Analysis microstructure and mechanical properties of AlCr-based cutting tool coatings (AlCr계 절삭공구 코팅의 미세조직 및 우수한 기계적 물성 분석)

  • 최근 절삭공구산업은 자동차, 항공기, IT, 선박, 에너지 등 첨단산업의 증가로 인해 CGI, CFRP, 내열합금 등 난삭재의 수요가 증가하고 있다. 난삭재는 고내열, 고경도, 초경량 같은 특성을 지니며 우수한 기계적 물성을 갖지만 가공의 어려움이 있어 산업에 적용하는데 한계가 있다. 이러한 한계를 극복하기 위해 개발된 가공기술 중 하드 코팅은 공구코팅비용 대비 공구의 표면경도와 수명을 효율적으로 향상시킬 수 있다고 알려져 있다. 대표적인 하드코팅으로는 AlN계, TiN계 코팅이 있다. 이러한 코팅의 경우 높은 기계적 물성과 우수한 내마모성으로 인해 절삭공구의 성능을 향상시킬 수 있기 때문에, 많은 연구가 진행되고 있으며 절삭공구산업에서 각광받고 있다. 기존 선행연구 결과에 따르면 질화물 코팅의 우수한 물성은 질화물(Nitride) 생성 및 질화 공정에 의한 코팅층의 고밀도화에 의해 나타난다고 알려져 있다. 그 중에서 AlCrN coating은 우수한 내마모성 및 향상된 고온경도를 갖고 있다. AlCrN based coating에 미량의 원소를 첨가하여 기존 AlCrN coating의 기계적 특성을 더욱 향상 시킨 coating은 일반적인 고성능 코팅 대비 공구수명이 길다고 알려져 있으며, 전반적으로 우수한 특성에 의해 전 세계적으로 습식 및 건식 기계 가공 용도로 사용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 AlCrN based coating에 미량의 원소를 첨가한 coating의 우수한 기계적 특성의 원인을 규명하기 위해 텅스텐카바이드(WC) 기판 위에 아크 이온 플레이팅 장비를 이용하여 AlCrN based coating을 증착 시킨 sample을 분석하였다. 결정구조 및 상 분석을 위해 X선 회절분석(XRD)을 실시하였으며, 미세 구조를 분석하기 위해 전계방출형 주사전자현미경(FE-SEM), 투과 전자현미경(TEM) 분석을 실시하였다. 또한 코팅층의 화학적 성분 분석을 위해 EDX분석을 실시하였으며 기계적 특성 평가를 위해 나노압입시험(Nano-indentation test)을 진행하였다.

  • In this study, Anchor Pile Precast Retaining Wall (APC) with screw shape flange was investigated and the results were arranged for designing APC specifications. Since precast materials require special care when they are manufactured, carried or treated, more accurate design and analysis of optimized dimension are needed : thus moment distribution of front foot was checked. Through full-scale field test, form and optimal stiffening shape were obtained and through fracture test with real load, applicable load was reasonably calculated. Research result in this thesis could be used as guideline or standard of designing and constructing Anchor Pile Precast Retaining Wall with screw shape flange.

Forensic Engineering Study on Assessment of Damage to Aerial Lifter Parts (고소작업차 부품 손상 평가에 관한 법공학적 연구)

  • Forensic engineering is the area of expertise of people qualified to serve as engineering experts in courts of law or during arbitration proceedings. An aerial-lifter can lift and carry load, including people, using power. Recently, failure of aerial-lifter internal parts while working and sweeping causing injuries and damage to property almost always generates conflict between the automaker and customer. Hence, the investigation of such events generally involves an engineering analysis. One of the possible reasons for accidents, such as a vehicle catching fire is the failure of oil pressure machine and the supporting pin. The results of formal inspections and engineering tests can reveal the cause for the failure of the mechanical parts. Therefore, the failure mechanism is analyzed by adopting fractography methods and by applying an instrumented indentation technique to compare the material properties of the reference part with those of the malfunctioning part.

  • Shield method is the tunnel boring method that propels a steel cylinder in the ground and excavates tunnels at once. After Marc Isambard Brunel started using the method for the Thames Riverbed Tunnel excavation in London, many kinds of TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) developed and applied for the construction of road, railway, electricity channel, pipeline, etc. In comparison with NATM concept that allows to observe ground condition and copes with difficulty. The machine selected before starting construction is not able to be changed during construction in shield TBM. Therefore the machine should be designed based on the ground survey result and experiment, so that the tunnel might be excavated effectively by controlling penetration speed, excavation depth and cutter head speed according to the ground condition change. This research was conducted to estimate penetration depth, excavate speed, wear of disc cutter on Boondang Railway of the Han Riverbed Tunnel ground condition by TBM performance prediction models such as NTNU, $Q_{TBM}$, Total Hardness, KICT-SNU and compare the estimated value with the field data. The estimation method is also used to analyze the reason of poor excavation efficiency at south bound tunnel.

  • Ti and Ti alloys are used in the automobile and aerospace industries due to their high specific strength and excellent corrosion resistance. However their application is limited due to poor formability at room temperature and high unit cost. In order to overcome these issues, dissimilarly jointed materials, such as cladding materials, are widely investigated to utilize them in each industrial field because of an enhanced plasticity and relatively low cost. Among various dissimilar bonding processes, the rolled cladding process is widely used in Ti alloys, but has a disadvantage of low bonding strength. Although this problem can be solved through post-heat treatment, the mechanical properties at the bonded interface are deteriorated due to residual stress generated during post-heat treatment. Therefore, in this study, the microstructure change and residual stress trends at the interfaces of Ti/Al cladding materials were studied with increasing post-heat treatment temperature. As a result, compared to the as-rolled specimens, no difference in microstructure was observed in the specimens after postheat treatment at 300, 400, and 500℃. However, a new intermetallic compound layer was formed between Ti and Al when post-heat treatment was performed at a temperature of 600℃ or higher. Then, it was also confirmed that compressive residual stress with a large deviation was formed in Ti due to the difference in thermal expansion coefficient and modulus of elasticity between Ti Grade II and Al 1050.

Study on the Hardness Measurement of Earthenware : Focusing on the Cup of the Baekje (토기의 경도측정법 연구: 백제시대 배(杯)류를 중심으로)

  • We have investigated the suitable measuring method and condition on the hardness testing for the earthenwares excavated from Poongnap mud castle in Hanseong Baekje period. The earthenwares which used on hardness testing have been classified according to Mohs hardness and external form and color. The Ultrasonic and Equotip testing method have used to the hardness testing on the surface of the earthenwares and the Rockwell and Micro-vickers testing methods have used to the hardness testing on the cross section of the earthenwares. As the results, the two methods applied to the surface of the earthenwares were very hard on the precise measurement and the measuring values were incompatible with the tendency classified according to Mohs hardness and external form and color. On the testing for the cross section of earthenware, the Rockwell-superficial hardness testing method was more suitable for the soft texture earthenware and highest reproducibility of the measuring value obtained at the test load and indentor are 15kgf and 1/16 “iron ball, respectively. The Micro-Vickers hardness testing method was suitable for the hard texture earthenware and highest reproducibility and accuracy of the measuring value obtained at the test load is 100gf. This results show strong possibility of progress on the classifying and comparing study for hardness of the earthenware and therefore active studies are expected on the field.

Development of penetration rate model and optimum operational conditions of shield TBM for electricity transmission tunnels (터널식 전력구를 위한 순굴진율 모델 개발 및 이를 활용한 쉴드TBM 최적운전 조건 제안)

  • About 5 km length of tunnels were constructed by mechanized tunnelling method using closed type shield TBM. In order to avoid construction delay problems for ensuring timely electricity transmission, it is necessary to increase the prediction accuracy of the excavation process involving machines according to rock mass types. This is important to corroborate the project duration and optimum operation for various considerations involved in the machine. So, full-scale tunnelling tests were performed for developing the advance rate model to be appropriately used for 3.6 m diameter shield TBM. About 100 test cases were established and performed using various operational parameters such as thrust force and rotational speed of cuttterhead in representative uniaxial compressive strengths. Accordingly, relationships between normal force and penetration depth and, between UCS and torque were suggested which consider UCS and thrust force conditions according to weathered, soft, hard rocks. Capacity analysis of cutterhead was performed and optimum operational conditions were also suggested based on the developed model. Based on this study, it can be expected that the project construction duration can be reduced and users can benefit from the provision of earlier service.

Characterization of Crack Healing of Si3N4 Ceramic Structures According to Crack Length and Coating Methods (균열 길이와 코팅방법에 따른 Si3N4의 균열 치유 특성)

  • In this study, we analyzed the crack-healing characteristics of specimens; different crack lengths and coating methods of $Si_3N_4$ ceramic structures with long cracks were analyzed. Cracks with lengths of about $100-500\;{\mu}m$ were obtained using a Vickers indenter for a load of 24.5-98 N. In the case of a crack obtained by applying a load of 24.5 N, the crack-healed specimen with $SiO_2$ nanocolloid coating exhibited the highest bending strength, which was higher than that of a smooth specimen by 140%, but the bending strength of a crack-healed specimen that had a $SiO_2$ nanocolloid coating and originally had multiple cracks was lower than that of a smooth specimen. However, when compared to the cracked specimens, the bending strength of most specimens with multiple cracks increased slightly. On the basis of these results, the crack-healing characteristics of $Si_3N_4$ ceramic structures with multiple indentations were studied for different coating methods. The most effective coating method for long-crack specimens was hydrostatic pressure coating.

MICROHARDNESS AND SURFACE ROUGHNESS OF SEALANT AND FLOWABLE COMPOSITE RESINS (치면열구전색제와 유동성 복합 레진의 미세 경도 및 표면 조도의 비교)

  • This study was performed to compare the wear resistance of sealant and flowable resins for analyzing the effect of flowable resin as a sealant in preventive resin restorations. Specimens were made and Vicker's hardness number and surface roughness were measured. SEM observations of the polished and abraded surfaces were established. Kruskal-Wallis rank test and Mann-Whitney U test at the significant level of ${\alpha}$=0.05 were used. The following results were obtained: 1. The microhardness was decreased among groups in following order: Z350 (3M ESPE, U.S.A), Estelite (Tokuyama Dental, Japan) and Ultraseal (Ultradent, U.S.A). There were significant differences in all groups (p<0.0001). 2. The surface roughness was decreased among groups in following order: Ultraseal XT plus, Palfique Estelite LV and Filtek Z350 flowable. However, there is no statistically significant differences in roughness among Estellite, Z350 and Ultraseal at the significance level of ${\alpha}$=0.05, with p=0.116 3. SEM observation of the unworn and worn surfaces revealed the qualitative differences in the wear appearance among groups. The results in this study indicate that flowable resin is better than sealant in aspect of physical properties.
