This study examined the long-term behavior of a roadbed using high-speed railway concrete track and roadbed measurement data and evaluated the long-term performance of the track and roadbed. Recently, high-speed railway track type has been adopted as a concrete slab. On the other hand, the concrete track is vulnerable to roadbed settlement. In the case of gravel tracks, it is easy to restore the original state by maintenance even if the roadbed settles. On the other hand, in the case of the concrete track, if excessive settlement of the roadbed occurs, cracks are generated continuously on the slabs and sleepers, resulting in greatly reduced usability. For this reason, it is difficult to restore the original state only by partial maintenance. In this paper, a long-term performance evaluation was carried out on a concrete track during operation by monitoring the measurement data of sensors buried from the beginning of construction for approximately 3 years after the high-speed railway opened. Performance evaluation methods include a performance evaluation of track/roadbed when the train passes, long-term track and roadbed performance evaluation, analysis of the track/roadbed effect on long-term settlement and analysis of the factors influencing long-term settlement. The trail response of KTX-Sancheon was greatest in the track/roadbed performance evaluation by train. The results of the long-term track and roadbed performance evaluation were measured within the standard values. The track and roadbed performance impact assessment with long-term settlement was strongly related to TCL settlement. The influences of the water content and groundwater level were verified by analyzing the external factors of long-term settlement. Through such a method, the stability of a track/roadbed can be secured.
The geology of the talc ore deposits in the Chungju area consists of the Kyemyeongsan Formation, the Munjuri Formation, the Daehyangsan Quartzite, the Hyangsanni Dolomite, and the basic rocks of the Ogcheon belt. The talc ore occurs in the Hyangsanni Dolomite near the Daehyangsan Quartzite The mineral assemblages in the Hyangsanni Dolomite are \circled1calcite-tremolite-talc-quartz, \circled2calcite-talc-quartz, \circled3tremolite-calcite-dolomite, and \circled4calcite-dolomite-phlogopite-chlorite. Talc has almost the ideal composition($X_{Mg}$=Mg/(Fe+Mg)=0.98). Talc was formed in siliceous dolomite by the medium-pressure type regional metamorphism. The evidences for contact metamorphism and/or hydrothermal reaction are not clear. The metamorphic grade of the Hyangsanni Dolomite and its adjacent pelitic or basic rocks near the deposits corresponds to epidote-amphibolite facies or greenschist facies based on the, mineral assemblages of \circled1hornblendebiotite-muscovite-epidote-quartz \circled2biotite-chlorite-quartz, and \circled3hornblende-actinolite-plagioclasequartz. The formation of the talc deposits were caused by the following reactions due to greenschist facies metamorphism of siliceous-dolomitic rocks in the Hyansanni Dolomite. (I) 3 dolomite+4 quartz+$H_2O$= talc+ 3 calcite +3 $CO_2$; (11) 3 tremolite+ 2 $H_2O$+ 6 $CO_2$= 5 talc+ 6 calcite + 4 quartz. The minimum temperature of the talc-tremolite-quartz assemblage is about $434^{\circ}C$ from calcite thermometry and the carbon dioxide mole fraction in metamorphic fulid($X_{$CO_2$}$) is about 0.1 at assumed pressure, 3 kbar.
For several years lots of attempts have been made to establish the liquid membrane-based techniques for separations of gas mixtures especially containing carbon dioxide. A more effective system to separate $CO_{2}$ from flue gases, a circulatory hollow-fiber membrane absorber(HFMA) consisting of absorption and desorption modules with vacuum mode, has been considered in this study. Gas-liquid mass transfer has been modeled on a membrane module with non-wetted hollow-fibers in the laminar flow regime. The influence of an absorbent flow rate on the separation performance of the circulatory HFMA can be predicted quantitatively by obtaining the $CO_{2}$ concentration profile in a tube side. The system of $CO_{2}/N_{2}$ binary gas mixture has been studied using pure water as an(inert) absorbent. As the absorbent flow rate is increased, the permeation flux(i.e., defined as permeation rate/membrane contact area) also increases. The enhanced selectivity compared to the previous results, on the other hand, shows the decreasing behavior. It has been found obviously that the permeation flux depends on the variations of pressure in gas phase of desorption module. From an accurate comparison with the results of conventional flat sheet membrane module, the advantageous permeability of this circulatory HFMA can be clearly ascertained as expected. Our efforts to the theoretical model will provide the basic analysis on the circulatory HFMA technique for a better design and process.

In the design conditions of some research reactors, the siphon phenomenon can cause continuous efflux of water during pipe rupture. A siphon breaker is a safety device that can prevent water efflux effectively. However, the analysis of the siphon breaking is complicated because many variables must be included in the calculation process. For this reason, a simulation program was developed with a user-friendly GUI to analyze the siphon breaking easily. The program was developed by MFC programming using Visual Studio 2012 in Windows 8. After saving the input parameters from a user, the program proceeds with three steps of calculation using fluid mechanics formulas. Bernoulli's equation is used to calculate the velocity, quantity, water level, undershooting, pressure, loss coefficient, and factors related to the two-phase flow. The Chisholm model is used to predict the results from a real-scale experiment. The simulation results are shown in a graph, through which a user can examine the total breaking situation. It is also possible to save all of the resulting data. The program allows a user to easily confirm the status of the siphon breaking and would be helpful in the design of siphon breakers.
A methodology has been presented for evaluating the partial safety factors on the sliding failure mode of vertical caissons of composite breakwaters and for determining the cross sections of those by Level I reliability-based design method. Especially, a mathematical model has been suggested for the sake of a consistency of code format as well as convenience of application in practical design, for which the uncertainties associated with buoyancy and its own weight can be taken into account straightforwardly. Furthermore, design criteria equation has been derived by considering accurately the effect of uplift pressure, so that the cross sections of caissons can be assessed which must be safe against the sliding failure. It has been found that cross sections estimated from partial safety factors proposed in this paper are in very good agreement with the results of Level II AFDA and Level III MCS under the same target probability of failure. However, partial safety factors of the Technical Standards and Commentaries for Port and Harbour Facilities in Japan and Coastal Engineering Manual in USA tend to estimate much bigger or smaller cross sections in comparison to the present results. Finally, many reliability re-analyses have been performed in order to conform whether the stability level of cross section estimated by Level I reliability-based design method is satisfied with the target probability of failure of partial safety factors or not.

Science career education is for every student as well as for students who want to become scientists. In this study, we developed and applied science career education materials using TV programs which showed successful application of science in industry and business. The effects of the programs were surveyed mainly by questionnaire on 'Science Career Orientation', which have four categories.Video materials using TV programs were effective in changing science career orientation (p<0.05) of junior high school students, but only when the teacher added some cognitive explanation on the scientific concept involved. Providing only video materials were not enough to make meaningful change on science career orientation. The results implied science career education should be linked with science teaching and learning. It also showed the possibility and the way of using informal education like TV program in science career education.
The variation of Na(A), K, Na(M4), A l O and Al(VI)+Fe3++Ti+Cr in the zonal amphiboles from the amphibolites of the Hwanggangri area indicates that the tschermakite-, edenite- and glaucophane substitutions are higher in the rim than in the core, in which actinolite changes to hornblende with going outward from core to rim. The contents of substitutional elements of hornblende~ of three samples@l29-2, M76-2, M78), which include diopside and greenish brown hornblende and are thought to represent the highest metamorphic grade, are lower than those of rim homblendes of the lower metamorphic grade and are higher than those of core actinolite that they conform to the middle domain in those of the whole amphiboles. Considerations about the origin of zonal amphiboles are as follows. Firstly, two samples(R102-1, R210-9) have the same amphibole composition like core is actinolitic hornblende, and rim is magnesian hastingsite although plagioclases such as albite(R102-1) and labradorite (R210-9) show the wide compositional difference. It is impossible to produce both albite and labradorite by one metamorphic event. Judging from this wide compositional difference, the existence of zonal amphiboles does not indicate the miscibility gap but is thought to be the result of the polymetamorphism. Secondly, the crystallographically sharp and gradational interfaces between actinolite and hornblende fonned in the amphibolites rgardless of the distance from the granite. In case of the samples(R210-9, M128, M130) having the sharp interface between two amphiboles, the plagioclase show the compositions produced at the low grade and the medium grade. Because such variable compositions of plagioclase indicates the overprinting of metamorphism of higher metamorphic grade than that of the formation of miscibility gap, it implies that zonal amphiboles were formed by polymetarnorphism. In case of the gradational interface between two amphiboles, this texture is also thought to be the effect of polymetamorphism from the fact that this texture mainly occur near the granite and from the consideration of the metamporphic grade. The relationship between the compositional variations of the amphiboles and the pressure types of metamorphism suggests that actinolitic core is considered to be grown by the metamorphism of medium pressure, while hornblende rim is shown to have genetic relations with the metamorphism of low pressure type.
