  • In this study, 85 studies on probability education from 2000 to 2020 were analyzed by publishing year, journals, research subjects, and research topics. Especially, fundamental probabilistic ideas presented by Batanero et al.(2016) were applied to examine which topics were dominant in domestic probability education research. As a result, it was found that there has been a few research in probability education in Korea during the past 20 years, and the number of human subject studies was slightly more than the number of non-human subject studies. In addition, the analysis of research topics according to the fundamental probabilistic ideas showed that two topics, conditional probability and independence and combinatorial enumeration and counting, were dominant in domestic probability education research. However, while both conditional probability and independence and combinatorial enumeration and counting are introduced to young children using intuitive manners in international probability education research, subjects related to these topics were primarily high school students and pre and in-service teachers. Based on the results of this study, the implications for the goal and the direction of future probability education research were discussed.

  • In a good class, the elements that make up the class are organically related as a system. The goal of the class is to foster the ability of students to fully understand the educational content of the subject and then apply it to their professional areas. Therefore, for ideal classes, it is necessary to design students to acquire the necessary theories and apply them practically. The question We always ask ourselves during lectures is how to effectively give large-scale lectures for students. This is also the concern of all professors in charge of large-scale lectures opened across various major fields. Now is the time to find ways to effectively give lectures on a large scale. We studied how it is most effective to design and implement various factors such as lectures, presentation and group organization, assignment, group presentation, professor's group presentation guidance, lecture materials posting, questions and answers, group presentation feedback, final report writing, and grade calculation.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest a direction for efficient teaching and learning idiomatic expressions in Korean to improve the vocabulary of Korean language learners. In order to make learning more interesting and enhance learning effectiveness for Korean language learners, the drama, , which was popular in Korea, was used as educational material. Since idomatic language is formed and used based on Korean history, culture, and social background, dramas containing Korean culture and sentiments can be said to be suitable materials for the teaching and learning of Korean idiomatic expressions. By analyzing the drama , 277 significant vocabularies were extracted from the drama based on vocabulary actually used. Among these, 124 idiomatic expressions were extracted after excluding overlapping expressions. Idiomatic expressions extracted in this way were classified based on vocabulary used more than 2 times. In addition, in order to select idiomatic expressions suitable for the level of the learners, 46 final expressions for Korean language education were selected considering the difficulty of vocabulary. Lastly, when the materials selected in the drama were used for education, the precautions for teaching and learning, and the direction of education on idiomatic language were classified into elementary, intermediate, and advanced grades and presented.

  • This study explored the effects of pre-service elementary teachers' inquiries into science class dilemmas. By closely examining the characteristics of the pre-service teachers' inquiry processes and changes in their educational decisions, the effectiveness of using dilemmas as part of teacher education was determined. Twenty fourth-year university pre-service teachers participated and conducted inquiries into science class dilemmas over seven weeks. Based on pre- and post-questionnaires, KWHL tables, inquiry reports, discussions, and group class presentations, the major factors that influence the pre-service teacher's decision-making changes were extracted. The pre-service teachers found the science inquiry process meaningful when exploring the science topics covered in the dilemmas, and claimed that elementary school students would be able to engage in meaningful science explorations if they learned science through inquiry. Furthermore, the pre-service teachers explored the thinking processes and background knowledge of the students in different ways. Documents such as teacher's guides and the curriculum were examined and the students' thought processes were identified through interviews with the teachers and students, which were found to reflect their educational decision-making. Moreover, it was recognized by the pre-service teachers that depending on the situation, alternative teaching methods were possible. The focus on the unstructured dilemma problems provided the pre-service teachers with problem-solving situations that triggered scientific inquiry and exploration of student thinking and revealed the complexity of science teaching and learning. Based on these results, the teacher education implications for using dilemma cases are discussed.

  • In this paper, some characteristics of actual state of school mathematics terms in north Korean mathematics textbooks, which were issued in 2000-2002, are discussed. In north Korea, terms are expressed in north Korean orthography. Many Chinese style terms are translated into pure Korean terms, but there are still so many Chinese style terms. It is known that there is deep gap between north and south Korean terms. But actually it is not. This means that integration of north and south Korean terms can be easily realized. It is known that translating Chinese style terms into pure Korean term can be useful in mathematics teaching and learning, but north Korean experiences tell that we should act with prudence in doing so. We need sufficient discussion in case of north Korean terms which are totally different with south Korean terms. Semantical analysis is needed with preference survey.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify how didactic transposition (teaching and learning methods) has occurred and developed in the teaching of graphs in elementary school mathematics textbooks for third and fourth graders according to the previous and current curricula. In this study, we analyzed the lesson units on bar graphs and line graphs in mathematics textbooks for each curriculum, from the fifth curriculum to the 2015 revised curriculum. We also investigated the implication of statistics education deriving from didactic transposition (teaching and learning methods). We found that the timing of teaching bar and line graphs was rarely changed as the curriculum has changed. In addition, the use of technology was not actively implemented in school statistics, although the curriculum emphasized the use of technology in statistical education. Lastly, the textbooks did not address the variability and distribution of data and the sample or sampling process, which are significant statistical concepts. Based on the findings of this study, we suggest how to teach statistical graphs and what to consider for the next mathematics textbook.

  • Online collaborative teaming, which has emerged as a new type of education in knowledge-based society, is being discussed actively in the areas of action learning at companies and project-based learning and inquiry-based learning at schools. It regards as an effective method for improving learners practical and highly advanced problem solving abilities, and for stimulating their absorption into learning through pursuing common goals of learning together. Different from individual learning, however, collaborative learning involves complicated processes such as organizing teams, setting common goals, performing tasks and evaluating the outcome of team activities .Thus, it is difficult for a teacher to promote and evaluate the whole process of collaborative learning, and it is necessary to develop systems to support collaborative learning. Therefore, in order to monitor and promote interaction among learners in the process of collaborative learning, the present study developed an extensible collaborative teaming supporting agent (ECOLA) in online learning environments.

  • Since the mid 1990s, in response to rapid changes in Geography subject. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) has been in central position in the UK geography curriculum. This paper discusses the roles of GIS for Geography subject curriculum and addresses main development within UK Geography curriculum since the 1990s, and investigates appropriate GIS curriculum that encourages teaching and learning of geography subject within the curriculum. To obtain these research purposes. this paper starts with the brief description of the Geography subject in the National Curriculum for England (1998) with the recent changes of Geography subject in the national exams (GSCE and A level) in the UK. This result represents a clear situation of Geography subject in the UK school education and also provides a new motivation that brings new challenges of information technology driven curriculum within the Geography subject. In turn, the interactive relationship of Geography and GIS within the current Geography curriculum is described by which the discussion of relevant GIS skills within Geography curriculum is followed. To propose the case studies that show the use of GIS for Geography education at school, Key Stages 2, 3, and 4 examples are discussed. Finally, this paper concludes with the issues that GIS benefits encourage geography teaching and learning and that potential applications can support not only the development of new teaching tools and learning strategies in geography education at schools, but also contribute to extend geographical skills and capabilities to collaborate with other subjects in school education in Korea.
