A Fundamental Study on Lower Duct Flow of passive anti-rolling tanks System (수동형 감요수조의 하부덕트 유동에 관한 기초연구)

  • Anti-Roll Tanks, also called Sloshing Tanks, is a rather common and sometimes an efficient method of limiting the roll angles. The important parameters, when considering using anti-roll tanks, are positioning, size, duct area, flow control device etc. Measurement by the PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry) was conducted to investigate the flow characteristics around control damper and inlet area of duct for three kind of inclined angle $(\alpha=0^*,\;10^*\;and\;20^*)$. Flow behaviors such as instantaneous and time-mean velocity vectors are investigated. Furthermore, to reveal boundaries between flowing and stagnant zones and to extract velocity profiles at any selected sections of the lower duct for passive anti-rolling tanks system.

  • High-speed trains have been developed widely in European countries and Japan in order to transport large quantity of people and commodities in short time. Additionally, a high speed train is one of the most desirable and environmentally friendly transportation methods. When a high speed train enters a tunnel, aerodynamic resistance is generated suddenly. This resistance causes micro pressure wave and discomfort to passengers. Due to this aerodynamic pressure against the train, a large amount of traction is required for the operation of a train in a tunnel. Therefore, it is essential to incorporate a pressure relief system in a tunnel in order to reduce aerodynamic resistance caused by a high-speed train. A pressure relief duct and a vertical shaft are representative measures in a tunnel. This study represents the effect of pressure relief ducts in order to alleviate positive and negative normal pressures acting on a train. One-dimensional numerical simulations were carried out in order to estimate the effect of pressure relief systems.

When a high speed train enters a tunnel, aerodynamic resistance is generated suddenly. The resistance caused from air pressure induces micro pressure wave and discomfort to passengers in a train. Therefore, a pressure relief system should be installed in a tunnel to reduce the resistance acting against the running train in a tunnel. Additionally, the shape of a grain should be streamlined in order to reduce aerodynamic resistance caused by a high-speed train. The cross-section of a tunnel also should be carefully designed to reduce discomfort of passengers. This study represents the effect of pressure relief ducts installed between two running tunnels. The pressure relief duct was integrated with a cross-passage in order to save cost and construction time. One-dimensional network numerical simulations were carried out in order to estimate the effect of pressure relief systems.

On the Pressurization for Smoke Control in Building Fires (건물화재에서의 가압방연 설계에 관한 연구)

  • This paper deals with the lobby pressurization for smoke control in building fires. A computer program and related modeling technique are presented. The pressure difference between a lobby and a fire area is not able to be same among building floors because an injection fan can not be installed in each floor. The most remote area from the injection fan has therefore the smallest pressure difference if flow areas are not different through all floors. An adjacent floor from the injection fan has possibly too large pressure difference because the most remote lobby must also meet the required pressure difference over the fire area. Moreover this problem will lead to a larger capacity of the fan. It is showed that the fan capacity can be decreased by adjusting the flow area of air supply duct in each floor.

  • Exhaust system used in toilet and cooking place of high riser public house is roof fan of two basic types : natural roof ventilator and natural/forced roof ventilator. Natural/forced roof ventilator has a motor in the rotary shaft. There are many high riser public house in Korea. These buildings were not viewed as being major contributors to exhaust pollutants producted in indoor. It was because many engineers thought that exhaust in high riser building depend on stack effect. This study investigates on stack pressure determined by exterior pressure and the difference pressure control in exhaust stack used in high riser public house. This paper focuses mainly on the effect of the time interval for power supply of motor installed in roof fan with function of natural wind velocity and of exhaust air volume of toilet. It is observed there are higher exhaust efficiency than the existing natural roof ventilator.

Pressure Recovery in a Supersonic Ejector of a High Altitude Turbofan Engine Testing Chamber (터보팬 엔진의 고고도 성능의 초음속 이젝터의 압력회복에 관한 연구)

  • This research aims in finding a more optimal ejector size for evacuating engine exhaust gasses and 20% of the cell cooling air. The remaining 80% of cell cooling air pumped into the test chamber is separately exhausted from the test chamber via a discharge port fitted with flow control valves and vacuum pump. Unlike its predecessor this configuration utilizes a smaller capture area to improve pressure recovery. The modified ejector size has a diameter of 1100mm enough to evacuate 66kg/s jet engine exhaust in addition to about 20%, 24kg/s of the cell cooling air tapped from the sterling chamber. This configurations has an area ratio of the engine exit and ejector inlet of about 1.2. Simulation results of the proposed ejector configuration, indicates improved pressure recovery.

이온빔 식각을 통한 저마찰용 표면 구조 제어 연구

  • 최근 자연모사를 통한 초저마찰 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있으며 리소그라피, 레이져 가공법 등의 다양한 방법을 통해 표면구조 제어가 시도되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 자장여과 아크 플라즈마 이온 소스를 이용한 WC-Co 및 SCM 415 금속소재의 표면구조 형상제어를 통해 저마찰 특성을 시도하였다. 자장여과 아크 소스는 90도 꺽힘형이며 5개의 자장 코일을 통해 아크 음극에서 발생된 고밀도($10^{13}\;cm^{-3}$ 이상) 플라즈마를 표면처리 대상 기판까지 확산시켰다. 공정 압력은 알곤가스 1 mTorr, 아크 방전 전류는 25 A, 플라즈마 수송 덕트 전압은 10 V이다. 기판 전압은 비대칭 펄스 (-80 %/+5 %)로 -600 V에서 -800 V까지 인가되었으며 -600 V 비대칭 펄스 인가시기판으로 입사하는 알곤 이온 전류 밀도는 약 $4.5\;mA/cm^2$ 이다. WC-Co 시편의 경우 -600 V 전압 인가시, 이온빔 처리 전 46.4 nm(${\pm}12.7\;nm$)의 조도를 갖는 시편이 5분, 10분, 20분동안 이온빔 처리함에 따라 72.8 nm(${\pm}3\;nm$), 108.2 nm(${\pm}5.9\;nm$), 257.8 nm(${\pm}24.4\;nm$)의 조도를 나타내었다. SCM415 시편의 경우 -800 V 인가시, 이온빔 처리 전 20.4 nm(${\pm}2.9\;nm$)의 조도를 갖는 시편이 20분동안 이온빔 처리함에 따라 275.1 nm(${\pm}43\;nm$)의 조도를 나타내었다. 또한 주사전자현미경을 통한 표면 형상 관찰 결과, 이온빔 식각을 통해 생성된 거친 표면에 $3-5\;{\mu}m$ 직경의 돌기들이 산발적으로 생성됨을 확인했다. 마찰계수 측정 결과 SCM415 시편의 경우, 이온빔 처리전 마찰계수 0.65에서 조도 275.1 nm 시편의 경우 0.48로 감소하였다. 본 연구를 통해 이온빔 식각을 이용한 금속표면 제어 및 저마찰 특성 향상의 가능성을 확인하였다.

  • Shape memory alloys (SMA) are often used in smart structures as active components. Their ability to provide large recovery forces and displacements has been useful in many applications, including devices for artificial muscles, active structural acoustic control, and shape control. Based on the 3-dimensional SMA constitutive equation in this paper, the radial displacement control of externally pressurized circular and semicircular composite cylinders under external pressure with a thin SMA layer bonded on its inner surface or inserted between composite layers in investigated using 3-dimensional finite element analysis. Upon actuation through resistive heating, SMAs start to transform from martensitic into austenitic state, simultaneously recover the prestrain, and thus cause the composite cylinders to go back to their original shapes of the cylinder cross-sections.
