A Study on the Synthesis of Alkoxides and Sialon (알콕사이드와 사이알론 합성에 관한 연구)

  • Fine powders of amorphous $Al_2O_3,\;SiO_2,\;Al_2O_3-SiO_2$ system were prepared by hydrolysis of solutions containing alkoxides, aluminium tri-isopropoxide and silicon tetra-ethoxide. High purity ultrafine ${\beta}-sialon$ powders were prepared by the carbothermal reduction-nitridation of amorphous $Al_2O_3-SiO_2$ powders mixed with carbon black as a reducing agent. In the hydrolysis step the effect of the factors such as pH, reaction temperature and amount of water on the conversion rate of alkoxides to oxides was investigated. In the carbothermal reduction-nitridation the reaction path was assumed by the analysis of intermediates formed in the process of ${\beta}-sialon$ synthesis and the reaction kinetics of ${\beta}-sialon$ formation was considered.

The Photocatalytic Activity of $TiO_2$ Powder Prepared by Sol-Gel Method (Sol-Gel법으로 제조한 $TiO_2$의 광촉매 활성도)

  • 광화학 반응의 초기 유발을 위한 광촉매로 TiO2가 가장 널리 알려져 있으며, 기존의 상품보다 광촉매 활성도가 높은 촉매를 얻기 위해 Sol-Gel법을 이용하였다. TiO2 광촉매 제조를 위하여 전구체로서 Tetra-eth해-ortho-titanate(TEOT)를 이용하여 xerogeol 분말을 얻었으며, 광화학 반응의 효율을 측정하기 위해 분해대상 물질을 Dichloroacetic acid(DCA)로 선정하였다. 순수 titania 졸을 얻기 위한 최적조건은 알콕사이드 1몰당 물 40몰, 산 0.05몰이었고 pH의 범위는 3.3-3.6이었으며 Hexylene Glycol(HG)의 첨가량은 1몰임을 알 수 있었다. BET-N2방법을 이용하여 표면적을 측정한 결과 물/알콕 사이드의 몰비가 40-80범위에서 비표면적이 급격히 증가되어 DCA 의 광분해율도 증가하였으며, 몰 40몰을 첨가 후 졸-겔법으로 제조한 분말을 40$0^{\circ}C$에서 1시간 열처리한 anatase phase의 TiO2가 최고의 광분해 효율인 약 21%를 보였다. 이는 상업용으로 가장 효율이 높은 Dagussa P-25의 DCA 분해 효율보다 2배 정도 높은 것으로 나타났다.

  • Fine Si-Al-OH coprecipitate powders were prepared from Si- and Al-alkoxides by the hydrolysis method. $\beta$-Sialon powder was obtained from prepared Si-Al-OH coprecipitate by the simultaneous reduction and nitridation method. The syntehsized Sialon powder was pressureless sintered at 175$0^{\circ}C$ for 90 min in N2 atmosphere. The characterization of the Sialon powder was performed with XRD, BET, SEM, TEM and particle size analysis. The sinterability and mechanical properties of sintered bodies were investigated in terms of relative density, M.O.R., fracture toughness, hardness and the morphology of microstructure. The highest values of their mechanical properties were obtained for the $\beta$-Sialon ceramics at Z=1 and those values are as follows : M.O.R., KIC and HV of $\beta$-Sialon ceramics(Z=1) are 499.1 MPa, 5.9MN/m3/2 and 18.7GPa, respectively.

  • In order to densify LAS(Lithuim Aluminosilicate)system compounds, we used metal alkoxides as precursors. Also Mg was added by sol-gel method using metal alkoxides to the LAS system for improving the sinterability, thermal and mechanical properties. The result was that the synthesizing temperature was lowered about 10$0^{\circ}C$, the sintering temperature was lowered by over 10$0^{\circ}C$ and MOR of samples from metal alkoxides was two times larger than that of sample form oxide.

  • GaN 기반 LED 소자의 ITO 표면에 sol-imprinting 기술을 이용하여 잔여층 없이 $TiO_2$ 나노 패턴을 형성하였다. 알콕사이드 계열의 $TiO_2$ sol과 Si 몰드로부터 복제된 PDMS 몰드를 사용하여 표면에 패턴을 형성하고, 이 후 annealing을 통해 내부에 남아있던 불순물을 제거하고 다결정 $TiO_2$을 형성하였다. 표면에 형성된 $TiO_2$ 나노 패턴이 LED 소자 내부에서 발생한 빛의 전반사를 억제하기 때문에 소자의 광추출 효율이 증가하였다.

Improvement of Oxidative Resistance for C/C Composite Coated (졸-겔법으로 알루미나를 도포한 탄소/탄소 복합재의 산화 억제효과)

  • In order to improve the oxidative resistance of carbon/carbon composites, aluminium-isopropoxide and aluminium-tri-sec-butoxide sol were coated on the surface of 2D--carbon/carbon composiles and the effects uf coating were investigated. The effects of oxidative resistance were dominant in the case of catalyst/alkoxide mole ratio, 0.07, and $H_2O$/alkoxide mole ratio, 100. Through the dynamic TGA analysis with the heating rate of 20%/min, oxidative initiation tempera~ ture was enhanced about $80^{\circ}C$. The oxidative resistance effects of alkoxide sol were improved according to the times of coating. Also the 20% weight loss time of coated samples by TGA analysis was 20% better than that of un~ coated samples. The thickness of 1^{st} coated layer was about 3${\mu}$m and that of $2^{nd}$ and $3^{nd}$ coated layers was about respectively 4~5${\mu}$m and the weight loss were increased with the increasing of thermal shock test times.

  • Only trace amounts of hydroxide ion can be extracted from aqueous phase into organic phase by Tetra-n-Butyl Ammonium Chloride(TBAC). Addition of small amounts of primary alcohols, particularly certain dials, dramatically changes the behavior of Phase Transfer Catalysis systems, and surprising amounts of base can be found in the organic phase. Quantitative measurements were carried out for the extraction amounts of primary alkoxides, secondary alkoxides, and diol anions into organic phase. On the other hand, the selectivity constants for extraction of primary alcohols and benzylalcohol could be separated to the equilibrium constants of the ion pairs such as $Q^+RO^-$ and $Q^+Cl^-$ in the aqueous and organic phases and this distribution coefficients between phases on anions respectively. In a word, the colligated property for the selectivity of $Q^+RO^-$ in which $Q^+$ is quaternary cation and $RO^-$ alkoxide ion could be discussed in more detail by using of the corresponding free energies to the various constants mentioned.

  • Photonic crystals (PCs) are highly ordered porous materials which have been much attention because of its potential for controlling the light sauces. There are many methods for synthesizing this kind of materials among them we chose the supercritical deposition. With this method the reactants can easily infiltrate into the complex structure. In this paper, supercritical carbon dioxide ($scCO_2$) was used as a reaction medium, which is known as a sustainable solvent due to its nontoxic and noninflammable characteristics. We coated the colloidal template with metal alkoxide by using $scCO_2$ and then obtained macro-porous inverse opals. The reaction was carried out at $40^{\circ}C$ and 80 bar. We synthesized two different inverse opals which called silica and titania inverse opals by use of tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) and titanium isopropoxide (TTIP) as a precursor, respectively.

  • Synthesis of high purity ultrafine Si3N4 and ${\beta}$-Sialon powders was investigated via the simultaneous reduction and nitriding of amorphous SiO2, SiO2-Al2O3 system prepaerd by hydrolysis of alkoxides, using carbonablack as a reducing agent. In Si(OC2H5)4-C2H5 OH-H2 O-NH4OH system, hydrolysis rate increased with increasing reaction temperature and pH. Pure ${\alpha}$-Si3N4 was formed at 1350$^{\circ}C$ for 5 hrs in N2 atmosphere. In Si(OC2H5)4-Al(OC3H7)3-C6H6-H2 O-NH4OH system, weight loss increased as Si/Al ratio decreased. Single phase ${\beta}$-Sialon consisted of Si/Al=2 was formed at 1350$^{\circ}C$ in N2 and minor phases of ${\alpha}$-Si3N4, AIN, and X-phase were existed besides theSialon phase at other Si/Al ratios. The Si3N4 and Sialon powders synthesized from alkoxides consisted of uniform find particles of 0.05-0.2$\mu\textrm{m}$ in diameter, respectively.
