  • I design an Embedded File System in Linux Operating System by applying modified LZSS compressed algorithm. This suggested Compressed File System which is modified file system of the Linux O.S saves the storage space. The compressed file system supports efficient use of storage space. The suggesting file system solves the small space of embedded system. The suggesting file system of this paper gives effect of the large storage space without extending the storage space.

  • An approximate analytical method to predict performance characteristics of the stirling engines in a preliminary design stage was investigated. In basic equations proposed by walker, typical temperatures of working fluids in expansion and compression spaces were treated the same as those of working fluids in heater and cooler respectively. While the temperature of working fluids in the expansion space was actually lower than that of working fluids in the heater, the temperature of working fluids in the compression space was higher than that of working fluids in the cooler. The aim of this study divided typical temperatures of working fluids in expansion and compression spaces into serval grades, and than evaluated the experimental engine. As the result, the case which working fluids temperature of expansion space was treated as lower than the heater temperature and which that of compression space was treated as higher than the cooler temperature, was much closer to the experimental value.

  • 최근 이동전화, PDA, 텔레매틱스 단말기 등과 같은 모바일 기기에서 공간데이터에 대한 사용이 증가하고 있다. 하지만 모바일 기기의 저장 공간이 늘어났음에도 불구하고 여전히 공간데이터에 대한 요구를 수용하기에는 한계가 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 모바일 환경에서 사용 가능한 공간데이터에 대한 손실 압축 기법을 제시하고, 실험을 통한 압축률, 데이터 손실률을 분석하여 연구의 타당성과 적용 가능성을 제시하고자 한다. 세부적으로 압축률과 데이터 손실에 따르는 위치 정확도 관계에서 위치정확도를 높일 수 있는 방향을 모색하여 보았다. 그리고 다양한 군집화 기법 중 연구에 적용 가능한 기법을 선정 이용하였다. 또한 저장 공간뿐만 아닌 연산 성능 측면에서도 열악한 모바일 환경에서 만족할 만한 복원 성능을 보여야 한다. 따라서 압축된 데이터를 복원하는데 소요되는 비용을 최소화할 수 있는 방향이 연구되었다.

A Study on Calculation of Urban Compactness Index Considering Space Syntax: Focusing on the Declining Local Cities (공간구문론을 활용한 도시 압축지수 산정에 관한 연구: 소멸위험도시를 중심으로)

  • Recently, Korea has been experiencing a problem of population decline, therefore the transition to a compact spatial structure is being urged. However, what is required is not just physical compression, but a compact city that also considers connectivity, in view of the changes in today's demographic and industrial structure. From this point of view, this study measures the compressibility of domestic cities suffering from extinction risk due to low birth rates, aging population, and population decline, and examined the spatial structure characteristics. In addition to the compressibility evaluation index used in previous studies, the compressibility of six indicators (population, land use, service accessibility, transport accessibility, connectivity, and concentration) was compared and analyzed, and a comprehensive compression index was calculated. The analysis results, based on the comprehensive compression index, classified 2.3% cities in the first grade, 4.6% in the second grade, 16.09% in the third grade, 43.68% in the fourth grade, and 33.33% in the fifth grade areas. Currently, the urban characteristics affecting the compactness index differ from region to region. Therefore, it is necessary to establish measures and policies for extinction risk considering the influence of each region's compactness index. This study is meaningful in that connectivity was considered using spatial syntax, and the compactness of cities at risk of extinction was compared and analyzed quantitatively. It is expected that this study will be used as basic data to establish the direction and action strategy for extinction risk cities.

MPEG-2 to MPEG-4 Transcoders in The Spatial Domain and The DCT Domain (공간 영역과 DCT 영역에서 MPEG-2로부터 MPEG-4 로 변환하는 압축기의 구현)

  • Various multimedia systems have been developed and their application areas widely proliferate. Thus, the interoperability is getting important among various networks and devices. The video transcoding is a technology to solve this interoperability problem among various coding standards. Transcoding can be defined as the conversion of one compressed coded data to another. In this paper, MPEG-2 to MPEG-4 transcoder in the spatial domain is compared with that in the DCT domain. The transcoder is very useful when a video sequence that is originally encoded for digital TV, DVD or satellite broadcasting is served in mobile environment. In order to compare two transcoders, all modules except motion compensation and down sampling are implemented identically. In addition, both transcoders do not search for motion vector. Instead, the decoded information is reused to the encoder. The experimental results show that the transcoder in the spatial domain is usually better than that in the DCT domain with respect to PSNR (Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio), bitrate and execution time.

  • In the mobile vector map service environments, there are problems like as terminal resource shortage and transmission delay for the characteristics of large spatial data. For the normal mobile vector map services, some techniques are required to overcome the problems. Spatial data compression approach is one of the techniques to reduce the bandwidth and the waiting time at clients. However it also must be considered that the effect on total efficiency caused by the overhead of compression and restoration time. This thesis proposes two spatial data compression techniques. First approach is to get relative coordinates to first coordinate of each object. The other approach is to compute client coordinates before transmission. Through the implementation and experiments, proposed techniques are evaluated the compression effects and efficiency.

Hybrid Polyline Simplification for GIS Vector Map Data Compression (GIS 벡터맵 데이터 압축을 위한 혼합형 폴리라인 단순화)

  • This paper presents a GIS vector map data compression scheme based on hybrid polyline simplification method and SEC(spatial energy compaction). The proposed method extracts all layers which contain polylines in the GIS vector map and compress all polylines in extracted layers by the hybrid polyline simplification and SEC based on MAE(minimum area error) for each segment in the line. The proposed simplification and SEC increase the compression ratio while preserving the shape quality. We analyze the visual aspects and compression efficiency between the original GIS vector map and the compressed map. From experimental results, we verify that our method has the higher compression efficiency and visual quality than conventional methods.

However, the main obstacles for mobile vector map service environments, are large data volume and narrow wireless bandwidth. Among the many possible solutions, spatial data compression technique may contribute to reduce the load of bandwidth and client response time. This thesis proposes two methods for spatial data compression. The one is relative coordinates transformation method, and the other is client coordinates transformation method. And, this thesis also proposes the system architecture for experiments. The two compression methods could be evaluated the compression effect and the response time.

A Selective Compression Strategy for Performance Improvement of Database Compression (데이터베이스 압축 성능 향상을 위한 선택적 압축 전략)

  • The Internet of Things (IoT) significantly increases the amount of data. Database compression is important for big data because it can reduce costs for storage systems and save I/O bandwidth. However, it could show low performance for write-intensive workloads such as OLTP due to the updates of compressed pages. In this paper, we present practical guidelines for the performance improvement of database compression. Especially, we propose the SELECTIVE strategy, which compresses only tables whose space savings are close to the expected space savings calculated by the compressed page size. Experimental results using the TPC-C benchmark and MySQL show that the strategy can achieve 1.1 times better performance than the uncompressed counterpart with 17.3% space savings.
