Volatile Flavor Components in Various Edible Portions of Calystegia japonica $(T_{HUNB})\;C_{HOIS}$. (메꽃의 식용부위별 휘발성 풍미성분)

  • Volatile flavor components from various edible portions of Calystegia japonica $(T_{HUNB})\;C_{HOIS}$ were collected by simultaneous steam distillation-extraction(SDE) method using diethyl ether as solvent. Essential oils were analyzed by gas chromatography(GC) and combined gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS). Thirty nine volatile flavor components, including 21 hydrocarbons, 1 aldehyde, 4 ketones, 7 alcohols, 4 esters, 1 acid and 1 miscellaneous one were confirmed in leaves. Twenty six components, including 16 hydrocarbons, 2 aldehydes, 3 ketones and 5 alcohols were confirmed in stems, and 52 components, including 26 hydrocarbons, 2 aldehydes, 5 ketones, 13 alcohols, 1 ester, 1 acid and 4 miscellaneous ones were confirmed in roots. The kinds and amounts of volatile flavor components revealed different patterns depending upon various edible portions. Relatively greater numbers of volatile flavor components were identified in roots compared with other portions of this wild plant.

  • A study on the solvent extraction of hexavalent chromium from aqueous solutions has been investigated. The results showed that the extraction efficiency of chromium increased in proportion to extractant concentration. Aliquat 336 of quarternary amine effectively extracted hexavalent chromium and was superior to Alamine 336. And the stabilizers like polyhydric alcohols of octanol, decanol and dodecanol showed the similar effect fur prevention of third phase and a little promotion of extraction efficiency in comparison with non-use of polyhydric alcohols. On the other hand, in solvent extraction of hexavalent chromium from aqueous solutions, the hexavalent chromium was completely extracted at pH range lower than 7 with 1% Aliquat 336 as extractant and 5% decanol as stabilizer and the hexavalent chromium in extractant was completely stripped with 1M sodium hydroxide solution in the stripping step.

  • (2S,3R)-3-hydroxyhomoserine lactone (HSL) has been used as a key intermediate for the synthesis of various biologically active compounds. In this study, we demonstrated an efficient synthesis of HSL via anti selective dihydroxylation of a protected vinyl glycine analog with an oxabicyclo[2.2.2]octyl orthoester (OBO) ester group. Because the acyclic conformation of the substrate was efficiently controlled by the bulky OBO ester group, a diastereoselectivity of > 10 : 1 was obtained in the dihydroxylation reaction without the use of a chiral reagent. By using this result, the target compound 1 can be obtained from commercially available N-Cbz-L-serine 2 in seven steps with an overall yeid of 34%. This result could be applied to the stereoselective synthesis of biologically active molecules containing a vicinal amino diol moiety.

  • To develop new functional traditional rice wines using Gugija and Liriope tuber as raw materials, screenings of optimal fungal nuruk and alcohol fermentative yeast for brewing of Gugija-L. tuber traditional rice wine were performed with investigation of optimal fermentation condition. Finally, we selected commercial SJ nuruk and Saccharomyces cerevisiae C-2 as optimal nuruk and yeast for Gugija-L. tuber traditional rice wine. Furthermore, a new antihypertensive and anti-gout Gugija-L. tuber traditional rice wine was produced when 3% of Jangmyong Gugija and L. tuber No.1 were added into cooked rice and then fermented at $25^{\circ}C$ for 5 days with SJ nuruk and S. cerevisiae C-2.

  • The synthesis of hydroxy-terminated poly(propylene carbonate)(HTPPC) was performed by the reaction of propylene carbonate(PC) with alcohol initiator using metal alkoxides, crown ethers and quaternary onium salts as catalysts. The effects of catalyst structure, types and concentration of alcohol, and solvent were investigated. Among the alkoxide catalysts tested, the ones with higher Lewis acidity and with more nucleophilic alkoxide anion showed higher catalytic activity. Mixed catalysts of metal alkoxied and crown ether showed higher conversion of PC than metal alkoxide alone. Quaternary onium salts of bulky cation exhibited higher catalytic activity. High polar solvent showed higher yield of HTPPC and the yield increased with the decrease of [PC]/[Initiator] ratio.

Effects of Synthetic Temperature and Amount of Oleylamine in Synthesis of Cu-Based Nanoparticles Using Heptyl Alcohol Solvent (헵틸알콜 기반의 Cu계 나노입자 합성에서 온도 및 올레일아민 첨가량의 효과)

  • With synthesis temperature and adding amount of oleylamine, nanometer-sized Cu particles were fabricated by heptyl alcohol-based chemical synthesis. The synthetic temperature and amount of oleylamine changed excessively the shape and phase of synthesized nanoparticles. Only cubic-shaped $Cu_2O$ phase was formed at $160^{\circ}C$ regardless of the amount of oleylamine because of imperfect reduction reaction, representing results that the average size of $Cu_2O$ particles decreased with increasing the amount of oleylamine. In the case the synthesis at $170^{\circ}C$, however, nanoparticles of irregular sphere or peanut shapes were synthesized. Moreover, the average size of nanoparticles decreased continuously and gradually with an increase of the amount of oleylamine. According to the size decrease, the synthesized $Cu_2O$ nanoparticles were also transformed into pure Cu nanoparticles.

  • In order to study antibiotic activities of basidomycetes (mushroom), 68 species of mushroom were extracted with petroleum ether, 80% ethanol, and distilled water in that order. A total of 204 extracts were obtained. Antibiotic activities against Microsporum gypseum were observed from the petroleum ether extracts of Abortiporus DGU-L6 mushroom, and the water extracts of Clitogbe DGU-7 mushroom. Antibiotic activity against Aspergillus niger were observed from the 80% ethanol extracts of Cortinarius DGU-51 and Marasmminus DGU-L67 mushroom. The petroleum ether extracts of Hetero DGU-L25 mushroom showed various antibiotic activities, particularly strong activities against M. canis. and the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) was $40\;{\mu}g/ml$. The extracts also showed antibiotic activities against A. niger (KCTC 2025), A. niger (KCTC 2118), A. versicolor (KCTC 2120), A. flavus (KCTC 2117), M. gypsem, Pyricularia oryzae, and Trichopyto mentagrophytes, and MIC for each fungus was $600\;{\mu}g/ml,\;500\;{\mu}g/ml,\;800\;{\mu}g/ml,\;100\;{\mu}g/ml,\;600\;{\mu}g/ml,\;200\;{\mu}g/ml,\;and\;600\;{\mu}g/ml$, respectively.

  • For reducing outer reflection in mono-crystalline silicon solar cell, wet texturing process has been adapted for long period of time. Nowadays mixed solution with potassium hydroxide and isopropyl alcohol is used in silicon surface texturing by most manufacturers. In the process of silicon texturing, etch rate is very critical for effective texturing. Several parameters influence the result of texturing. Most of all, temperature, process time and concentration of potassium hydroxide can be classified as important factors. In this paper, temperature, process time and concentration of potassium hydroxide were set as major parameters and 3-level test matrix was created by using robust design for the optimized condition. The process optimization in terms of lowest reflection and stable etch rate can be traced by using robust design method.

  • In this study, partition coefficients(Kw) of phenoxyethanol in oil-water phase according to type of oils was investigated. Partition coefficients(Kw) were experimented by classified oils that hydrocarbones, fatty alcohols, fatty acids, esters, triglycerides and silicones. It was found that partition coefficients(Kw) of hydrocarbons and silicones were low, but partition coefficients(Kw) of fatty acids, fatty alcohols, esters and triglycerides were high. It was known that the emulsions which were made of oils having low partition coefficients value had a good antimicrobial effects. Thus, the cosmetics stability of microorganisms and skin safety of phenoxyethanol could be improved by using the oils which have low partition coefficients value.
