The purpose of this study is to develop a faceted classification scheme linked with a thesaurus(FCT) to more effectively organize documents according to subject, by transforming the current Korean Decimal Classification system(KDC) into a faceted classification scheme and linking it with Korea’s National Library Subject Headings. This combination should represent complex subjects more clearly, allow users to change citation order, and facilitate the addition of new subjects to the KDC scheme. Furthermore, by linking a thesaurus to the classification scheme, it is possible to share facets and expand the conceptual level of headings through the thesaurus descriptors.

The purposes of this study are to review characteristics and research areas of environmental studies; to compare and analyze environmental studies in research classifications and Korean societies from Korea Research Foundation(KRF) as well as decimal classification systems such as KDC, DDC, NDC and to suggest several modifications for environmental studies in KDC for the next edition. First of all, environmental philosophy, environmental sociology, environmental education, environmental toxicology, environmental architecture, and environmental geography are suggested to add to the main schedule in KDC and -0276 green technology(environmental technology) is suggested to add to Table 1. Standard subdivision. And new classification numbers for environmental law and environmental public administration are suggested in law and public administration.

Libraries have long experience of applying classification schemes to resources - chiefly books. The ultimate goals of classification are systematic shelving of books and ease of user's access. In order to achieve these goals, books about a particular field of knowledge should be shelved together and near each other. If not so, it is classification error. The focus of this study is, therefore, on analysing the classification error in Korea public libraries and suggesting some alternatives.

This study investigated general problems concerning the physical education field in the KDC 6th edition based on comparative analysis of academic characteristics and classification system, and suggested some ideas for the improvements of them. Results of this study are is summarized as follows. First, while the academic classification divided items focusing on theoretical disciplines such as physical education, sociology, or business administration, the library classification divided them into details according to sport entries. Second, We examined the classification status of the physical education field of the collection database in the National Library of Korea. The number of physical education field data was 38,585, and of them, that of books having classification codes starting with 692(physical education, sports) was 22,870. This shows that data actually have been published mainly based on academic characteristics rather than sport entries, which causes a problem due to concentration of many data on one classification code. Therefore, this study analyzed keywords around these classification codes. Third, modified classification of items was basically performed through the academic system of the physical education and the keyword analysis, and the typical KDC classification system was maintained as much as possible.

In this thesis, we designed a experimental learning-teaching plan of 'decimal fraction concept' at the 4-th grade level. We rest our plan on two basic premises. One is the fact that a essential concept of decimal fraction is 'polynomial of which indeterminate is 10', and another is the fact that the origin of decimal fraction is successive measurement activities which improving accuracy through decimal partition of measuring unit. The main features of our experimental learning-teaching plan is as follows. Firstly, students can experience a operation which generate decimal unit system through decimal partitioning of measuring unit. Secondly, the decimal fraction expansion will be initially introduced and the complete representation of decimal fraction according to positional notation will follow. Thirdly, such various interpretations of decimal fraction as 3.751m, 3m+7dm+5cm+1mm, $(3+\frac{7}{10}+\frac{5}{100}+\frac{1}{1000})m$ and $\frac{3751}{1000}m$ will be handled. Fourthly, decimal fraction will not be introduced with 'unit decimal fraction' such as 0.1, 0.01, 0.001, ${\cdots}$ but with 'natural number+decimal fraction' such as 2.345. Fifthly, we arranged a numeration activity ruled by random unit system previous to formal representation ruled by decimal positional notation. A experimental learning-teaching plan which presented in this thesis must be examined through teaching experiment. It is necessary to successive research for this task.

Archives and Records Management Studies is being developed its own independent domains. However, the existing library classification scheme such as the KDC don't properly reflect the characteristics of Archives and Records Management Studies. This classification scheme has the irrational part of the arrangement of the subject items and should be required to rearrange subdivision of the subject areas. In this study, According to the characteristics of Archives and Records Management Studies, It is set up 8 subject areas, Records Management (General), the law and polices of records management, the collection and appraisal of the records, the documentary organization, recording information services, preservation of the records, archives management, archives and records center, etc. After analyzing the major contemporary library classification system such as KDC, DDC, NDC, UDC, LCC, then It is suggested that improvement measures through analyzing classification status and keywords of the Archives and Records Management data contained in Korean National Bibliography. In Archives and records management studies, The contents of the eight subject areas related to the field are changed to allow integration with KDC 028.

This study is designed for library classification of the tourism. Contents studies are summarized as follows. First, an analysis of the current status of classification and items by a key work 'tourism' in KDC, NDC, DDC, UDC, and LCC which are main library classification tables today indicates that they are too limited to travelling and tourism, tourism policy, and tourist attractions etc. Second, we divided areas studies newly based on the theoretical books in order to extract the classification items of the tourism field, and comparatively analyzed main library classification systems today. We divided basic categories of the classification items into four including tourism general, tourists, tourism attraction, tourism media. Third, a new classification was designed for library classification of the tourism field. Basically, the tourism field was assigned to the main four items and the classification items which were weighted or scattered were adjusted.

수는 도대체 어디서 생겨났을까? 언제쯤부터 어떤 필요에 의해 인간이 사용하기 시작하였을까? 학생들이 이러한 호기심을 한 번쯤 가져본다면 얼마나 좋을까? 그러나 학생들은 십진기수법의 체계에 너무나 잘 길들어져 있기 때문에 그 고마움에 대해서 잘 모른다. 조류즈 이프라는 '신비로운 수의 역사'에서 인간 지성의 환상적 모험이 만들어낸 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 0에 대하여 불의 사용이나 전기의 발명만큼이나 혁신적인 사건으로 취급하고 있으며 수의 역사는 인간의 보편적인 지성이 이루어 낸 영원히 무너지지 않는 바벨탑으로서, 인종차별까지 극복해낸 위대한 가능성임을 가슴 뿌듯하게 전해 준다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 이러한 인류 역사의 놀라운 소산인 수의 위대함을 깨닫기 위하여 세계 여러 문명들 속에서 숫자가 생겨난 연유, 그 표기 방법 및 그 이후부터의 발달 모습을 학생들이 탐구해 보게 하기 위하여 기수법과 수체계에 대한 지도 방법에 대하여 연구하고자 한다.

The purpose of this study is to improve the faceted navigation function of next-generation library catalogs(NGC) using the tables in a classification scheme. Because the tables provide forms or contents of materials systematically, faceted navigation based on the tables can be as effective as faceted navigation based on language, publishing date, or class-level subject facet. Therefore, class numbers based on the Korean Decimal Classification (KDC) were examined and the characteristics of schedules and tables were analyzed. As a result, suggestions to improve faceted navigation was provided. Moreover, the method using the tables does not need additional resources to derive facets because the facet analysis process is always carried out in the classification process.

Based upon its variety and specialties, Korean food has the potential power to become globalized, and a national public relations strategy for global competitiveness. In this process, a proper organization of information about Korean foods should be given a priority. The purposes of this study are to analyze the classification status and case studies of Korean foods in Korean libraries, to understand how much Korean foods are represented in the classification scheme and what should be improved, and to suggest a modified expansion of DDC 22. In so doing, an attempt is made to provide some evidences of the revision of DDC 22 as well as useful practices of modified DDC 22 in Korean libraries.
