  • The purpose of this paper is to explore Korean adolescents' understanding of safety using the indigenous psychologies approach. This paper examines Korean adolescents' experience of the type of accidents they were involved in, what they perceived to be the cause of the accident, the type of social support received after the accident, and the prevention needed to avoid future accidents. The indigenous understanding of accidents is examined according to the grade level of the students, gender, and safety efficacy beliefs. Second, to examine the changes in the safety efficacy beliefs, the differences across primary, junior high, and senior high school students are examined. Third, the relationship between safety efficacy belief and attitudes toward preventing future accidents is explored. Third, the parental influence on adolescents' safety efficacy belief is examined by analyzing the influence of their socio-economic status and their safety efficacy belief on their children's safety efficacy belief and behavior. The review of the results can be summarized into the following five main points: (1) decrease in safety efficacy belief with increasing age, (2) positive relationship between safety efficacy belief and behavior, (3) the utility of the indigenous psychologies approach, (4) the parental influence on their children's safety efficacy beliefs and behavior, and (5) the need to further explore, promote, and educate the importance of human life and quality of life by preventing accidents and promoting safety consciousness and behavior in Korea.

  • This descriptive study was aimed to identify factors which influence safety performance through evaluation of nurse's perception of patient safety culture and safety control in general hospital. Self-administered web surveys were conducted by 342 nurses who employed in general hospital from May 09 to May 13, 2014. Data were analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 21.0 statistical program. The results of analysis revealed that the score of safety culture perception was 3.34, safety control was 3.50, safety performance was 3.53 and all scores were higher level than usual. There were significant positive correlation between safety performance and perception of patient safety culture, safety control (r=.463~.645, p<.001). The positively influencing factors of safety performance are marital status, frequency of accident reports, general perception of patient safety and safety control. Explanation ratio of the variables for the safety performance was 52.0% in this study(F=4.252, p=.004). • The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of self-esteem on the safety culture and safety behavior of airline pilots and to confirm whether job satisfaction has a mediating effect in these relationships. It was examined whether self-esteem directly affects safety culture and safety behavior, and indirectly through job satisfaction. As a result of the study, self-esteem did not have a direct significant effect on safety culture, but indirectly had a positive effect through job satisfaction. In addition, self-esteem had a direct significant positive effect on safety behavior, and job satisfaction partially mediated this relationship. This suggests that pilots with higher self-esteem practice safety behavior more actively, and job satisfaction can promote such behavior. These results show the importance of organizational support such as programs and support for enhancing pilots' self-esteem, fair compensation for improving job satisfaction, improving working environment, and providing career development opportunities in airlines, and are intended to be used as basic data for this.

  • This study aimed to demonstrate the dual mediating effect of psychological safety(PS) and silence climate(SC) in the process of team leader's self-deception behavior(SD) influencing team learning(TL). We conducted a survey of 294 workers in domestic companies and analyzed the data statistically using SPSS 21 and SPSS Process Macro for hierarchical regression and bootstrapping. The results are as follows: 1. all correlation coefficients are significant showing that SD has positive correlations with SC and negative correlation with PS and TL, 2. simple mediation effects(SD-PS-TL and SD-SC-TL) are all significant, 3. the dual mediation effect of psychological safety and silence climate on the relation between team leader's self-deception behavior and team learning(SD-PS-SC-TL) is verified. This study showed that the authenticity of team leaders could be an crucial element for organizational communication and effectiveness. Finally, limitations and suggestions for future research were discussed.
