Anti-Toxoplasmosis Effect of the Halophyte Suaeda maritime (염생식물 해홍나물의 항톡소포자충 효과)

  • Toxoplasmosis is an important cause of foodborne, inflammatory illnesses, as well as congenital abnormalities. Currently available therapies are ineffective for persistent chronic disease and congenital toxoplasmosis or have severe side effects which may result in life-threatening complications. There is an urgent need for safe and effective therapies to eliminate or treat this cosmopolitan infectious disease. The aim of this study was to investigate the in vitro anti-Toxoplasma activities of Suaeda maritime, one of the halophytes, using tachyzoit of T. gondii RH strain infected HeLa cells. As the results, the selectivity of Suaeda maritime extract was 6.63, which was higher than Sulfadiazine selectivity (2.06). Also, we perfomed the cell proliferation inhibition test and the morphological study to evaluate the anti-T. gondii activity of Suaeda maritime extract with HeLa cells. As the results, the inhibition rate of the Suaeda maritime extract was high inhibition rate. This indicates that the Suaeda maritime extract may be used for new anti-T. gondii agent.

Study on the Antioxidant Activity of Geranium nepalense subsp. thunbergii Extract (이질풀 추출물의 항산화 효능에 관한 연구)

  • Antioxidant activity of Geranium nepalense subsp. thunbergii extract was evaluated by DPPH free radical scavenging assay. Geranium nepalense subsp. Thunbergii extract contains tannin, (-)epicatechin, kaempferitin, kaepferol -7-rhamnoside, brevifolin, corilagin, pyrogallol, ellagitannin, geraniin, gallic acid, succinic acid, quercetin, protocatechuic acid, etc. Geranium nepalense subsp. Thunbergii showed excellent antioxidant activity compared to positive control, quercetin. Geranium nepalense subsp. thunbergii extract showed a 98.33 % inhibition of DPPH radical at a concentration of $50\;{\mu}g/mL$. Quercetin showed a 78.05 % inhibition of DPPH radical at the same concentration. To investigate reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging activity, Geranium nepalense subsp. thunbergii extract was treated to human keratinocytes (HaCaT). $IC_{50}$ value of Geranium nepalense subsp. thunbergii extract was $43.22\;{\mu}g/mL$ and $IC_{50}$ value of quercetin was $102.35\;{\mu}g/mL$. Geranium nepalense subsp. thunbergii extract showed excellent antioxidant activity. Skin irritation test and cytotoxicity test suggested that Geranium nepalense subsp. thunbergii extract is a safe antioxidant ingredient for cosmetics.

  • 보 및 평판의 진동에 대해서 에너지의 손실은 재료감쇠를 이용한 표면감쇠처리나 지지부에서의 감쇠처리에 의하여 증가될 수 있다. 감쇠재료를 이용한 표면감쇠처리의 예로서 보/평판 표면에 접착되는 감쇠 테이프나 코팅등은 아주 효과적임이 입증되었다. 마찬가지로 지지부 감쇠처리는 점탄성재료의 삽입에 의해서 설명될수 있다[1]. 보/평판의 감쇠에 대한 최근의 많은 연구들은 진동하고 있는 보/평판의 표면에 적용하는 감쇠 테이프 혹은 적층형태의 감쇠 처리방법에 대해서 주로 수행되었다. 일반적으로 표면감쇠처리방법은 진동감소에 아주 효과적이지만 실제 적용상에서 항상 가능한 것은 아니며, 이와 같은 경웨는 지지부 감쇠 처리방법에 의존하게 된다[2]. 감쇠특성을 갖는 점탄성재료를 실제로 적용할 때 보/평판의 유한한 길이가 점탄성재료로 지지되며 점탄성재료의 물성치와 치수에 따라서 계의 모우드 매개변수(고유진동수, 계의 손실계수 그리고 모우드형상)가 크게 달라진다. 그리고 이와 같은 계에 대해서는 지지부의 거동보다는 전체 시스템의 고유진동수와 손실계수 그리고 보 영역에서의 모우드 형상에 더 관심이 있으므로 지지부 영역을 집중매개변수(lumped parameter)로 나타내어 계를 해석할 수 있다. 일반적으로 보와 평판의 경계에서는 병진 및 회전방향의 강성 뿐만 아니라 두 강성사이에 연성효과도 동시에 발생하게 되므로 이 항을 고려하여 계를 모델링해야 한다. 본 연구에서는 우선 점탄성 재료에 의한 지지부영역의 등가 강성계수들을 구하고 경계에 강성행렬을 갖는 보의 등가시스템을 얻는다. 그리고 등가시스템의 주파수방정식으로부터 모우드 매개변수에 대한 지지부의 영향을 살펴본다. 또한 시스템이 비교적 복잡한 사각 평판의 진동에 대해서도 동강성행렬법(dynamic stiffness matrix method)을 이용하여 해석하고자 한다. 수준임이 입증되었다. 본 연구의 결과를 토대로우리나라 젊고 건강한 남성에게 적합한 무게상수는 작업자군에 대하여 25.05kg, 학생군에 대하여 20.24kg 으로 나타나 이는 미국 NIOSH 안전기준과 대체로 일치함을 발견하였다.ive structures utilized in Client/server architecture for distribution and cooperative processing of application between server and client this study presents two different data management methods under the Client/server environment; one is "Remote Data Management Method" which uses file server or database server and. the other is "Distributed Data Management Method" using distributed database management system.   • Angelman syndrome is characterized by a partial deficit of paired autosomal chromosome 15, which contains a subunit of the GABA (Gamma-Amino Butyric Acid) receptor. The main clinical characteristics of this syndrome are delayed neuropsychological development, intellectual disability, and speech impairment. The syndrome has oral manifestations such as diastemas, tongue thrusting, sucking swallowing disorder, and excessive chewing behavior. A 3-year-6-month old girl with Angelman syndrome was scheduled for dental treatment. She had multiple caries, but she was poorly cooperative for treatment due to developmental delay and movement disorder, so general anesthesia was considered. The patient with Angelman syndrome was successfully treated under general anesthesia. There were no postoperative complications related to anesthesia and dental treatment. When treating children with this syndrome, the dentist needs to manage their uncooperative behavior and medical problem.

  • Problem of greenhouse gases associated with global warming and the world rise in fuel oil prices due to the depletion of fossil fuel has attracted attention. For this reason, maritime transport business, has shown interest in green-ship technology to reduce the consumption of fuel and reduce greenhouse gas for environmental protection. Power system of the ship is one of the most important factors for safe operation. Therefore, at design of ship power system, most of existing vessel used comparative large capacity generator in order to respond peak load such as bow thruster, crane and etc. In the navigation of ship, marine generators most would be operated at low load operation. In the low load operation of the generation rate of 50% or less, the operation efficiency of the generator it deteriorated, to consume more fuel oil. It also, it means that adversely effect the life of the generator. In this paper, studied how to apply for a secondary battery in container ship that relatively frequent arrival and departure in port. As a result, in order to apply the secondary battery to increase the operating efficiency of the generator during the voyage, it was confirmed that it is possible to reduce fuel consumption.

  • To design ship channel is one of important factors for planning and developing a port. In most case, the core factors for designing ship channel are the layout and width of channel provided the net underkeel clearance is secured to be safe enough to pass. In this study, Variable Bumper Area(VBA) model is applied to design and assess ship channel. This model reflects ship's particular, ship domain theory, ship speed and mariner's ship handling skill and experience, especially external forces which cause leeway, set and drift and the change of ship maneuvering characteristics. A real time, full mission shiphandling simulator is used to analyze ship dynamic data according to mariner's ship control, external forces, ete. This model defines Domain degree and Domain-index for assessing the efficiency and safety of the channel. The proposed model is applied to Ulsan new port plan which has a channel width of 1.5 times the length of the largest vessel, a radius of 5 times the length of the largest vessel in a curve of 57 degree centerline angle and SBM facility adjacent to the lateral edge of channel. The result of this study shows that the width of the channel and radius of channel curve are suitable for the target ship but the difficulty of ship handling is caused by the large course change and SBM located in the vicinity of channel.

  • A construction project of Incheon 2nd bridge, which is connected between the Incheon Song-Do New Town and the Incheon International Airport in Young-Jong-Do, has been proposed by the private capital in 1999. But the optimal width of the main span has not been decided in spite of the three investigations into the feasibility of ship's safe transit in this planned bridge. In this paper, we study the economic analysis on port operational efficiency according to traffic schemes, one-way or two-way of vessels over 10,000G/T, in the main span of this bridge. In this comparative result, total queueing time due to the one-way in the bridge main span is evaluated 20,362 hours in 2011 and 24,544 hours in 2020. Therefore the demurrage cost and the accumulation cost of freight are evaluated 19.7 billion won in 2011, and 23.3 billion won in 2020, then total accumulated costs during 33 years from 2008 until 2040 are evaluated about 768.9 billion won.

  • Piracy is the enemy of the human race. Pirates commit acts of murder, robbery, plunder or other villainous deeds at sea, cruelly against humanity. The Republic of Korea(ROK), as a big maritime country, is obliged to suppress piracy under international treaties it ratified, including the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and the two 1988 Conventions against maritime terrorism The Korean government is recently taking a positive attitude towards the regional cooperation which is necessary for the suppression of piracy in the waters of Southeast Asia In spite of the effects of international cooperation to prevent piracy, it is recently on an increasing trend every year. Such circumstances may have a bad effect on the sound development of world economy by means of trade at sea as well as treat to the safety of crews and safe operation of ships. This paper aims to suggest the countermeasures against piracy in terms of criminal law, civil law and international law in order to secure safe operation of vessels at sea.

Physiological Characteristics of Anticoagulant Fractions from Eugenia caryophyllata (정향으로부터 추출한 항응고활성 획분의 기능적 특성)

  • The alkali extraction of anticoagulant from a clove revealed 3-to 6-fold more effective than hot-water extraction. The highest anticoagulant activity was found with 0.1 N NaOH at 7$0^{\circ}C$. The anticoagulant fractions from a clove, EC-2B and EC-2C were separated by alkali extraction, ethanol precipitation, cetavlon treatment, and ultrafiltration. The anticoagulant activities of these two fractions were, respectively, 6.57 and 8.63 times higher than those extracted with hot-water. As of the sensory evaluation, boiled pork added with EC-2B fraction revealed similar sensory acceptability to raw clove material, while EC-2C fraction had low sensory acceptability due to a mild chemical odor. Antibacterial characteristics against pathogenic microorganism of both fractions were confirmed in the control strain. The inhibitory effect of growth by EC-2B was noticed above 0.016% in S. aureus. Also, EC-2C showed the inhibitory effect at 0.004% in both E. cole and S. aureus control strains.

A study on the vessel traffic safety assessment of Busan Harbor (부산항내 선박통항 안전성 평가에 관한 연구)

  • As invigoration plan of the marine tourism, Busan City has the plan to operate the cruise ship inside of the harbor, but the area has narrow water way with heavy traffic. As a result it is requested to evaluate the safety for the preparation of actual navigation. In this study, the Ship Handling Simulation (SHS) Assessment was conducted, which is regulated by the Maritime Traffic Safety Audit Scheme (MTSAS) in compliance with the Marine Safety Law and the Maritime Traffic Risk Assessment System based on the Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS). The proximity assessment, control assessment and subjective assessment were implemented, which is enacted by the Marine Safety Law by using the SHS. In the case of proximity assessment, the probability of trespass was not analyzed. As the control assessment, the swept path was measured at 11.7 m and 11.5 m for port entry and port departure respectively, which exceeded the width of the model vessel, 10.4 m over; it was considered as a marginal factor. As a result of the subjective evaluation of the navigator, there would be no difficulty on ship maneuvering by paying particular attention to the mooring vessel nearby the Busan Bridge and Yeongdo Bridge as well as the coming vessel from the invisible sea area when the vessel is entering and departing the port. The Marine Traffic Risk Assessment System analyzed as [Cautious] level until the vessel passed the Busan bridge and the curved area at 5 kts and it became to [Dangerous] level from where it left 75 m to the Busan Bridge. When the vessel passed the Busan Bridge and the curved area at 10 kts and entered the narrow area, it indicated the [Dangerous] level and became to [Very dangerous] level from where it left 410 m to the Busan bridge. In conclusion, the vessel should maintain at the speed of 5 kts to reduce the risk when it passes this area.
