  • The influence of the inlet pressure on bearing performance of tilting pad bearings in laminar regime is examined. A simple flow model is presented to calculate the inlet pressure in inlet flow that occurs at a short distance ahead of the bearing inlet. The bearing performances are obtained, load capacity, friction torque and lubricated flow-rate, etc, numerically for the inlet pressure boundary conditions with and without pressure jump. The computed results of both cases show that bearing performance and the optimum pivot position changes remarkably according to the bearing operating conditions. The influence of the inlet pressure on bearing performance must be considered to analyze the bearing performance precisely.

  • Various cooling techniques have been applied to the gas turbine blade in order to reduce heat load to the blade. On the blade surface, film cooling method is used and the accurate information of film cooling effectiveness should be evaluated in order to predict the exact temperature distribution in the blade. In this study, pressure sensitive paint (PSP) was used to measure the film cooling effectiveness on a flat plate. Results showed that PSP technique successfully evaluated the distribution of film cooling effectiveness. Three blowing ratios of 0.5, 1, and 2 were tested and the film cooling effectiveness near holes decreased as the blowing ratio increased, however, increased far downstream from the holes.

  • Pressure coefficient in a rotating discharge hole was measured to gain insight into the influence of rotation on the discharge characteristics of rotating discharge holes. Pressures inside the hole were measured by a telemetry system that had been developed by the authors. The telemetry system is characterized by the diversity of applicable sensor type. In the present study, the telemetry system was modified to measure static pressure using piezoresistive pressure sensors. The pressure sensor is affected by centrifugal force and change of orientation relative to the gravity. The orientation of sensor installation for minimum rotating effect and zero gravity effect was found out from the test. Pressure coefficients in a rotating discharge hole were measured in longitudinal direction as well as circumferential direction at various rotating speeds and three different pressure ratios. From the results, the behaviors of pressure coefficient that cannot be observed by a non-rotating setup were presented. It was also shown that the discharge characteristics of rotating discharge hole is much more influenced by the Rotation number irrespective of pressure ratio.

  • The present paper describes the optimum inverse design of 2-D linear cascade airfoil. The pressure coefficient of an airfoil surface is taken as the objective function, and non-orthogonal incompressible Navier-Stokes equation is applied to calculate the pressure coefficient. Both of steepest descent and conjugate gradient method have been used to make the objective function go to zero. The 1st order finite differential method is applied to the searching direction and the golden section method is used to compute the searching distance. As a result of the present work, a good convergence to the target airfoil has been obtained.

  • Full scale HDR containment experiment series pointed out that the previous containment analysis models have a number of shortcomings. One of them is on the calculational model of short term (0~2sec) pressure difference. The pressure differences between subcompartments are dependent on the flow rate, fluid density, head loss coefficient, and flow area ratio. It, however, is not known that any of them is largely attributed to the disagreement of pressure difference between the measured and the calculated values. In this study, the head loss coefficients are expressed with another form to improve the analytic model. The pressure and the pressure difference are evaluated by using COMPARE code with new correlation, and the results show better agreements with experimental values for V.42 test, but overestimate the measured values for V, 43 and underestimate for V.44.

  • Among various mass transfer models to express adsorption rates for any adsorption processes, the linear driving force (LDF) model is used most. The present investigation aims at finding whether this model may be applied to real adsorption process for separation and removal of benzene. Comparison of numerical simulation results calculated by the LDF model with experimental data allowed us to find the mass transfer coefficients that are most appropriate for a specific adsorption process. Various breakthrough curves were obtained from experiments performed at many different temperatures and pressures, which in turn produced suitable mass transfer coefficients. These dependencies of mass transfer coefficient on temperature and pressure were represented by an Arrhenius type- and a power law type empirical equation, respectively.

  • The film cooling effectiveness on a flat plate measured by pressure sensitive paint technique. Six film cooling hole were fabricated on a flat plate with 30 degree angle with respect to the surface and three blowing ratios of 0.5, 1, and 2 were tested. Results showed that PSP technique successfully evaluated the distribution of film cooling effectiveness and showed similar results with references. The film cooling effectiveness near the film cooling holes was higher for lower blowing ratio case. As the blowing ratio was increased, the film cooling effectiveness near the film cooling hole decreased due to the lift off of the coolant. At far downstream, the film cooling effectiveness for higher blowing ratio was higher due to the coolant reattachment.

  • Dependence of saturation energy density and small signal gain coefficient on the active gas pressure in XeCl laser amplifier has been investigated. The saturation energy density was increased almost linearly as 1.3, 1.45, 2.0, and $2.3mJ/\textrm{cm}^2$ when the pressure of Xe and He were 30 and 2000 mb, and the pressure of HC] was varied as 34, 52, 73, and 92 mb. Whereas the small signal gain coefficient was measured to be 6.5, 7.5, 7.0, 7.0 %/cm, which shows that the small signal gain did not varies not so much.o much.

  • This study investigated the effect of deep-sea environment on the compressive characteristics of polymer matrix composite. The specimens used in the experiment were thick Carbon-Epoxy composites that were made from Carbon-Epoxy prepregs. The specimens were immersed into seawater for thirteen months. The seawater content at saturation was about 1.2% of the specimen weight. The hydrostatic pressures applied were 0.1 MPa, 100 MPa, 200 MPa, and 270 MPa. It was found that the compressive elastic modulus increased about 10% as the hydrostatic pressure increased from 0.1 MPa to 200 MPa. The modulus increased additional 2.3% as the pressure increased to 270 MPa. It was also found that compressive fracture strength and compressive fracture strain increased with pressure in a linear behavior. Compressive fracture strength increased 28% and compressive fracture strain increased 8.5% as the hydrostatic pressure increased from 0.1 MPa to 270 MPa.
