Education is essential for specialists in charge terminal care of cancer patients. In the second 10-year plan to conquer cancer under the Cancer Control Act, the Korean government announced a plan to train more hospice and palliative care (HPC) specialists based on quantitative HPC expansion. Specifically, the government aims to develop e-learning programs to foster social workers in HPC, following those offered to doctors and nurses. In HPC, social workers have served a vital role in helping patients overcome psychological and social issues. As professionals, they have carried out their responsibilities and played their part in the field to help HPC to take root and be institutionalized in Korea. To date, it has been difficult to obtain practical knowledge and skills for social workers due to the lack of systematic training program. Development of an e-learning program for social workers, as proposed in this study, should strengthen social workers in charge of terminally-ill cancer patients in terms of their identity, expertise, and practical skills in clinical setting and improve their access to education. We also hope the program to be further developed by the government by introducing an education system that offers refresher courses to guarantee social workers' continued expertise through.
Using meta-analysis, this study aims to examine individual, familial, and social support variables in relation to acculturative stress by in order to draw implications for social welfare practice and policy. For the purpose of this study, authors selected 37 studies between 2000 and 2013. Results are as follows: First, acculturative stress of marriage-based migrant women showed statistically significant average effect size in individual, familial, and social support variables. Second, each variable showed at least 'medium' and above size. Further, marital satisfaction and social support showed 'large effect size' and life satisfaction, family relations and functions, self-esteem, psychological well-being, and depression showed 'near large effect size.' Third, when moderating effect was examined, Korean language proficiency, economic difficulty, depression, and self-esteem among individual variables showed differences in effect size according to socio-economic variables. Meanwhile, marital satisfaction and couple relationship among familial variables and social support among social variables showed differences in effect size according to socio-economic variables. Based on these results, authors suggested ways to prevent or reduce acculturative stress among marriage-based migrant women in Korea.
The purpose of this study is to generate a substantive theory that accounts for the social readaptation of the women who have engaged in prostitution and propose a practical program for them. We used the grounded theory developed by Strauss and Corbin(1990). Raw data were collected through the in-depth interview, documents and observation. We used constant comparative method for the data analysis. The nine women who had the exprience of prostitution have participated in this study. As a result of the data analysis, in open coding were generated 116 concepts, 29 subcategories and 12 categories, In axial coding the outcomes of a paradigm model were as follows. The causal conditions were named 'hostile environment' and 'the self endowed stigma'. The phenomenon turned out to be 'living as an anonymous being'. The contextual conditions were named 'cohesion of family', 'being pushed' and 'shrinked emotion'. The intervening conditions were presented to be 'desire of self restoration as a social being', 'reactionary reconstruction'. The action/interaction strategies turned out to be 'shifting of social status', 'neighbor alliance'. The consequences were presented to be 'psychological wayfarer' and 'tentacular living'. In selective coding we found a core category, 'repetition of leaving and returning from the life world'. Based on the phenomenon, two types of participants life attitudes were found as follows : present hesitating type, self concealing type. Following the adove results, We finally suggested the need to develope a community oriented case management model.

The aim of this study is to suggest the direction of psychosocial intervention by investigation. To this end, this study examined the moderating effect of peer attachment and patients' positive attitude on the relationship between social withdrawal and life satisfaction of adolescents. Data was obtained from the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey, and study subjects included 2,409 first grade middle school students. Data was analyzed using the SPSS 25 program, and frequency analysis, descriptive statistical analysis, correlation analysis and hierarchical regression analysis were conducted. The results of the study are as follows: First, psychological withdrawal in the social relationship had a significant negative effect on the life satisfaction of adolescents. Second, peer attachment did not have a moderating effect on the relationship between social withdrawal and life satisfaction of adolescents. Third, positive parenting attitude had a moderating effect on the relationship between social withdrawal and life satisfaction of adolescents. The high-positive parenting attitude group showed less decline in life satisfaction even if social withdrawal was high compared to the low-positive parenting attitude group. Based on these results, we provide effective direction of intervention to elevate the life satisfaction of adolescents experiencing social withdrawal.
This article aimed to test whether specific social values (i.e., achievement vs. benevolence) could cause changes in decision making on bio-ethical issues. Study 1 investigated value preferences among young Korean college students according to Schwartz's (1992) model of social values. According to the results, the preference for achievement value was correlated negatively with the preference for benevolence value. In Study 2, following a sentence completion task which was conducted to trigger specific values, the participants had to indicate their ethical decisions regarding animal experiment, euthanasia, organ transplantation, biotechnology, sex selection and human cloning, Irrespective of the value priming (achievement vs. benevolence), there were more utilitarian decisions about animal experiment, euthanasia and organ transplantation. In contrary, there were more deontological decisions about sex selection and human cloning. Study 3 introduced a word completion task to assess implicit value preferences. The results showed that the participants with implicit preferences for the benevolence value in the condition of benevolence value priming were more frequently against animal experiments and organ transplantation than those with implicit value preferences for the achievement value. Social values are discussed for understanding one's bioethical decision making.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the influences of impulsivity, family' gambling and the distance from the gambling facilities, on adolescents' gambling activity, gambling belief and gambling motivation in the future. A total of 567 high school students in Jeongseon and Taeback(the Kangwon-Land Casino area or near the Kangwon-Land Casino), in Gwhachoen City(near the Seoul Race Park), and in Whachoen(far from the gambling facilities area) were participated in this study, and completed the questionnaires for measuring adolescents' gambling activity, gambling belief and gambling motivation in the future, impulsivity and family gambling behaviors. Results showed there were positive relationships impulsivity, family' gambling, adolescents' gambling activity, gambling belief and gambling motivation in the future. There were significant relationships among dwelling areas, gambling behaviors, and beliefs. Especially, adolescents in Jeongseon have more likely gambling behaviors, and the gambling beliefs were more dysfunction than ones in Gwhachoen and Whachoen. And adolescents in Whachoen had the lowest gambling motivation. Also, the correlation between the impulsivity and gambling-related behaviors was significant. The implication of this study was as fellow. When planing the politic intervention for preventing the problem gambling in the future it was necessary to consider the distance from the gambling facilities as environmental component and impulsivity as personal component.
The present study was attempted to compare duality in value structure and judgment system between youth, adults and North Korean defectors. A questionnaire was administered to 150 college students(Men: 89, Women: 61), 155 adults(Men: 80, Women: 75) and 80 North Korean defectors(Men: 39, Women: 41). Participants rated their values, behavior and South Korean behavior (or North Korean behavior for North Korean defectors) as a whole both on the 7 dimensions relevant to characteristics indigenous to Korean society and on their opposite 7 dimensions characteristic of Western culture. Results indicated that defectors marked the highest score on the traditional value dimensions, and yet youth ranked the first for the western value systems. Also, duality in value systems was the most severe for the defectors. In relation to dual judgement system in behavior, both young and old generation judged Korean behavior more negatively than their own. This was also the case for the North Korean defectors. Those findings were discussed in terms of cultural changes in Korean society.
This study investigated subtypes of men who batter, and explored the differences among them. It was based on 217 subjects from all around the nation who received legal punishment. In the analysis of the typology, we specifically tested whether the Holtzworth-Munroe and Stuart proposed typology was verified. The results of the cluster analysis revealed support for their theoretical distinction for three types of abusers. These results imply that Holtzworth-Munroe and Stuart's batterer typology is applicable to Korean batterers to some degree. Type 1 men demonstrated the lowest levels of physical and psychological abuse toward their wives and were the least likely to have had a history of child abuse or alcohol problems. These men had lower MCMI scores and did not show any extraordinary personality traits. Men in this category were violent only against their wives, had relatively liberal sex role attitudes and had the most satisfaction in their intimate relationships. Type 2 men were violent only at home, using a moderate level of violence. These men had very high levels of dependency on others and showed a borderline, avoident or passive-aggressive personality. The amount of alcohol consumption was similar to Type 1, but scores of jealousy, self-esteem, and attitudinal variables were similar to Type 3 men. They lacked assertiveness skills and reported the least marital satisfaction. Type 3 men used the most severe violence and were violent both inside and outside the home. These men showed signs of antisocial and aggressive personality. They had experienced frequent physical abuse during childhood, were the most likely to abuse alcohol and had lower self-control. Type 3 were the most traditional in their views of women's roles and had attitudes supporting violence. Based upon the study findings, practical implications of enhancing treatment efficacy were considered.
Entering the 21st century, the flow of society and culture is emerging as a cultural phenomenon in which one experiences, enjoys, and experiences on one's own. This trend has emerged as community dance, which has been active since 2010. Community dances can be targeted by anyone and can be divided into children's, adult and senior citizens' dances depending on the characteristics and age of the group, allowing them to work in various age groups. It also refers to all kinds of dances for the happiness and self-achievement of everyone who can promote gender, race and religion health or meet the needs of expression and improve their physical strength at meetings by age group, from preschoolers to senior citizens. Community dance is a dance activity in which everyone takes advantage of their leisure time and voluntarily participates in joyous activities, making it expandable to lifelong education and social learning. It is a voluntary community gathering conducted by experts for the general public. The definition of community dance can be said to be the aggregate of physical activities that enrich an individual's daily life and enhance their social sense to create a bright society, while individuals achieve the goals of health promotion and aesthetic education. In the contemporary community dance, the dance experience in body and creativity as self-expression reflects the happiness perspective by exploring the positive psychological experience and influence of the participants in the process of participation, and participants have continued networking through online offline to enjoy the dance culture. Although research has been conducted in various fields for 10 years since the boom in community dance began, the actual methodology of the program has been insufficient to present the Feldenkrais Method, hoping that it will be used as a methodology necessary for local community dance, and will be used as part of the educational effects and choreography creation methods of artists that can improve the physical functional aspects of dance and give a sense of psychological stability.
A comparison was made regarding illness behavior among patients with somatoform disorders, depressive disorders and psychosomatic disorders. The subjects consisted of out-patients with somatoform disorders(N=52), depressive disorders(N=52) and psychosomatic disorders(N=51). illness behavior was assessed by illness Behavior Assessment Schedule and the questionnaire about help-seeking behavior. The patients with somatoform disorders and psychosomatic disorders more often affirmed the presence of somatic disease, were more likely to have phobia of disease, had more preoccupation with ideas of disease and more frequently shopped around oriental clinics than the patients with depressive disorders. The patients with somatoform disorders more often attributed its cause to physical factors, less often attributed the origin of affective disturbance to psychological causes, showed Less depression and irritability, and were less likely to accept psychiatric treatment recommended by other physicians than depressive patients. The patients with somatoform disorders were more likely to report having been told that they suffered from a mild illness than those with psychosomatic disorders. The patients with somatoform disorders with psychological problems tended to inhibit expression of their emotion. Female patients with somatoform disorders more often affirmed the presence of psychological disorder and attributed its cause to psychological factors than male ones. These results suggest that in illness behavior, patients with somatoform disorders are different from depressive patients, whereas the former patients are similar to psychosomatic patients except the discrepancy between therapists and patients regarding evaluation of their symptoms. Thus, it is emphasized that first, therapists need to approach patients with somatoform disorders somatically with understanding of their underlying need to deny psychological problems, followed by either psychological or biopsychosocial approach.
