Modeling and Design of Medium-wave DGPS Monopole Antenna (DGPS를 위한 중파대역 모노폴 안테나 모델링 및 설계)

  • The experimental design method based-on the measured data in the several LF monopole antenna was used in MF monopole antenna design. The design technique is also utilized in MF DGPS antenna design. It is not possible to predict the antenna performance of the MF short-monopole antenna because of simple experimental antenna design. Furthermore, it is difficult to design and analyze the various wired short-monopole antenna. The antenna models for performance analysis of the DGPS antenna with the various wired short-monopole structure are proposed in this paper. Based on the proposed antenna models, also, the antenna performance and design data of the wired short-monopole antennas are presented. To evaluate the validity of the analyzed antenna models, the wired short-monopole antenna for 100 kHz are modeled and analyzed. The antenna performance of the wired short-monopole antenna are compared with those of the previously presented LF antenna performance. Based on the evaluation for proposed antenna analyzing models, the DGPS wired short-monopole antennas are modeled and analyzed.

  • Based on the modeling of DGPS antenna and antenna site environment, the DGPS short-monopole antenna performance according to the antenna surrounding environment are analyzed in this paper. The DGPS antenna site modeling that considers the ground conductivity and radio wave obstacles is performed and the general requirements for DGPS antenna site are proposed. In case of antenna site with proper radials on the ground plane of the fixed scale, the effect for antenna matching network due to the ground conductivity and radio wave obstacles is small but the impact on the radiation efficiency is large. To provide the stable DGPS service, it is important to install the DGPS antenna on the flat ground plain with good conductivity and without radio wave obstacles.

  • There is increasingly interested in the measurement of antenna's characteristics for one's manufacture according to one's various application. Due to this, the antenna measurement system need be made with more and more great precision. On measuring of the antenna's characteristic, the conventional system handled by human generates the error due to controlling the position of the system by user. Therefore there need be introduced the automatic measurement system of antenna's characteristic. In this paper, we propose antenna extraction algorithm for the Antenna automatic measurement system of antenna's characteristic. The proposed algorithm gets the antenna image from antenna measurement system, extracts an antenna object from the image, and extracts the parameters for antenna's slant and antenna's location. The extracted parameters is used to correct location and distortions of the antenna and automatic measurement. The proposed algorithm is applied to the patch antenna. The results show that antenna's object is efficiently extracted and the angle for correcting the error is calculated well.

Shark Antenna for Vehicle TDMB and GPS Receiver (TDMB 및 GPS 수신용 전장용 샤크 안테나)

  • In this paper, a folded helical monopole antenna for TDMB receiving and a trapezoidal fractal microstrip patch antenna for GPS were designed and fabricated for the vehicle shark antenna. To minimize null which is generating toward antenna axis direction and to receive both vertical polarization and horizontal polarization for TDMB antenna, we fold 90 degree helical monopole element. GPS antenna to get wide bandwidth and gain improvement was designed an air substrate trapezoidal microstrip patch antenna. Fabricated TDMB and GPS antenna were measured for S11 and radiation pattern, and compared with a commercialized antenna. TDMB antenna shows 3 dB higher antenna gain and receiving signal strength than the commercial one. GPS antenna shows the gain of 4.31 dBi at the resonant frequency, which is $3{\sim}5\;dB$ higher gain over whole operating band and 135MHz wide bandwidth at 2:1 VSWR than the conventional ceramic antenna.

A Design of Wideband Printed Dual Meandered Slot Antenna (인쇄회로형 광대역 이중 미앤더드 슬롯 안테나 설계)

  • This paper designed a compact printed meandered scot antenna which to integrate in wireless LAN and proposed a printed dual meandered slot antenna for improving bandwidth. A printed dual meandered slot antenna is calculated by using the mehtod of FDTD. The calculated results showed good agreement with the measured results. As a result of measurement, the bandwidth(VSWR< 2) of single meandered slot antenna is 115 MHz and the bandwidth of dual meandered slot antenna is 164 MHz. The dual meandered slot antenna bandwidth has been improves to that of 43% comparing to single meandered slot antenna.

  • Herein, an ultrawideband spinning direction finding (DF) antenna was designed and fabricated for airborne applications. The proposed antenna is designed by dividing the low-band (UHF - L band) and high-band (S - Ka band) antennas to cover the ultrawideband frequency range (UHF - Ka band). For the high-band antenna, an LPDA antenna fed offset-parabolic-reflector antenna is applied. In the low-band antenna, two LPDA antenna elements are arrayed in front of the reflector of the high-band antenna without increasing to the full antenna size. The low- and high-band gains of the fabricated antenna were measured as 8.76 dBi and 24.55 dBi on average, respectively. The antenna was fabricated with the dimensions of 437 mm in diameter and 358 mm in height. Consequently, we confirmed that the designed antenna is appropriate for the spinning DF antenna in terms of the affordable size for installing on an airplane, as well as the high gain and narrow beamwidth.

  • A vehicle antenna for AM, FM, TDMB, GPS systems was designed and implemented. Omnidirectional AM antenna was designed by ferrite turn style antenna. For the FM and TDMB antenna, folded monopole antenna which helical is folded was applied. GPS antenna for the bandwidth achievement was designed by trapezoidal microstrip patch that has air substrate. Receiving signal strengths by the measurement were presented for the AM, FM and TDMB antenna. AM signal strength was -65.7 dBm, this strength is almost as same conventional pole antenna as -63.4 dBm. It can be replaced conventional pole or glass antenna by the studied antenna. Signal strengths for FM and TDMB were -55.66 and -43.50 dBm at center frequency, they are 5~10 dB higher than conventional antenna. Measurements of bandwidth and gain for the GPS antenna showed 135 MHz under VSWR 2 : 1 and 4.31 dBi, gains over GPS band were 3~5 dB higher than ceramic patch antenna.

  • The satellite antenna for collecting information is mainly classified into reflector antenna, lens antenna, and phased array antenna. Among them, the phased array antenna with the excellent antenna pattern control performance for a multi-beam system is frequently used. Although the terrestrial signal information collection based on the satellite is not much effected geographically, it requires the accurate angle-of-arrival (AOA) information of the interesting signal. In this paper, we discuss the characteristics and the advantages/disadvantages of the antenna array shape employed in the phased array antenna. In addition, we present the Cascade AOA estimation algorithm based on a square array antenna mounted on the satellite receiver, and show the performance evaluation results through the computer simulation.

  • Recently there have been much interest in the GPS antenna performance improvement. In this paper, we propose very small patch antenna for GPS band. The proposed antenna resonance frequency was adjusted using the ground plane and variable capacitor connected the frame. The fabricated antenna was used a FR4 substrate by considering the difficulty and economical efficiency. Antenna measurement results was obtained good characteristics of VSWR 1.2, the passive antenna gain -0.60 dBi, the active antenna gain of 29 dB in center frequency of 1575.42 MHz GPS band.
