  • The aim of the present study was to establish validity for Dental Anxiety Scale in children by their drawings. Dental treatment was provied for 35 children in the ages of 4 to 8, using the quadrant approach. The children's anxiety arising during dental treatment was measured by Modified Sheskin's Criteria(Dental Anxiety Scale, DAS). After reliability analysis of Dental Anxiety Score, it was compared with Faces Pain Scale and was tested for their correlation. Thereafter the several factors having an effect on Dental Anxiety Scale were examined. A significant correlation(r=0.2610) was found between the two scales and Dental Anxiety Scale was high significantly in 4-6 score of Faces Pain Scale. The findings suggested that the Dental Anxiety Scale is a valid means of assessing child dental anxiety status in a clinical context and the Dental Anxiety Scale can be affected by 'Age', 'Gender' and 'Reaction in the past'.

  • This thesis was a phenomenological study of an after-school picture book making program for middle school students. This study attempted to establish a theoretical system for picture book making activity by analyzing the process of self-discovery and healing through the picture book making activity. The participants were six middle school students, the picture book making activity program was organized into five stages, and in-depth interviews of the study participants and their interpretation of picture books were described. According to the research results, first, the making activity of picturebooks can construct one's own world through hyper-reality that is more excessive than the original. Second, it can be said that the fearful existence of a monster has developed awareness and insight to view its own problems from various angles through defamiliarization. These results might be that the making activity of picturebooks is a way of revealing one's existence to the world, and through this, the process of exploring and constructing the meaning of oneself and daily life. Discussion was made based on this about the creation of another world where the picturebook making activity is different from the original, the stimulating effect of the subconscious mind through the defamiliarization device, and the establishment of self-existence in picturebook creation.

  • In this paper, we propose a computerized psychological test system for art therapy. The proposed system with the computerized devices can measure various information, such as colors, characters of lines, pen pressure, size of objects, position of objects, and so on, from the drawn pictures by the child. The measured information can be analyzed to extract more meaningful information about the child and to provide more effective remedial information for art therapy. Art therapy essentially has a potential drawback that the results of test can be influenced by therapist's subjectivity. The results can be different from the method of gathering information, the method of analysis, the interpretation of analyzed data, and even the therapist's academic backgrounds. Therefore, in this paper, we focus on what information needs to be measured and how to measure the data from drawn pictures and propose a computerized psychological test system for art therapy. The proposed system can measure and analyze various information from the drawn picture by the child. Since the proposed system can provide valuable psychological information of child in the form of quantitative data, it can be exploited as a new method for art therapy.
