  • 악취의 배출원은 제지공장, 정유공장, 화학공장 등과 같이 다양한 산업시설과 축사, 음식물 처리시설, 하ㆍ폐수처리장, 분뇨처리장, 생활폐기물 매립장 등의 생활악취시설로 구분할 수 있다. 산업시설의 경우, 악취배출시설에 대한 감시와 관리가 강화되었으나, 생활악취 배출시설의 경우 생활 주변에 광범위하게 자리 잡고 있어 효율적인 악취관리가 이루어지고 있지 않다. 악취 민원이 사회적 문제가 되고 있는 생활폐기물 매립장의 경우 차폐시설을 설치할 수 없어, 지형적인 영향과 기상조건 및 시간에 따라 변화하는 악취의 발생 특성까지 고려해야 하므로 관리가 더욱 어렵다.   • This study was carried out to assess and analyze the overall problems of the facilities in recycling and treating of foodwaste on the basis of the unit operation facilities. It proposes effective alternatives for the high profitable management that can meet the regulation of the facilities. The study is composed of several parts including a collection of academic reports, field studies regarding the facilities operated by local government and the private sector, the analysis on odor samples from compost facilities and processing facilities for animal feed from foodwaste. Twenty facilities were surveyed on the field to find out the existing problems and to compare between facilities. Several facilities didn't meet the governmental regulation on some processes, especially the stages of input, storage, odor control and the qualities of final products under the unit equipment operation. The analysis on the odors from the phases of input, shredding and fermentation of a compost facility and processing facilities for feed, the odors from shredding equipments were higher in concentration than the others. The Major odors from the composting facility contained hydrogen sulfide ($H_2S$), methyl mercaptan ($CH_3{SH}$), Dimethyl sulfide ($(CH_3)_2S$) and Ammonia ($NH_3$) and the major odors from the animal feed facility contained methyl mercaptan ($CH_3{SH}$), Trimethylamine ($(CH_3)_3N$) and Acetaldehyde ($CH_3CHO$).

  • 국내에서 악취와 관련된 연구는 대부분 표본채취 분석 등 실태 파악 수준에 머물러 있으며, 악취원의 주변지역 기여도 분석 등에 관한 연구는 거의 없다. 특히, 악취물질의 배출계수 개발 부분과 배출원 inventory와 관련된 내용은 거의 없거나 매우 초기단계이다. 생활악취시설 중 쓰레기 매립장, 소각장, 하수종말처리장, 위생처리장, 음식물쓰레기처리공장(퇴비화, 사료화 등) 등의 환경기초시설은 주로 주민의 생활주변에 산재되어 있는 시설로서, 이들로부터 발생되는 악취물질은 관리상태(기기의 실태 및 관리), 기상조건(온도, 습도, 바람장 등), 발생원의 특성(매립장의 형식, 규모, 사용기간 등)에 따라 크게 달라진다.   • 분뇨처리시설은 인간의 배설물을 처리하는 아주 중요한 시설이지만 처리 과정에서 발생하는 악취로 인해 사람들이 접근을 꺼리는 시설이다. 강서구 마곡동에 위치한 서남물재생센터 내 서남분뇨처리시설은 서울의 서부와 남부권에서 수거된 분뇨를 위생처리하는 시설이다. 그러나 30년 넘은 시설로 노후화는 물론 분뇨 발생량의 지속적인 증가로 인해 처리물량 부족 및 악취 발생으로 민원 발생이 잦음에 따라 서울시가 지난 2009년부터 시설 증설 및 현대화 사업을 추진하고 있다. 새롭게 조성되는 서남분뇨처리시설 증설 및 현대화 사업은 일 평균 4,000톤 처리 시설을 지하화 하여 신설하고, 기존 분뇨처리장은 철거되며, 지상은 공원화 하여 서울시민에게 개방된다. 서남분뇨처리장 지하화 사업이 2016년 6월 30일 완공되면 그동안 지역주민들이 꺼리던 분뇨처리시설이 친환경적으로 탈바꿈 하게 된다. 또한 서울시가 시행 중인 서남물재생센터 현대화, 마곡워터프런트, 마곡지구 개발 등의 사업과도 함께 진행 중이어서 이 사업이 완공되면 서남권 지역에 생태 수상 체육공원 등이 조성되어 여의도 면적의 약 2배에 달하는 친환경 웰빙도시로 변화된다. 본지는 서남분뇨처리시설 증설 및 현대화 사업에서 기계설비공사를 시공하고 있는 대윤환경(주)(대표 김우진) 장준수 현장소장을 만났다.

Emission Characteristics of Odor Compounds from Pneumatic Waste Collection Plants (생활폐기물 자동집하시설의 악취물질 배출특성)

  • The objective of this study was to investigate emission characteristics of odorous compounds from the pneumatic waste collection plants (namely, A and B sites). The air samples were collected from each site, at a carrier gas inside the plant and an exhaust gas, to analyze complex odor and 22 odorous compounds. Ammonia, sulfur compounds, and acetaldehyde were the critical odorous components generated in the plants studied. Characteristics of odor at exhaust outlet varied according to the type of odor control engineering. In the analysis of the odor contribution degree of odor components based on odor threshold, site A shows that the odor contribution of dimethyl sulfide was found to be 26%, acetaldehyde 18%, and methyl mercaptan 14%. For site B, methyl mercaptan was 56% and both hydrogen sulfide and dimethyl sulfide were 15%.

Removal Efficiency of the Deodorization Equipment and Characteristics of Malodor during the Process in Co-treatment of Sewage and Food Waste of Su-young Wastewater Treatment Plant in Busan (부산수영하수처리장 하수와 음식물쓰레기 병합처리 시 공정별 악취특성 및 후처리시설 효율평가)

  • Environmental issues are being paid more attention due to income growth, urban overcrowding, and population growth in Korea. Among the various environmental problems, odor damage is the one of the serious factors. To take example for food waste combination treatment in Su-young wastewater treatment plant in Busan, many complaints occurred because this plant locate around residential areas. The purpose of this work is not only to analyze odorous elements and their contributions but also to evaluate odor quotient (OQ), sum of odor quotient (SOQ), and treatment efficiency of bio-filter. The results of dilution sensory test of complex odor, grinder, leachate, hopper indicated higher order complex odors happen in July and August. The main odorous elements consisted of hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, methly mercaptan and acetaldehyde, which were analyzed by instrumental detection method, and methyl mercaptan was exceeded over 3,571 times of threshold. In addition, result of contribution of odor was methyl mercaptan (49.95 to 59.08%), hydrogen sulfide (20.43 to 29.27%), trimethylamine (8.82 to 13.42%) and acetaldehyde (9.17 to 11.35%). Other facilities were compared with the contribution of the odor using OQ and SOQ during the process. Sulfur compounds, acetaldehyde, and trimethylamine are high contribution of odor using OQ as well as odor intensity of grinding process is highest. As a result, sulfur compounds (e.g., methyl mercaptan and hydrogen sulfide) are highest for OQ and SOQ of grinding process is highest as 7,067. The removal efficiency of deodorization equipment was more than 90.00% in ammonia and amines, but the average efficiency of sulfur compounds was 53.51%. Thus, this facility is more higher contribution of acetaldehyde and trimethylamine than other treatment facilities. And food waste treatment in environmental area needs to consider appropriate capacity and refers to other bio-filter operating conditions.

  • 퇴비화는 유기물질이 분해되는 조건에 따라 호기성 퇴비화(Aerobic composting)와 혐기성 퇴비화(Anaerobic composting)로 대별된다. 음식물쓰레기 퇴비화 시설의 주요공정은 선별시설, 혼합 및 발효시설, 불순물제거장치, 숙성시설, 악취제거시설로 구성된다. 본 과제에서는 이와 같이 음식폐기물 처리공정 등에 널리 사용되는 퇴비화 공정에서 발생하는 악취를 제거하기 위한 연구를 진행하였다. 본 연구에서는 다양한 형태의 탈취 공정을 비교 검토하였으며, 세라믹 담체를 사용한 생물학적 처리에 초점을 맞추어 연구를 진행하였다. 이를 위하여 퇴비화 온도에 따른 유기물의 변화와 NaCl의 농도변화를 측정하여 퇴비화 진행에 따른 성분 변화를 예측하였다.

Study on the Characteristics of Odor Emitted from Swine Facilities (양돈시설에서 발생하는 악취특성에 관한 연구)

  • We studied the characteristics of odor emitted from 40 swine facilities across the country under various conditions like rearing densities, management style, ventilation system and swine manure handling characteristics, based on the olfactory and analytical evaluation. Odor concentrations (D/T) measured from swine facilities were respectively an average 4,055 D/T at liquid manure storage tanks on aeration, an average 913 D/T at slurry manure storage, an average 506 D/T at finishing swine facilities and an average 201 D/T at composting facilities. The higher rearing densities and slurry accumulation volume in finishing swine house, the more odor concentration (D/T) was increased. But The odor concentration (D/T) in finishing swine house did not show significant difference according to application of microbial additives. 9 odor compounds ($NH_3$, $H_2S$, MM, DMS, DMDS, PA, n-BA, n-VA, i-VA) were detected at swine facilities and the main odor compounds were volatile sulfur compounds such as $H_2S$, MM and volatile fatty acids compounds such as n-BA, n-VA, i-VA. 97.5% of swine farms surveyed in this study is located within 300 m of residential area and it is easy to bring odor complaints.

Isolation and Characterization of Ammonia-removing Bacteria from a Food-wastewater Treatment Facility (식품 폐수 처리 시설에서 암모니아성 악취제거 세균의 분리 및 특성 분석)

  • The bacteria responsible for the reduction of ammonia concentration in a food-wastewater treatment facility were isolated and their characteristics were analyzed. The isolated bacteria were closely related to the bacteria belonging to genus Citrobacter, Enterobacter, Buttiauxella, Shigella, and Aeromonas, which were found in gut of animals, indicating the isolated bacteria may come from the butchery-byproduct of pigs which is the main component of wastewater. When we monitored the concentration of nitrite and nitrate in the process, it was relatively constant, indicating the isolated bacteria reduce ammonia concentration through ammonia assimilation. Based on the removal efficiency of ammonia by the isolated bacteria, we concluded that they play a role in the reduction of odorous compounds.
