  • A series of in-situ and laboratory tests were performed for the clayey soils of Busan area in order to develop the methods to evaluate the compressibility using CPT and DMT results. The laboratory tests show that the clayey layers of Busan areas are normally consolidated, and their compression indices are turned out to be 0.5~1.3. From the analysis of test results, correlation factors between the cone resistance and constrained modulus (${\alpha}_m$ and ${\alpha}_n$) are observed to decrease with increasing plasticity index, and the correlation factor between the dilatometer modulus and constrained modulus $(R_M)$ increases with $1/I_D$. Based on these relationships, the methods evaluating the constrained modulus from CPT and DMT results are suggested. It is shown that the prediction method by CPT underestimates the constrained modulus of improved ground, whereas the prediction method by DMT is suitable for evaluating the constrained modulus of improved and unimproved ground.

  • Compression stress block used to concrete structure design substitutes equivalent triangle, rectangle, trapezoid and parabola-rectangle stress block for actual concrete stress distribution. Its shape is different in design code of the major advanced countries. It reflects the material feature of each of country. Presently, compression stress block of korea concrete design code is equal to it of ACI code that doesn't reflect the material feature of the high strength concrete. So, many research conclusions showed that it is not reasonable. The study compares concrete stress blocks of the major advanced countries and does an experiment on concrete compression stress block to know the material feature of the concrete in korea. It obtains the operating load and the concrete strain in experiment and draw stress block parameters. It compares stress block parameters applied to design code with those by the experiment conclusion. In addition, It compares and analyses nominal axial force-moment diagram by the stress block of the major advanced countries.

  • In this paper, effects of the acidification of ground and the chemical additive materials-ferric oxide, calcium chloride and calcium sulphate on the compressibility characteristics of the marine clay treated with quick lime were investigated. The rapid inflection point method was carried out. Results showed that the compression index of the untreated marine clay increased as the pH of pore water decreased. Also, the preconsolidation pressure, the coefficient of consolidation and the coefficient of permeability of the untreated marine clay decreased with pH of pore water. In the case of the marine clay treated with the quick lime-calcium chloride, the compression index decreased and the coefficient of consolidation and the coefficient of permeability increased. Specially, the preconsolidation pressure of sample treated with the quick lime-ferric oxide was higher than that of another samples.

  • This paper presents experimental investigations about compressive strength and durability of reinforced concrete compressive members repaired using ductile fiber reinforced cementitious composite (DFRCC) and carbon fiber sheet through freezing and thawing test. Total 24 RC specimens of 100x100x400mm size were tested by compressive strength test and freezing and thawing test by KS F 2456. The specimens were reinforced using 4D10 steels and repaired on 4 sides expect on top cycle. Test results showed that the specimens repaired using fiber carbon sheet revealed about 5% higher values of the compressive strength compared than the cases of DFRCC motar. On the other hand, the resurts did not showed meaningful differences in the aspect of durability. For further research, considerations of the steel interference effect and real old specimens such as taken from real deteriorated structures are needed to be tested after repairing with DFRCC and carbon fiber sheet.

  • The diffusion of Sr-85, Cs-137, Co-60 and Am-241 in compacted domestic bentonite was studied, using a diffusion cell unit in which diffusion took place axially from the center of cylindrical bentonite sample body. The effects of compaction density and heat-treated bentonite on diffusion were analysed. And the diffusion mechanism of radionuclide was also analysed by evaluating the measured diffusivity of anion Cl-36. The apparent diffusivities obtained for Sr-85, Cs-137, Co-60 and Am-241 were $l.07{\times}10^{-11},\;6.705{\times}10^{-13},\;l.226{\times}10^{-13}\;and\; l.310{\times}10^{-14}m^2/sec$, respectively. When the as-pressed density of bentonite increased from $1.8\;to\;2.0g/cm^3$, the apparent diffusivity of Cs-137 decreased by quarter. In the case of bentonite heat-treated to $150^{\circ}C$, no significant change in diffusivity was observed, which showed the possibility that the domestic bentonite could be used as a chemical barrier to retard the radionuclide migration at below $150^{\circ}C$. From the calculated pore and surface diffusivity, the surface diffusion due to the concentration gradient of radionuclide sorbed on the solid phase was found to dominate greatly in total transport process.

  • In this research, the value of consolidation index was investigated. The range of the investigated standard deviation was analyzed and the deviation based settlement was calculated. Also, the compression index, which is the effect of the uncertainty in the ground was analyzed using the flimsy ground construction method. The settlement behavior in each embankment compaction stage was analyzed by applying the precompression load method, drainage expediting method, and displacement method through numerical analysis. In addition to the above, the settlement behavior was studied by analyzing the Piled Raft method which is stable for long term settlement. As a result, the final settlement amount based on average analysis results was that the settlement based on each of the average interpretation value, mean value of the maximum and minimum value and average compression index was different. The result of the comparison shows the difference in variation coefficient by the difference in time. Amongst them, the Piled Raft method shows the most consistent variation coefficient regardless of time and it also was least affected by the compression index of uncertainty.

  • This paper proposes a fractal compression method using the domain classification and local searching, which utilize DCT coefficient characteristic Generally, the fractal Image encoding method has a time consuming process to search a domain to be matched with range block In order to reduce computation complexity, the domain and range regions are respectively classified into 4 category by using the characteristics of DCT coefficients and each range region is encoded by a method suitable for the property of its category Since the bit amount of the compressed image depends on the number of range blocks, the matching of domain block and range block is induced on the large range block by using local search, so that compression ratio is increased by reducing the number of range block In the local search, the searching complexity is reduced by determining the direction and distance of searching using the characteristics of DCT coefficients The experimental results shows that the proposed algorithm have 1 dB higher PSNR and 0 806 higher compression ratio than previous algorithm.

  • In this paper, a 40 dimensional segment vector with 4 frame and 7 frame width in every monosyllable interval was compressed into a 10, 14, 20 dimensional vector using K-L expansion and neural networks, and these was used to speech recognition feature parameter for CHMM. And we also compared them with CHMM added as feature parameter to the discrete duration time, the regression coefficients and the mixture distribution. In recognition test at 100 monosyllable, recognition rates of CHMM +${\bigtriangleup}$MCEP, CHMM +MIX and CHMM +DD respectively improve 1.4%, 2.36% and 2.78% over 85.19% of CHMM. And those using vector compressed by K-L expansion are less than MCEP + ${\bigtriangleup}$MCEP but those using K-L + MCEP, K-L + ${\bigtriangleup}$MCEP are almost same. Neural networks reflect more the speech dynamic variety than K-L expansion because they use the sigmoid function for the non-linear transform. Recognition rates using vector compressed by neural networks are higher than those using of K-L expansion and other methods.

  • In case the coefficient set of an FIR filter is represented in the canonic signed digit (CSD) format with a few nonzero digits, it is possible to implement high data rate digital filters with low hardware cost. Designing an FIR filter with CSD format coefficients, whose number of nonzero signed digits is minimal, is equivalent to finding sparse nonzero signed digits in the coefficient set of the filter which satisfies the target frequency response with minimal maximum error. In this paper, a compressive sensing based CSD coefficient FIR filter design algorithm is proposed for multiplierless and high speed implementation. Design examples show that multiplierless FIR filters can be designed using less than two additions per tap on average with approximate frequency response to the target, which are suitable for high speed filtering applications.

  • The compressive and dynamic properties of magnetorheological elastomers were investigated as functions of magnetizable particle volume fraction, alignment of the embedded particle and magnetic force. The specimens consisted of pure and filled silicons with randomly dispersed, longitudinal and transverse aligned magnetizable particle chains. To align the embedded particles in the elastomer, the cross-linking of the elastomer composites took place in a magnetic field. The compression and dynamic tests in the absence and the presence of different magnetic forces were carried out. The modulus and loss factor of the elastomer composites increase with increasing volume fraction at the same magnetic force. The case of longitudinal alignment shows a high modulus and loss factor when compared to the case of transverse alignment or random dispersion.
