  • This study aimed to develop high-efficiency grouting techniques under deep-depth conditions by experimentally verifying the applicability of various injection materials. Particle size analysis and injection model experiments were conducted with Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) and Micro Cement (MC) to evaluate the injection performance of each material. Using Barton's Cubic Network theory, the rock fracture spacing was calculated for domestic deep-depth standards, specifically below 40 meters underground. The analysis of particle size passability under selected conditions showed that MC could pass through the rock fracture gaps, while OPC could not. According to the results of the injection model experiments using experimental devices and area calculation software, OPC failed in injection due to its larger particle size, whereas MC was capable of injection even under high-viscosity conditions. Based on these findings, the study quantitatively and visually derived the applicability of grouting materials under deep-depth conditions, and high-viscosity MC material is expected to be effective for waterproofing enhancement in deep-depth rock fracture surfaces.

  • Grouting materials in rock is grouted as vein type along the fault surface by the other way for soil and allow a change of characteristics in rock faults as a result of that. Therefore the deformation characteristics of rock faults after grouting differ as a direction and characteristic of grouted fault and stress condition of field rock. Thereby it must be analyzed the effect for deformation of rock according to characteristics of rock faults and characteristics of grouting materials to accurately evaluate the reinforced effect by grouting. But grouting method used in field until present depends on experience of workers, and inspection for those effects are evaluated by measurement of elastic wave velocity, permeability tests and etc. in field. In this study, it was investigated that the effects for shear characteristics of maximum shear strength, residual shear strength and etc. by comparison and analysis of test results which were worked by direct shear tests of rock faults with changing a type of grouting materials and the grouting depth(t) for average width(a) of fault surface roughness when OPC(Ordinary Portland Cement) and Micro cement was grouted in fault surface of field rock to evaluate characteristicsof the shear deformation for rock fault surface of dam by grouting.

  • The effectiveness of UAM is generally accepted, but there has not been much rigorous study on UAM and its mechanical support mechanism is yet to be established. Also, most of UAM installations depend on empirical judgement rather than on engineering knowledge. In this study, an attempt to confirm the support effects and to understand the support mechanism of UAM has been made by analyzing the mechanical behavior of umbrella pipes installed in various ground conditions. The effects of overburden thickness, pipe size, overlap length and the placement of steel arch are studied using a three-dimensional finite element method. From the numerical parametric study, the support mechanism of UAM has been confirmed by analyzing the structural forces in the umbrella pipes due to the excavation.

  • Distinct element simulation in jointed rock masses is largely dependent upon the joint constitutive equation used. This paper describes the differences between the Barton-Bandits (BB) and the Mohr-Coulomb (MC) joint constitutive models for the stability analysis of the jointed rock slopes. The BB model, which allows the modelling of the dilation accompanying shear, predicts results very similar to the present condition of slopes. Consequently the 10 cm thick shotcrete was proposed for the reinforcement of those slopes. The MC model, however, in which the dilation angle is constant, is relatively insensitive to the behaviors of joints.

  • A numerical analysis has been conducted to propose the effective installation methods of Micro-pile in a sandy soil or a soil with rock layer. As a result, the bearing capacity of reinforced soil by rigid Micro-pile has influence on a connection state of the tip of pile and surface of rock layer. But that by flexible Micro-pile has more influence on a penetration length of pile than the connection state of the tip of pile and surface of rock layer.

  • Horizontal tunnel face reinforcement using Fiber Glass Tube(FGT) or steel pipe and pipe roofing techniques are frequently used when the stability of newly excavated tunnel is not guaranteed. However, the mechanical behavior of tunnels using these techniques has not been fully understood so far. Therefore, engineering rule of thumb is commonly applied during designing procedure, and it is difficult to adopt these techniques rationally. In this study, the application of a simplified numerical analysis method based on composite mechanics is verified. The mean field theory and the strain energy theory are used to obtain the equivalence elastic moduli of reinforced soil and rock. Furthermore, a parametric study on the deformational behavior of tunnel face is performed for various patterns of prereinforcement.

  • It is studied to select the reinforcement method of an abandoned tunnel which are intersected under the new roadway line. In the various decision makings, the reasonability for the reinforcement method of an abandoned tunnel was estimated using the pair-wise comparison and the fuzzy approximate reasoning to simplify the process of survey research. And there is reflected all the qualitative and quantitative characterizations by investigation items. In order to select the reinforcement method of an abandoned tunnel, 4 characteristic factors of construction, economical efficiency, safety and maintenance were used. Using the simple survey research and pair-wise comparison matrix, the weight of 4 factors was decided. The fuzzy approximate reasoning was used to calculate the quantitative value of each factor And then reflecting each weight to these results, the final reinforcement method of an abandoned tunnel could be determined.

  • There are many slopes generally developed by excavation and cut slope with small steps on massive slopes of roads. Especially these cut slopes which excavating around fault fracture zone need a reinforcement technology in order to ensure safety. In the case of slope excavation, it is difficult to use the existing slope support at fracture zone because of geological characteristics. Especially the factor of safety decreases significantly due to the movement of blocks in bed rocks and the expansion of interspace of discontinuous planes in fractured zones caused by excavation. Thus an efficient reinforcement technique in accordance with geological properties of fracture zones needs to be developed because the existing slope support has a restricted application. Therefore it is necessary to develop the specialized rock bolt technique in order to ensure an efficient factor of safety for anomalous fracture zones in slopes and tunnels. The purpose of this study is to develop newly improved rock bolt to increase a supporting effect of the swellex bolt method used recently as a friction type in fracture zones.
