Practical Civil UAV Engine Control using High-gain Observer (고이득 관측기를 이용한 실용형 민수 무인항공기 엔진 제어)

  • In this paper, proposed controller preventing compressor surge and reducing the acceleration time of the fuel flow control system for turbo-jet engine. Turbo-jet engine controller is designed by applying fuzzy PID control algorithm and high-gain observer. Observer is used to estimate to compressor rotation speed of turbo-jet engine. Result of fuzzy inference is used as the fuel flow control inputs for preventing compressor surge and flame-out in turbo-jet engine. The controller is designed to converge to the desired speed quickly and safely. Using MATLAB to perform computer simulations verified the performance of the proposed controller.

  • The easiest way to see the phenomena of compressor surge is to show the static and dynamic operation characteristic on the map. Its operation zone will be restricted by the surge limit and, static and transient process must have some margin for it. Effect of rotor moment of inertia, air/gas volumes and heat transfer are factors to cause the transition from the static line. In case a large volume such as heat exchanger exists in the system it will exert a substantial influence to dynamic characteristics. In the present paper, influence of air volume bled from the compressor exit on transient process is investigated with an example of an auxiliary power unit micro-turbine engine. Turbine mass, pressure ratio, rotation speed, power and moment are calculated based on mass and work conservation. Result from the present study can give guidance to design the control system. A computer program is developed to calculate the dynamic process using the MathCAD commercial software.

Turbine Efficiency Measurement of Pulsating Flow in a Twin Scroll Turbocharger (맥동 유동이 있는 트윈 스크롤 터보과급기의 터빈 효율 측정)

  • Turbocharging is becoming a key technology for both diesel and gasoline engines. Regarding gasoline engines, turbocharging can help reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions when used in conjunction with other technologies. This paper presents measurements of the turbine efficiency of pulsating flow in a twin-scroll turbocharger for gasoline engines. A cold gas test bench with a pulse generator was manufactured. The turbine efficiencies were calculated using the measured data of the instantaneous pressure and temperature of the inlet and exit of the turbine. The measurements were carried out at turbine speeds from 60,000 to 100,000 rpm under a pulsating flow of 25.0 Hz and 33.0 Hz. The turbine efficiencies ranged from 0.517 to 0.544. At the pulse frequency, 33.3 Hz, the variations in efficiency were 7.7% and 2.6% at turbine speeds of 60,000 rpm and 100,000 rpm, respectively. The turbine efficiency of the pulsating flow compared to those of steady flow was 7.0% and 3.0% lower at a turbine speed of 60,000 rpm and 100,000 rpm, respectively. The pulsating flow deteriorated the turbine efficiency, but the effects of pulsating flow decreased with increasing turbine speed.

Surge Control of Turbofan Engine Compressor with the Variable Inlet Guide Vane (가변 안내익을 이용한 터보팬 엔진 압축기의 서지 제어)

  • Surge phenomenon can be occurred in a compressor when compressor performance of turbofan engine for an aircraft is changed considerably in a short time on the cases like take-off phase and changing of RPM from idle to maximum, because performance of aircraft engine is changed suddenly. This study is aimed to avoid surge in a compressor. Dynamic simulation in a compressor is modeled by simulink in specific condition. Fuel flow is control input, rpm and air mass flow are expressed in terms of transfer function. Surge margin is obtained by using compressor performance map from NPSS. VIGV(Variable Inlet Guide Vane) is controlled by PD controller with difference between surge margin and reference. Finally this paper verifies IGV can prevent surge phenomenon in a compressor.

  • This paper presents the capacity-control characteristics in an industrial cooler with a variable speed compressor. The inverter-type compressor is controlled by the rotational speed of the operational frequency. This type of the compressor performs the wide range of load compared to the on-off type. When the load of the system reduces, the rotational speed will be reduced. Thus, the system leads to the less power consumption and extends the longer durability of the compressor. With the variable rotational speed of the compressor the cooling capacity of the cooler is about 1.6-3.6 kW and the capacity control is about 40-100%. The system showed the highest efficiency when the rotational speed is about 45-70 Hz. The results can be used as the basic design data to control an industrial cooler.

  • Variable guide vanes(VGVs) that consist of link mechanisms and an actuator system are required for an aircraft gas turbine engine to adjust the incidence angle of stator vanes. In this study, we developed a VGV actuator system for three-stage VGVs with two hydraulic actuators. The requirements for the actuator system were derived by analyzing the link mechanisms and air loads, and a hydraulic power-pack was developed based on these requirements. Through a load test using the actuator test-rig and the application of synchronizing control logic with proper control gains, the actuator system could be developed and verified.

An Experimental Study on Performance of Vapor Compression Refrigeration Cycle with Al2O3 nano-particle (Al2O3 나노 입자를 적용한 증기 압축 냉동 사이클의 성능)

  • An experimental study was performed estimating COP(Coefficient of Performance) of air-conditioning cycle using inverter scroll compressor with and without $Al_2O_3$ nano particle. All experiments were done for various compressor speeds from 1000~4000 rpm and used the inverter controller called CANDY to change the compressor rpm. The air-conditioning cycle components in the apparatus were used as same with components of YF hybrid car. To estimate the COP, this study measured the temperature and pressure at inlets and outlets of compressor, condenser, and evaporator. And also measured the compressor input power using Powermeter. Through the experiments, the maximum error to estimate COP was shown about ${\pm}6.09%$ at 3500rpm. The COP of refrigeration cycle with $Al_2O_3$ nano-particle was similar with that of the base cycle without nano-particle between 1000~3000 rpm of the compressor speed. But, This study showed that the COP of the cycle with $Al_2O_3$ over 3000 rpm of the compressor speed was higher than that of the base cycle due to the higher heat transfer rate increased in the evaporator from the higher oil flow rate inside the cycle as well known. Those results can be used the basic and fundamental data to design the air-conditioning cycle using inverter scroll compressor with $Al_2O_3$ nano particle.

  • An environmental control system is installed to dissipate the thermal load in avionic equipments that are mounted under an aircraft. The operating characteristics of the system change with variations in the control parameters. In this study, an environmental control system was designed and built using R-124 by adopting a vapor compression cycle. The operating characteristics of this system were observed by varying the control parameters, such as refrigerant charging amount, opening of the expansion device, compressor rotation speed, and blower rotation speed. The effect of the control parameters on the environmental control system was analyzed and an optimum control method was identified.

네트웍 기반 자기베어링용 전력 증폭기 설계

  • 최근 회전기계에 대한 세계적인 기술추세를 볼 때 해를 거듭할수록 더욱 정밀해지고 고속화에 대한 요구가 한층 증대되고 있으며 이러한 측면에서 여러 분야에 우수한 장점을 지니고 있는 능동적 자기베어링의 회전축계 활용에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 특히 프랑스를 중심으로 한 미국, 일본 등이 이에 대한 연구를 활발하게 수행하여 고속 공작기계 스핀들을 비롯한 고진공 펌프 및 각종 터어빈, 압축기 등에 실용화시키는 단계에 있다. 그러나 국내 관련기술에 대한 연구는 연구소, 학계를 중심으로 실험실적인 기초연구로서 부분적으로 수행하는 단계에 있으며 관련분야 활용을 위한 본격적인 연구는 수행되지 못하고 있는 실정이고 이를 실용화시키기 위한 일환으로 능동적 자기 베어링의 회전 축계를 구성하고 있는 요소기술 중 하나인 전력 증폭기의 개발이 이뤄져야 할 필요성이 있는데 본 논문에서는 네트웍 기반 전력 증폭기 개발을 시도하였다. 전력 증폭기는 크게 리니어 앰프와 스위칭 앰프로 구분된다. 리니어 앰프의 경우 회로가 간단하고 노이즈가 비교적 작다는 장점이 있지만 전력손실 및 발열이 크기 때문에 에너지 측면에서 저 효율이라는 점과 따로 방열판을 부착해야 한다는 단점을 가지고 있고, 스위칭 앰프의 경우 전력손실이 작은 반면, 회로가 비교적 복잡하고 노이즈의 발생 가능성이 높다는 단점이 있다. 본 논문에선 위 두 가지 방식을 혼합한 혼합형 전력 증폭기로 설계하였다. 또한 기존에 전력증폭기의 경우 상위 주제어기로부터 제어량을 아날로그 신호로 통신하기 때문에 발생할 수 있는 EMI 노이즈신호에 대한 대책을 세워야 하는데 본 연구를 통해 개발된 전력증폭기는 따로 보조제어기(TMS320LF2406A)를 두어 상위 주제어기에 전력증폭기의 상태값을 궤환할 수 있도록 명령 신호체계를 전체 시스템의 샘플링 시간을 고려하여 비교적 전송 속도가 빠른 CAN(Controller Area Network)으로 구축하여 주제어기와 전력 증폭기간에 양방향 통신이 가능하도록 하였다. 이로써 전력증폭기의 상태정보를 알 수 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 칩 설계기술의 발전으로 가격대 성능비가 우수한 DSP(TMS320LF2406A)를 이용하여 과거의 아날로그 방식의 명령신호체계를 디지털 신호체계로 바꿈으로써 네트웍을 통해 전력증폭기의 상태진단 가능성을 검증한다.

Experimental Study on the Cooling seasonal Performance Factor of Room Air-conditioner (에어컨의 냉방기간 에너지 효율 산출을 위한 실험적 연구)

  • In most cases, EER(Energy Efficiency Ratio) is available to present energy efficiency of air-conditioners. But, EER is not adapt to measure energy efficiency at actual life environment because it is based on fixed temperature and humidity contditions. To overcome this disadvantage, there is need to introduce SEER(Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) established at time varient temperature and humidity conditions. In this paper, SEER measurement method and conditions based on actual life environment of the country is introduced, and discussed SEER value about two air-conditioner type, that is, non inverter air-conditioner and inverter air-conditioner. As a result of, inverter air-conditioner was superior to non inverter air-conditioner at cooling seasonal energy efficiency.
