이 세상의 소리를 들을 수 없다면 어떨까? 적막강산에 있는 듯 세상이 조용해져 버린다면, 삶의 즐거움은 한없이 반감될 것이다. 아름다운 음악 소리, 사랑하는 사람의 목소리, 자연의 소리, 생활의 소리를 들을 수 있다는 것은 생활의 활력이자 기쁨이 된다. 소리를 듣게 해 주는 우리 몸의 소중한 기관인 '귀' 과연 소리는 어떻게 해서 들을 수 있고, 귀에 생길 수 있는 질환은 어떠한 것이 있을까? 또 소중한 귀의 건강을 지킬 수 있는 방법에는 어떠한 것들이 있는지 이번 호에서는 인체의 신비 귀에 대해서 울산의대 서울아산병원 이비인후과 이광선 교수와 충남대병원 이비인후과 박용호 교수의 도움말로 알아본다.

The Asan Bay area Korea is situated in an unbalance or water supply and demand relating to the Ansung, Sapkyo, Dangjin and Youmwha rivers and their estuary reservoirs. The multi-reservoir operation was studied by the Hierarchical Operation Model for Multi-reservoir System(HOMMS) assuming that these four estuary reservoirs were linked to each other in order. The result of this study shows that storage capacity deficiency in 2011 was estimated as 8 MCM in the Sapkyo and 31 MCMin Dae Ho estuary reservoir, respectively. In case of linking four reservoirs, the water deficiency will not occurs in all the reservoirs even if additional agricultural water of 78 MCM/yr was supplied. Total additional water demand for agricultural, municipal and industrial uses was estimated as 321.9 MCM/yr while additional supply by linking the reservoirs was estimated as 160.4 MCM/yr. 50% of additional demand. The remaining 161.5MCM/yr would be supplied transferring other watershed.

To study the distribution of ichthyoplankton in Asan Bay, samples were collected with a Bongo net at 8 stations from April, July and October of 1991, and January of 1992. The dominant fish eggs included the eggs of Nibea spp., Engraulis japonica, Callionymus spp., and others. The eggs of Nibea spp. and Engraulis japonica were $97.70\%$ and $1.30\%$ of the total egg abundance, respectively. Twenty three species of fish larvae were identified. The predominant species were gobiid fishes accounting for $32.84\%$ of the all fish larvae, and followed by Ammodytes personatus($16.69\%$). Other major species were Anguilla japonica, Nibea spp., Pampus echinogaster and Engrualis japonica. These 6 taxa constituted $90.40\%$ of the total larvae collected.

To evaluate the eutrophication status of the Asan Reservoir in Korea, physicochemical parameters were analyzed for samples of 19 sampling stations collected in the period from March to November in 1997. Water temperature was in the range of $8.3{\sim}35.3{\circ}^C$, with thermocline appearing in summer. Dissolved oxygen also showed similar verticle variation to temperature. Secchi depth was very shallow with a range of 0.1~1m. Suspended solids ranged from 11.3 mg/1 to 2143.3 mg/1, and seemed to be affected by the amount of rainfall and the standing stocks of phytoplankton. Nutrient concentrations were higher in tributaries, and decreased with downflow. Nutrients were low in the summer and early autumn when algal blooms occur, and high in the early spring and winter. The Trophic State Index showed that the Asan Reservoir is in a hypertrophic condition．

20년 전인 1993년 11월 12일 우리나라 대표 대형마트인 이마트(대표이사 허인철)가 탄생했다. 그리고 지금으로부터 4년 전인 2009년 12월 21일에는 아름다운 청풍명월의 고장인 충북 제천시에 제127호 이마트 매장이 들어서게 된다. 이마트 제천점은 연매출 600억 원의 점포로, 직영사원 140명과 매장협력임대사원 300명의 상생협력을 통해 제천시 강제동 유통업무지역의 대표적인 대형할인점으로 굳건히 자리 잡았다. 이곳 이마트 제천점의 안전을 책임지고 있는 권오일 안전팀장은 오픈 점포와 유독이 인연이 있으면서 '오픈 점포의 안전달인'이라는 별명을 가지고 있다. 2003년 신세계 이마트에 입사하여 청주점, 아산점, 그리고 현재 제첨점까지. 그가 몸담아 왔던 곳이 모두 오픈점이었는데, 오픈 점포에 맞는 안전시스템 구축에 탁월한 역량을 발휘하면서, 청주점 무재해 3배, 아산점 무재해 2배, 제천점 무재해 3배 달성 등을 이끌어왔다. 이로 인해 안전보건공단 공로표창장 및 상패(3회), 대전지방고용노동청 청주지청 및 충주지청장 표창(2회) 등 많은 공적을 남겼다.

This study analyze the hydrologic conditions and the effects of selected runoff characteristics as an attempt to estimate the optimal dredge amount for Asan Lake in Korea. The runoff feature was calculated by utilizing the water balance simulation from DIROM (Daily Irrigation Reservoir Operation Model), which allowed changes in landuse to be quantified using remote sensing for 14 years. The distribution of prospective sediment deposits was been tallied based on the changes in landuse, and quantity of incoming sediment estimated. From these findings, we were then able to simulate the fluctuation of water level, gauging the pumping days not already in use, to determine the frequency of the distribution for around the. requirement annual water storage and the changing water level. The optimal dredge amount was calculated on the basis of the distribution of frequency, taking into account the design criteria for agricultural water with the 10-year frequency of resistant capacity.

Idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) is characterized by increased intracranial pressure without detectable causes. Its main symptoms include headache, vision problems, and pulsatile tinnitus. Obesity is a major risk factor for IIH; therefore, weight reduction is required to ameliorate these symptoms in patients with obesity and IIH. We present four cases of obesity-related IIH whose symptoms improved through weight reduction. In three patients, the dose of IIH medications, such as acetazolamide, decreased. Based on these cases, we report that weight reduction contributes to the improvement of symptoms in patients with IIH as the main part of treatment. Further clinical research is necessary to evaluate the effects of weight reduction on IIH treatment in Korean patients.
