Efficiency Characteristics by Mixed Absorbents for the Removal of Odor Compounds in the Wet Scrubber (습식세정탑 내 악취가스 제거를 위한 복합흡수제의 효율 특성)

  • It was found that the absorbent mixed with 2-aminoethanol and others has been applied to remove them via chemical neutralization. The absorbent of natural second metabolites was achieved by a removal efficiency of 20~30% by itself depending on treatment conditions, but the complex absorbent mixed with 0.2% amine chemical provides the removal efficiency of over 98%. Optimal removal efficiencies have been examined against two major parameters of the temperature and pH to remove ammonia and hydrogen sulfide gases. The chemical analysis was also performed to analyze the composition of an essential oil by GC-MS. The monoterpenes in an essential oil reacted with odorous compounds by neutralization and their reaction mechanism was partially elucidated.

  • 감각적인 불쾌감을 야기하는 악취물질의 종류는 다양하며, 매우 낮은 농도에서도 감각기관을 자극할 뿐 아니라 물질간 반응이 복잡한 특징을 갖고있어 화학성분분석법과 함께 감각적인 자극수준을 평가하는 관능측정법을 병행하여 악취현상을 종합적으로 평가하게 된다 특히 매립지 등의 환경기초시설이 운영됨에 따라 나타나는 악취현상을 객관적으로 평가하기 위해서는 대기확산모델의 운영이 필요하며, 이를 위한 악취배출량 자료의 구축이 필요하게 된다. (중략)

  • In this study, the distribution patterns of major odorous compounds in ambient air were investigated in the areas surrounding the Ban-Wall industrial complex of Ansan, Korea (Aug. 2004 to Sep. 2005). The results indicated the environmental significance of several major odorous compounds which include carbonyl compounds, reduced sulfur compounds (RSC), and volatile organic compounds (VOC). When the results were compared on a diurnal basis, the afternoon time concentration of most odorous compounds were notably higher than their morning time counterparts. It also indicated that the odor concentrations differed greatly, in terms of spatial grouping scheme of data sets, such as between industrial area and non-industrial area. The comparison of spatial patterns indicated that the concentrations of most of the compounds at the industrial area were maintained at high concentration levels, compared to the surrounding areas. The overall results of this study thus suggest that the distribution of odorous compounds in a large industrial complex can exhibit a unique pattern of their own.

  • The simultaneous analysis of the odorous compounds designated by law in Korea and Japan was examined with the thermal desorber gas chromatography-mass spectrometry using one column. The approximate concentrations of trimethyl amine, acetaldehyde, methyl mercaptan and dimethyl sulfide were estimated. Styrene, dimethyl disulfide, propionaldehyde, n-butyl aldehyde, i-butyl aldehyde, n-valeraldehyde, i-valeraldehyde, ethyl acetate, toluene, xylene, methyl i-butyl ketone and i-butanol were detected at concentrations of the detection limits of their threshold values. As a typical example of simultaneous analysis of the odorous compounds, the volatile organic compounds emitted from compost procedure of food waste were concentrated and analyzed with thermal desorber/GC/MSD, and major malodorous compounds were estimated from the concentrations and threshold values of the detected components. From the result of analysis, 34 compounds were confirmed and among them, trimethyl amine, i-valeraldehyde, methyl mercaptan, methyl allyl sulfide, dimethyl sulfide, acetaldehyde, ethanol, n-butyaldehyde were expected to attribute to the odor in order of strength.

Characteristic Study for Methyl-mercaptain Removal by an Essential Oil (식물추출물을 이용한 메틸멀캡탄 제거 특성 연구)

  • Increasing public concerns over odors and air regulations necessitates the remediation of a wide range of odorous compounds for industrial purpose. Currently, wet scrubbing technique by neutralization using essential oils is utilized to treat methyl mercaptan odor. The chemical analysis is performed to analyze the composition of an essential oil by GC-MS. The objective of this study is to clarify the possibility of the neutralization of odors sprayed in the fixed bed and determine the removal efficiencies in the misty aerosol by different input odor concentration. It is found that methyl mercaptan is significantly removed in the wet scrubber, and their removal efficiency of methyl mercaptan is obtained by 98%.

  • 악취물질은 산업의 발전과 경제성장에 따른 생활수준의 향상으로 인하여 급격히 늘어나는 대기오염 물질 중의 하나로, 악취문제는 인간의 오감을 통해서 느끼는 감각공해의 대표적인 물질이다. 악취물질의 대표적인 성분인 암모니아는 무색의 자극성이 매우 크고 부식성이 있는 알칼리 기체로 1 ppm 정도에서 감지되어 다른 악취물질보다 감지되는 농도가 높다. 또한 그 배출원이 화학공장 등의 산업시설 뿐만 아니라 양돈, 양계장 등에서도 배출되어 우리 주위에서 쉽게 감지할 수 있는 물질이다. (중략)

  • The emission characteristics of odorous compounds discharged from the major environmental treatment facilities in Chungju were closely investigated by an ammonia passive sampler and by analyzing a questionnaire of the public complains. Amongst the four major emission sources, the manure treatment facility showed the highest concentration. The major components were sulfur compounds including H$_2$S, tri-methyl amine, and aldehydes. The foodwaste treatment processes releases sulfur compounds and aldehydes. Municipal waste water treatment facility emits a high concentration of acetaldehyde. It was found that the perceived odor level depends on the meteorological condition, and the odor intensity was higher at midnight than daytime.
