A Study on the effects of CSRR-metamaterial on Microstrip Comb-line Array Antennas (마이크로스트립 콤 어레이 안테나에서 CSRR-메타물질의 영향에 관한 연구)

  • We investigated the effects of the CSRR-metamaterial on microstrip comb-line array antennas. Microstrip comb-line array antennas was designed with 12 radiators, gain of 16.09dBi and bandwidth of 0.24GHz in the 24GHz ISM band. The designed antenna had radiation beam perpendicular to the antenna plane, co-polarization gain of 16.09dBi and cross-polarization gain of -10.86dBi. the CSRR-metamaterial increased largely the impedance bandwidth of the antenna from 0.24GHz to 3.6GHz. however as co-polarization gain became 10.08dBi and cross-polarization gain became 14.1dBi, co-polarization was mixed with cross-polarization. And the antenna gain lowered by 1.99dB. On the investigation of the dependence on the split-direction of the CSRR rings, it showed nearly the same characteristics for up-splitted ring used case and down-splitted ring used case. However in the case of arranging up-splitted ring and down-splitted ring in alternation, co-polarization gain decreased to -1.29dBi and cross-polarization gain increased to 13.9dBi, which meant the wave was transited to cross-polarization majority wave.

Calibration Method of Channels' Initial Phase Shift in Active Phased Array Antenna (능동 위상배열 안테나 채널의 초기위상 천이 보정 방법)

  • An active phased away antenna consists of many channels including radiator and active circuitary that contains low noise amplifiers and phase shifters. Each channel has different initial phase shift and gain because of inequality in active circuitary itself, interface between radiator and active circuitary, beam forming network and other antenna configurations. This is an inherent problem in active phased away antenna, therefore each channels' initial phase shifts and gains should be calibrated for obtaining the designed radiation pattern and antenna gain. In this paper, an efficient calibration method for the active phased array antenna is presented. By performing the above method, thhe antenna gain is increased more than 2.0 dB after calibrating considerably unequal 12 channels' initial phase shifts and gains.

On-Glass Vehicle Antennas Using a Multi-Loop Structure (다중 루프 형태의 차량용 글래스 안테나)

  • In this paper, we propose a novel on-glass antenna for FM radio reception in a recreation vehicle(RV). We use a multi-loop structure that takes advantage of a broad matching bandwidth and a high vertical radiation gain by efficiently utilizing a given space of a quarter glass in spite of the simple planar structure. Transparency of the antenna is also improved by adjusting the stripline widths based on the induced current distributions. The proposed antenna is printed on a quarter glass of a commercial vehicle and antenna performances such as the return loss and the gain are measured in a semi-anechoic chamber. The result shows the average gain of -9.67 dBi along the bore-sight direction($\theta=90^{\circ}$, $\phi=270^{\circ}$) in the FM radio band(80$\sim$l10 MHz), which is higher than a commercial monopole typed on-glass antenna($G_{ave}$=-12.49 dBi) and micro-antenna($G_{ave}$=-19.24 dBi) mounted on the roof of the RV.

  • This paper describes patch antenna design method of antenna high gain and broad bandwidth using cylindrical magneto material around feeding line. Strong current induction method applied combination to generate magnetic fields around feeding line for antenna high gain characteristic and principle of PIFA designed application for design of antenna broadband. In case of single CMM, gain increased 3.96 dB compare with the reference antenna gain however bandwidth characteristic not increased compare with the reference antenna. In case of dual CMM, gain improved about 10 dB compare with the reference antenna and -10 below bandwidth is 700 MHz(50 MHz~750 MHz) with this paper designed high gain characteristic.

  • A high-gain circularly-polarized patch antenna with a double-layered superstrate is proposed operating at a wireless LAN frequency. A superstrate has an array of metallic periodic unit cells and is located above the patch antenna with an air-gap. The designed antenna has a high gain of over 9.59dBi, which is the gain enhancement of 6.48dB compared to the patch antenna without superstrate. And it has a low axial ratio of under 3dB, so that it maintains the circular polarization of the patch antenna. The optimum air-gap height at the superstrate of $4{\times}4$ arrays is 25mm, which is equivalent to about $0.2{\lambda}$ at the frequency of 2.45GHz. We confirmed that the double-layered stacking of a superstrate increases the effective aperture size and hence it leads to enhance a gain of the patch antenna.

  • 70GHz-band high gain array antenna is developed for automotive short range radar sensor. In Short-rangeradar, the gain must be high in order to increase the resolution, and the angle width must be set to secure the field of view(Fov). The proposed antenna operates at 76~81GHz and satisfies angle width $60^{\circ}$, antenna gain 15dB and the input reflection coefficient of less than -10dB within the operating frequency. Wave guide WR-10 was used to measure the antenna and results similar to the simulation results were obtained.

  • In this paper, a folded helical monopole antenna for TDMB receiving and a trapezoidal fractal microstrip patch antenna for GPS were designed and fabricated for the vehicle shark antenna. To minimize null which is generating toward antenna axis direction and to receive both vertical polarization and horizontal polarization for TDMB antenna, we fold 90 degree helical monopole element. GPS antenna to get wide bandwidth and gain improvement was designed an air substrate trapezoidal microstrip patch antenna. Fabricated TDMB and GPS antenna were measured for S11 and radiation pattern, and compared with a commercialized antenna. TDMB antenna shows 3 dB higher antenna gain and receiving signal strength than the commercial one. GPS antenna shows the gain of 4.31 dBi at the resonant frequency, which is $3{\sim}5\;dB$ higher gain over whole operating band and 135MHz wide bandwidth at 2:1 VSWR than the conventional ceramic antenna.

원형편파의 축비 대역폭 개선을 위한 직렬 급전 십자개구 결합 마이크로스트립 안테나

  • 마이크로스트립 안테나가 가지는 가장 큰 단점인 협대역 특성을 개선하기 위해 그 동안 수많은 연 구와 방법들이 제안되었는데 특히 원형편파 안테나는 임피던스 대역폭 외에 축비 대역폭까지도 고려 되어야 하므로 더욱 심화된 협대역의 특성을 가지게 되어 설계에 많은 어려움이 있었다. 일반적으로 원형편파 마이크로스트립 안테나를 설계하는 방법 중 급전 구조면에서는 크게 단일 급전 방식과 하이 브리드 형태의 급전방식이 있다. 단일 급전 방식의 원형편파 안테나는 구조가 간단하고y 제작이 간편 하며, 안테나의 물리적 크기를 줄일 수 있어 배열시 장점이 있으나 구조의 특성상 협대역의 축비 대역 폭을 가지며I 하이브리드 급전 원형편파 안테나는 구조가 복잡하고, 제작이 어려우며, 안테나의 물리적 크기가 커진다는 단점이 있으나 광대역의 축비 대역폭을 가진다. 따라서 원형편파 안테나의 설계시 축 비 대역폭과 안테나의 물리적 크기 간의 trade-off를 고려하여야한다. 최근에는 이를 고려한 단일 급전 을 이용하면서도 개선된 축비특성올 얻을 수 있도록 십자개구 개구를 통해 두 개의 직교 모드를 방사 패치에 급전하는 구조가 제안되기도 하였다. 하지만 이는 일반적인 단일 급전 방식보다 개선된 축비 대역폭을 얻을 수 있었으나 중심주파수에서 2.5%에 불과하였다. 본 논문에서는 단일 급전 십자개구 결합 방식이 가지는 협대역의 축비 대역폭을 개선하기 위해 단 일 급전으로 하이브리드 급전의 효과를 가져올 수 있는 직렬 급전 십자개구 결합 마이크로스트립 안 테나를 제안하였으며, 기존에 발표된 단일 급전 십자개구 결합 안테나와의 축비 대역폭, 이득, 방사패 턴, 그리고 임피던스 대역폭 둥과 비교하여 개선된 특성을 제시하고 제안된 안테나의 타당성을 보였 다. 실제로 2.4GHz의 주파수에서 제안한 직렬 급전 십자개구 결합 단일 마이크로스트립 안테나의 측 정결과 기존에 연구된 안테나보다 약 2배정도 증가된 4.6%의 축비 대역폭, 10%의 임피던스 대역폭 (VSWR<1.5), 그리고 8.2dBi의 최대이득 특성을 확인할 수 있었으며, 이를 바탕으로 시권셜 로테이션 기법올 사용한 $2\times2$ 배열 안테나는 17.5%의 축비 대역폭, 20.8%의 임피던스 대역폭(VSWR<1.5), 그리 고 12.5dBi의 최대이득을 얻을 수 있었다. 이에 해당하는 제안된 단일 안태나와 $2\times2$ 배열 안테나의 구조, 측정된 축비 대역폭 및 이득특성, 그리고 입력 반사손실을 그림 I, 2, 3에 각각 나타내었다.

  • Space diversity and space multiplexing gain can be achieved with MIMO system. This paper proposes spatial coding method to MIMO system using data information and antenna selection technique. This technique provides coding gain as well as space diversity gain. For MIMO system with BPSK modulation, BER performance is analyzed and space diversity gains are compared through simulation in terms of data maldistribution degree.

A Series Feeding Cross-Aperture Coupled Microstrip Antenna for Improving Axial Ratio Bandwidth of Circular Polarization (원형편파의 축비 대역폭 개선을 위한 직렬 급전 십자개구 결합 마이크로스트립 안테나)

  • In this paper, a novel series feeding cross-aperture coupled microstrip antenna with the effect of hybrid feeding is proposed and demonstrated experimentally to improve narrow axial ratio bandwidth of cross-aperture coupled antenna with single feeding among the various methods for generating circular polarization. The validity of a proposed series feeding cross-aperture coupled microstrip antenna is shown by comparing experimental results between the reported and the proposed microstrip antenna, and 2${\times}$2 array microstrip antenna based on the proposed single microstrip antenna used sequential rotation technique to accomplish broader axial ratio bandwidth. In the proposed single and 2${\times}$2 array microstrip antenna, the measured axial ratio bandwidths are 110 ㎒(4.6%) and 420 ㎒(17.5%), maximum gains are 8.2 ㏈i and 12.5 ㏈i, 3 dB gain bandwidths are above 400 ㎒(16.7%), and impedance bandwidths for the VSWR<1.5 are 240 ㎒(10%) and 500 ㎒(20.8%), respectively.
