  • In this paper, we described the design of Ka-band planar active phased array antenna which is applicable for small RADAR for airborne and seeker of guided missile. The antenna consists of about 1000 array radiating elements and is designed to be within 200mm diameter. We optimized the spacing of radiating elements to allow beem steering above ${\pm}55$ degrees of Field of view, and analyzed the performance of antenna. We confirmed that the Effective Isotropic Radiated Power (EIRP) of the antenna can be 94.22 dBm and receive G/T can be 1.68 dB/k through the designs of RF components and the verification of RF budget. The TX output of TR Module is designed to be over 1.3W for EIRP, and Receive noise figure of TR Module is designed to be less than 5dB for G/T.

  • For the far field radiation pattern of a microstrip array antenna which is conformed to a cylindrical surface and forms an arc array, an approximate analysis method using FOURIER TRANSFORM is presented. In this method, the conformal array antenna is projected on the effective aperture plane and assumed to be an aperiodic array with nonlinear phase tilt. The effective aperture plane includes four end-points of each arc on the cylindrical surface. When the effective aperture ratio which is normalized to the planar type is from 1.0 to 0.9, it is confirmed that this approximate method is valid. To the array on the effective aperture plane, it is assumed that the phase tilt is due to the distance between aperture plne and curvature surface. Specially, when the radius of arc is more than 5 times to its length, the FOURIER TRANSFORM METHOD could be used with only varying scale factors. The results of calculating by approximate method are good agreement with the results of COORDINATE TRANSFORM METHOD and experimentally measured value in the range of -40dB. And, the difference of half power angle is less than 5 degrees when the effective aperture ratio moer than 0.9.

  • In this paper, the characteristics of inset fed microstrip antenna loaded with CSLR(complementary single loop resonator) are studied. Effective permeability parameters of the SLR unit cell is retrieved from simulated scattering parameters, and structure parameters of the SLR unit cell are selected so that effective permeability is negative value at the operating frequency. The optimized inset fed microstrip antenna loaded with SLR for a $3{\times}3$ array in the ground plane of a conventional patch antenna is designed and simulation results of return loss and radiation pattern are shown. At resonant frequency 2.82 GHz, the overall dimension of the proposed antenna is reduced by approximately 56.8% compared to the conventional inset fed antenna. Simulation results are obtained by 3D FEM solver(Ansoft's HFSS).

  • Theorectical and experimental studies of On-Glass antenna in the 1.9GHz bandare performed. In this paper, the structure of designed On-Glass antenna consists of a 5/8-wavelength upper segment and quarter-wavelength lower segment separated by phasing coil. On-Glass antenna may be resonated by the use of suitably spaced phasing coil in series with the antenna wire. This tuning structure leads to an improvement in antenna efficiency. And then, this can be very useful for installation where limited space like automobil is available. The analytical method is based on collocation method with pulse function. The results obtained from numerical method are presented and compared with an experimental evaluation. From this, the VSWR, gain, radiation pattern, and bandwidth of the On-Glass antenna are analyzed.

  • In this paper, a THz Yagi-Uda antenna with high input impedance is designed. By placing the antenna on a thin substrate, end-fire radiation patterns with high antenna impedance can be obtained even when the substrate has high relative dielectric constant. The proposed Yagi-Uda antenna has high input resistance of approximately $4,400{\Omega}$ at the resonance frequency which is obtained by using a U-shaped dipole as a driver element. It is expected that the Yagi-Uda antenna on a thin substrate can achieve much higher terahertz output power than the conventional THz antennas.

  • In this paper we proposed a dual-frequency circular sector microstrip antenna with orthogonal polarized modes and high isolation between the two feeding ports. And then we designed a transceiver operating at 5.6 GHz for transmitting and at 5.5 GHz for receiving. The good isolation provided by the proposed antenna is used as the basis for the transmit-receive filtering of transceiver. The operating frequencies and polarization characteristics of the proposed antenna is calculated by using a cavity model. The 5-parameters and radiation patterns of the antenna are measured. A power amplifier and a low noise amplifier are designed and integrated with antenna to make a transceiver, which has about 13dB transmitting gain and about 8㏈ receiving gain.

  • In this paper, measurement methods for the characteristics of antennas for indoor digital TV (DTV), having 75-ohm port impedance, are introduced. Reference impedance of typical radio frequency (or microwave) systems and measurement equipments is 50 ohm. However, the reference impedance of antennas for indoor DTV is 75 ohm, and the characteristics of the antennas cannot be measured directly using the measurement equipments. Measurement methods, using test equipments with reference impedance of 50 ohm, for the characteristics(impedance, radiation patterns, and gain) of antennas designed to fit for 75 ohm port are introduced.

  • In this paper, an arbitrary Iinear antenna is divided into many small sections and numeral analysis by moment method is carried out. So, the equation which is closed to the actual current distribution and solved easily compared with the induced-emf method or retarded potencial method is derived. The current distribution and radiating pattern of the three element Yagi antenna which applied the result is well in accord with the theoritical values.

  • In this paper, a thin-straight monopole antenna attached to a conducting box is analyzed using a moment method with the pocklington integral expression for the exact Green's function. A modeling of a conducting box is based on a Wire-Grid method for an efficient calculation procedure. A system of linear equation is obtained using the piecewise sinusoidal basis function. And a Junction basis function is enforcing to represent the physical current on the edge of the conducting box. Especially, the junction basis functions are overlapped for the current continuity preserving on the vertexes. Numerical results are obtained for the current distribution on the unified antenna/conducting box system, input impedance and radiation pattern. The results are compared with the known data.

  • A novel ultra wideband microstrip-fed circular patch antenna having band stop characteristic in UNII band is presented. The band stop characteristic is realized by inverted-U shaped slot. The range of stop bandwidth can be adjusted by changing the length of the slot. The measured impedance bandwidth of the proposed antenna is from 2.9 GHz to 12.1 GHz with the stop band from 4.9 GHz to 6 GHz for VSWR<2. This antenna shows a monopole-like radiation pattern and flat gain characteristic throughout the operating frequency band.
