측정하고, 독립적으로 측정된 필름의 잔류응력과 함께 박막의 응력-변형률 관계식에 적용시켜 biaxial elastic modulus, E/(1-v)를 구할 수 있었다. Sidl 첨가된 DLC 필름은 rf-PACVD 장비를 이용하여 증착하였다. 이때 전극과 플라즈마 사이의 바이어스 음전압은 -400V로 합성압력은 10mTorr로 고정하였다. 사용한 반응가스는 벤젠(C6H6)과 희석된 실렌(SiH4:2H=10:90)이며, 희석된 실렌의 첨가량을 조절하여 필름 내에 함유된 Si의 양을 조절하였다. 각각의 조건에서 증착시간을 조절하여 필름의 두께를 조절하였다. 필름의 잔류응력은 압축잔류 응력에 의해 발생한 필름/기판 복합체의 곡률을 laser 반사법을 이용하여 측정하고, 이 결과를 Brenner 등에 의해 유도된 식을 대입하여 계산하였다.

Performance of Fresh and Hardened Ultra High Performance Concrete without Heat Treatment (상온 양생한 초고성능 콘크리트(UHPC)의 경화 전과 후의 성능 관계)

  • This study investigates the relationship between the performance of fresh and hardened Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC) without heat treatment. The performance of fresh UHPC is determined by the slump flow test related to the fluidity of concrete mixtures, and the air content test. The variables of these tests are the water to binder ratio, superplasticizer dosages and volume fractions of steel fiber. Generally, insufficient fluidity and excessive air contents in concrete mixtures lead to the insufficient packing density related to the performance of harden concrete. The performance of hardened UHPC is determined by the compressive and flexural tensile tests. The results of the fresh UHPC tests show that there is the linear correlation between each variable and the slump flow diameter, and that the slump flow diameter is linearly decreased as the air content ratio increase. Using these results, the formula is developed to predict the fresh performance before mixing UHPC. The results of the hardened UHPC tests show that the hardened performance is not influenced by the air content ratio in the range of 3.2 to 4.2 per cent. However, the flexural tensile strength dominantly influenced by the volume fractions of steel fiber.

Rate Control of Layered MPEG-1 Video Stream in Wired/Wireless Environment (유무선 복합환경에서 계층화된 MPEG-1 비디오를 위한 전송률 전송 기법)

  • 유무선 복합환경에서 비디오 데이터의 전송은 무선 링크에서의 적은 대역폭과 높은 손실율에 의해 좋은 화질로 서비스 받기 힘들다. 특히 MPEG 등의 비디오 압축 표준은 많은 대역폭을 차지하며 패킷의 손실은 비디오의 다음 프레임의 화질에까지 영향을 미친다. 따라서 무선 환경에서 사용 가능한 대역폭과 에러율을 고려하여 가능한 최선의 화질을 제공하기 위해서 계층화된 비디오 데이터 스트림 포맷을 제안하고, 이를 이동 호스트에 전송하는 게이트웨이에서 무선 링크의 상황에 따라 전송률을 조정하는 알고리즘을 제안하고 실험하였다. 실험 환경으로 비디오 서버에서 게이트웨이 간의 유선 환경은 10Mbps 이더넷 링크, 게이트웨이에서 무선이동 호스트간의 무선 환경은 2Mbps WaveLAN을 사용하였다. 비디오 응용은 MPEG-1 비디오를 가정하였고 동적으로 FEC를 적용하는 방법을 무선링크의 에러와 전송률 조절에 사용한다.

Perception of Time-altered Sentences and Selective Word Stress by Normal-hearing Listeners (시간 변화와 선택적 단어 강조법이 정상 청력 성인의 문장인지도에 미치는 영향)

  • The present study examined whether sentence perception scores were changed under various conditions of time alteration (compression and/or expansion) and selective word stress in normal hearing listeners. Twenty young normal hearing adults (ten males) were participated. As stimuli, Korean standard-sentence list for adults (KS-SL-A) modified to semantically anomalous sentences was newly recorded by a female speaker. Seven different time-altered conditions (e.g., ${\pm}60%$, ${\pm}40%$, ${\pm}20%$, 0 %) were controlled. To see the effect of selective word stress (i.e., the emphasis of specific syllables in the sentence), all subjects were tested twice 2 weeks apart. The results showed 1) there was significantly different sentence perception scores among the different time-altered conditions, yet only in the 60 % compression condition; 2) there was no significant difference of the sentence perception scores in the effect of stress; however, there was a positive effect of the selective word stress in the sentences consisting of 6 ~ 7 syllables at the 40 % compression condition; 3) there was no significant gender difference. The pattern of results suggests that the combination of time compression and selective word stress is more effective to understand speech, instead of only using time expansion condition. However, further studies should be needed for standardization.

Initial QP Determination Algorithm using Bit Rate Model (비트율 모델을 이용한 초기 QP 결정 알고리즘)

  • The first frame is encoded in intra mode which generates a larger number of bits. In addition, the first frame is used for the inter mode encoding of the following frames. Thus the initial QP for the first frame affects the first frame as well as the following frames. Traditionally, the initial QP is determined among four constant values only depending on the bpp. In the case of low bit rate video coding, the initial QP value is fixed to 40 regardless of the output bandwidth. Although this initialization scheme is simple, yet it is not accurate enough. An accurate initial QP prediction scheme should not only depends on bpp but also on the complexity of the video sequence and the output bandwidth. In the proposed scheme, we determine the initial QP according to the ratio of the first frame to the total bits allocated to a GOP. To estimate the QP of the allocated bits, Rate-QP model is used. It is shown by experimental results that the new algorithm can predict the optimal initial QP more accurately and generate the PSNR performance better than that of the existing JVT algorithm.

Fabrication and Characteristics of Mesophase Pitch-Based Graphite Foams Prepared Using PVA-AAc Solution (PVA-AAc 용액을 사용한 메조페이스 핏치기반 그라파이트 폼의 제조 및 특성)

  • Graphite foams (GFs) were prepared by adding different amounts of mesophase pitch (MP) into polyvinyl alcohol-acrylic acid (PVA-AAc) solution followed by the heat treatment. It was confirmed that the pore diameters of GFs were controlled by the slurry concentration, which was the mesophase content added in polymer solution, and their thermal conductivity and compressive strength were also controlled by porosities of GFs formed at different conditions. The resulting GFs in this study had the highest thermal conductivity of $53.414{\pm}0.002W/mK$ and compressive strength of $1.348{\pm}0.864MPa$ at 0.69 in porosity. The thermal conductivity of MP based GFs increased approximately 23 times higher than that of using isotropic pitch based GFs due to the developed graphitic structure.

Video Coding using Multiple Description Transform Coding (다중기술 변환기법을 이용한 비디오 부호화 알고리즘)

  • IP 네트웍을 통해 실시간 비디오를 전송할 때 네트윅 특성을 고려하여 비디오 데이터를 부호하면 패킷 손실로 인한 품질 열화를 최소화하여 더 좋은 품질의 비디오를 얻을 수 있다. 이를 위해 현재 네트윅의 정보를 빠르고 정확하게 얻어내는 메커니즘과 부호화 변수를 네트윅 상황에 적응적으로 조절하여 패킷 손실에 강인한 압축 및 전송 메커니즘의 두 가지 기능이 요구된다. 첫번째 메커니즘은 RTP(Real Time Transport Protocol)을 통해 구현될 수 있으며, 두 번째 메커니즘을 위해 본 연구에서는 다중기술 변환부호화(Multiple Description Transform Coding) 기법을 적용한 비디오 부호화 알고리즘을 제안한다. RTP에서 제공하는 RTCP(Real Time Control Protocol) 정보를 이용하여 현재 네트웍 정보를 얻을 수 있으며, 다중기술 변환부호화 기법을 이용하여 현재의 패킷 손실률에서 최적의 품질을 보장하도록 부호화 변수를 조절할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 다중기술 변환부호화 기법을 비디오 부호화에 적용하여 순수 비디오 정보에 추가되는 잉여 정보량과 패킷 손실에 대한 강인성 사이의 관계를 도출함으로써 다중기술 변환부호화 기법이 네트웍 적응적 부호화 방식에 적합한 방식임을 제시한다.

Frame Skipping Algorithm for Minimization of Video Quality Variation (영상 품질 변화를 최소화하는 프레임 생략 알고리즘)

  • According to recently presented QoS architecture by 3GPP, a traffic conditioner may be deployed to provide conformance of the negotiated QoS. In this paper, a real-time frame-layer rate control method which can be applied to the traffic conditioner of 3GPP is proposed. The proposed rate control method uses an efficient frame skipping algorithm method for low computational complexity, and performs bit allocation at the frame level to minimize the average distortion over an entire sequence as well as variations in distortion between frames. The proposed algorithm does not produce time delay from encoding, and is suitable for real-time low-complexity video encoder.
