Given that music is not part of the national/regular curriculum and how music therapy is a new endeavor in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), this study aimed to investigate parents' perceptions of the music therapy given to their children with disabilities in the UAE. A survey was administered to 33 parents of children with disabilities living in Sharjah, UAE. The survey consisted of 43 questions related to characteristics of the music therapy sessions that the participants' children received and the parents' satisfaction with their children's music therapy. The results showed that participants reported a high level of satisfaction with the music therapy provided to their children. In terms of their participation in music therapy sessions, 33.3% of parents co-participated in music therapy sessions with their children, and 45.5% of parents observed their children's sessions. Parents who had direct participation in music therapy sessions were significantly more satisfied with their children's music therapy (p < .05) and perceived greater positive changes in their children as a result of the therapy (p < .05). Parents perceived their children as being able to positively respond to music, leading to positive changes in behavior. Despite these benefits, participants also reported the need for formal opportunities for family members to learn about the applications and outcomes of music therapy. The findings of this study supports the implementation of music therapy throughout the UAE and point to the need for future studies as music therapy expands across the country.

The purpose of this study was to examine factors influencing emotional and behavior characteristics among children in multicultural families. The factors include demographic and psychological characteristics of married immigrant women. Surveys were distributed to 200 married immigrant women and, 148 surveys were returned and analyzed. The findings are as follows: first, emotional and behavioral characteristics of children were significantly associated with the age of their mothers and household income. Second, acculturative stress in married immigrant women was significantly related to the overall behavior characteristics of their children. Third, children whose mothers experienced a higher level of acculturative stress and were of older age showed internalizing problems. The level of Korean language proficiency and marital satisfaction were also important factors influencing sub-categories of internalizing and externalizing problems aside from acculturative stress. Implications and suggestions to develop preventative programs for emotional and behavioral problems of children in multicultural families are discussed.

This study examines the effect of children's school satisfaction on academic achievement using the Seoul Children Panel Study data. More specifically, this study aims to add new knowledge to understaning the causal relationship between school satisfaction and academic achievement by taking into account of temporal order of the events of interest. In the analysis, we examine the effect of school satisfaction at the 4th- and 5th- grades on academic achievement at the 6th grade while controlling for the other factors including the level of academic achievement at the 4th grade. The results show that children's school satisfaction significantly affects their academic achievement. The findings of this study have implications for the school social welfare programs that attempt to improve academic achievement of children by raising the level of school satisfaction among children.

This study analyzed (1) the utility of telepractice in language assessment and (2) parental satisfaction for telepractice. Young children with language disabilities conducted REVT through both face-to-face and telepractice system. The correlation and paired t-test were analyzed. The results showed (1) the strong correlations between telepractice and face-to-face assessment scores. However, the telepractice score was significantly lower than face-to-face in the receptive vocabulary test and (2) the overall average of parental satisfaction for telepractice was 3.6 out of 5 points. The parents showed the highest satisfaction in terms of time and convenience of telepractice while the equivalence between telepractice and face-to-face item was the lowest. This study suggested the possibility and considerations in applying telepractice of language assessment in Korea.

The present study was designed to evaluate the effects of staff training in PBS on the behaviors of staff and children with developmental disabilities in an inpatient unit. The perceived significance of children's problem behavior and staff's caring stress significantly decreased with the intervention. A satisfaction survey reported staff's high satisfaction with the process and results of staff training. This study suggests that PBS is a socially valid and positive intervention with problem behavior of children with developmental disabilities. The implications and limitations of this study, with directions for future research, are also discussed.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating effect of depression on the relationship between self-esteem and life satisfaction of children from low-income class. The subjects were 385 children from low-income class in two municipalities. As research methods, frequency, descriptive, correlation statistical analysis using SPSS 20.0 program was conducted. The hypothesized model was tested using structural equation model to identify that model fits best to the collected data. The analysis indicates that depression had direct and negative effects on the life satisfaction. Depression mediates partially the relationship between self-esteem and life satisfaction. This study provides theoretical and practical implications for increasing self-esteem had positive effects on decreasing depression and pressing for improvement of life satisfaction level of children from low-income class.

The purpose of this study is to identify the level of father-child attachment and to explore possible factors that may influence such attachment level in marital satisfaction, marital conflict, parenting stress, and parenting attitudes. The data were collected using a structured questionnaire from 131 fathers living in B city, between February 16 and August 16 in 2014. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statics, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression with SPSS 21.0 program. The mean of father-child's attachment was $3.79{\pm}0.47$. The level of father-child attachment was different according to monthly income (f=5.25, p<.010). There was a significantly positive correlation between father-child attachment and father's marital satisfaction (r=.28, p=.001). Father-child attachment was negatively correlated with father's marital conflict (r=-.23, p=.01), parenting stress (r=-.44, p<.001), acceptance-rejection (r=-.64, p<.001), and control (r=-.30, p<.001), with statistical significance. The acceptance-rejection attitude of father had significant effects on father-child attachment and accounted for 40% of the total variance of the attachment. These results indicated that decreasing the father's acceptance-rejection attitude could be effective in improving father-child attachment.

Objective : This study is to verify effect of a sensory integration (SI) intervention on sensory processing of children with sensory modulation disorder (SMD), and to explore how the SI intervention affect play, socialization, occupational performance and occupational satisfaction of those children. Method : Five children with developmental disabilities living in metropolitan were diagnosed as SMD by the Sensory History Interview (SHI) and Short Sensory Profile (SSP). The SMD children undergone the 48 sessions of 50 min intervention twice in a week for six months and took the Revised Knox Preschool Play Scale(RKPPS), Social maturity test, Canadian Occupational Performance Measure(COPM), and Japanese Sensory Inventory Revised(JSI-2) before- and after the intervention. The result data analyzed by the Wilcoxon matched-pair signed rank test. Results : All data of post-intervention differed significantly; RKPPS(Z=-2.023, p=.043), Social maturity test(Z=-2.023, p=.043); occupational performance(Z=-2.023, p=.043); satisfaction(Z=-2.032, p=.042); and tactile system of JSI-2(Z=-2.032, p=.042). Conclusions : The results advocate that sensory integration intervention is effective in improving tactile processing, play, socialization, occupational performance, and occupational satisfaction of child with SMD. It is found that sensory integration intervention improves not only one's occupational performance but also underlying components of the performance. In order to generalize this conclusion, further studies need to be done with more number of subjects and consideration of environmental factors. Striving for more reliable and valid methods of data collection is also suggested.

본 연구는 국내 아동 전용 인터넷 검색서비스 야후꾸러기와 쥬니어네이버를 이용자 중심에서 비교, 평가하고, 두 검색서비스를 이용하는데 있어 아동이 나타내는 문제점을 밝히고자 하는 것이다. 정량적 연구를 통해 야후꾸러기와 쥬니어네이버의 검색효율성, 검색결과의 정확률, 검색결과의 연결성, 검색결과의 유용성, 검색서비스의 만족도를 이용자 중심에서 비교, 평가하고, 정성적 연구를 통해 이용자가국내 아동 전용 인터넷 검색서비스를 이용하여 자신이 찾고자 하는 검색질의로 검색하는 과정을 분석한 후 아동들이 인터넷 검색서비스를 이용하는데 갖는 문제점들을 밝힌다. 이 연구를 통해 아동의 정보 요구가 최대한 반영된 인터넷 검색서비스를 개발하는데 기여하고자 한다.

The purpose of this study was to examine differences in emotional intelligence, social competence and school life satisfaction between institutionalized and home reared children. In total, 584 grade 4, 5, and 6 students were used for this study, 305 of which were institutionalized and 279 home reared. Collected data were subjected to descriptive and comparative statistical analysis. Significant differences were found in emotional intelligence, social competence and school life satisfaction between institutionalized and home reared children. Positive correlations were established among emotional intelligence, social competence and school life satisfaction for both groups of children.
