  • It was used boundary element method(BEM) and analysed axisymmetric problem to solve hydraulic cylinder for large vessel acting uniform internal pressure(25N/m super(2)) within elastic limit. This paper was utilized the carbon steel tubes for machine structural purposed model, inner radius was 150mm and outer radius was 250mm, axial length was semi-infinite and the isoparametric element was used. The important results obtained in this study were summarized as follows. Radial, tangential and shearing stress occured the maximum stresses(48, -20 and 34MPa) at the inner radius and the minimum stresses(32, -4 and 18MPa) at the outer radius of the hydraulic cylinder for large vessel. But negative signs have meaning compressive stress and stress diminution ratio was about 0.15MPa/mm. The use of isoparametric element raised accuracy and the increment of input data lessened the error in internal point but computer run-time was increased. The double node was improved the internal solutions to settle discontinuity at corner and the double exponential formula lessened error of stress value at boundary neighborhood. And then coincidence between the analytical and exact results is found to be fairly good, showing that the proposed analytical by BEM is reliable.

  • Lecithin can self-assemble into reverse spherical micelles in organic solvents due to its amphiphilic properties. With additives such as D-sorbitol and water, the reverse spherical micelles are transformed into reverse cylindrical micelles by the morphology change of lecithin molecules. In this study, the rheological properties of lecithin/D-sorbitol/water mixtures were investigated. In addition, the small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) technique was used to examine the shape and size of the formed nanostructures related to their rheological properties. Such mixtures are expected to be used in drug delivery and oleogels because of their high viscosity and viscoelastic behavior.

  • This research focused on minimizing the response of fixed cylindrical offshore structures to a ship impact considering the seawater fluid part. A collision between a ship and offshore structure is generally a complex problem and it is often impractical to perform rigorous finite element analyses to include all the effects and sequences during the collision. The structural behavior of a fixed cylindrical type offshore substructure with a seawater fluid part has a simpler response and small deformation due to the dissipation of impact energy. Upon applying the impact force of a ship to the cylindrical structure, the maximum acceleration, internal energy, and plastic strain are calculated for each load cases using Ls-dyna finite element software. In the maximum cases 2.0 m/s velocity, the response result for the structure was carried out to compare between having a fluid region and no fluid region. Fluid-structure interaction analysis was performed using the ALE method, which make it possible to apply a fluid region on the impact problem. The case of a fixed cylindrical type offshore structure without a seawater fluid part can be a more conservative design.

  • There are many methods to reinforce the cylindrical structure for light weight design like skin-stringer and semi-monocoque. Isogrid is one of the reinforced structures to improve buckling load. Isogrid has many advantages for complex load case, internal pressure and concentrated load.In this paper, compressive buckling test and non-linear FE analysis of the isogrid panel are described. Diameter of panel is 2.4m and thickness of plate is 11.43mm. The angle which the panel accomplish is about 70 degrees and, its height is about 660mm. Local buckling, global buckling and variation of stiffness after local buckling were observed during buckling test of the panel. MSC/MARC is used for non-linear FE analysis. When analysis, initial imperfection of panel which occurred during plastic forming is considered. The results of analysis for buckling mode and buckling load have good agreements with test.

  • When a body enters waters, its original kinetic energy or momentum is distributed among the body and surrounding water in the form of added mass. Due to the transfer of the energy or momentum, the bode is subjected to the hydrodynamic impact forces and acceleration. This impact behavior can be an important criterion of submersible vehicle launched to the air. In this paper, based on Life-boat model, an approximate method is proposed for the evaluation of the forces and responses of cylindrical rigid bode by water entry impact. The impact forces are calculated by yon Karman's momentum theory and motion responses the body, especially acceleration, are calculated by a numerical integration of the motion equations derived by hydrodynamic force equilibrium. The proposed method is expected to be a simple but efficient tool lot the preliminary design or motion analysis of a body subjected to water entry impact.

  • This study estimates the performance of steel spirals according to the compressive strength of the concrete. A total of 24 confined concrete cylinders ($150{\times}300mm$) were cast and tested under monotonic concentric compression. The main test parameters were the yield strength of spiral reinforcements and the compressive strength of the concrete. To effectively evaluate the confinement effect according to the yield strength of steel spirals, the external diameter of steel spirals was designed to be same as the diameter of specimen. The experimental results indicated that the performance of confinement of steel spirals increased as the yield strength of spiral reinforcement increased and the compressive strength of the concrete decreased. Furthermore, existing analytical models were used for predicting the stress versus axial strain relationships of specimens tested in this study. It can be concluded that the accuracy of the analytical models deteriorated as the yield strength of steel spirals and the compressive strength of the concrete increased.

  • Shape memory alloys (SMA) are often used in smart structures as active components. Their ability to provide large recovery forces and displacements has been useful in many applications, including devices for artificial muscles, active structural acoustic control, and shape control. Based on the 3-dimensional SMA constitutive equation in this paper, the radial displacement control of externally pressurized circular and semicircular composite cylinders under external pressure with a thin SMA layer bonded on its inner surface or inserted between composite layers in investigated using 3-dimensional finite element analysis. Upon actuation through resistive heating, SMAs start to transform from martensitic into austenitic state, simultaneously recover the prestrain, and thus cause the composite cylinders to go back to their original shapes of the cylinder cross-sections.

  • This study presents an example of conceptual design for hollow circular section multi-column tower system subjected to 10MW level wind load by introducing a method based on member utilization that examine both structural stability and economical efficiency. The basic assumptions for the proto type of a multi-column tower that can replace a single-cylinder tower were suggested and structural models were constructed following the assumptions and analyzed for identifying member forces. Based on the calculated member strengths and acting loads, the member utilization of the proposed multi-column tower structures were calculated for axial force, shear, bending and torsion and evaluaed for suitability as a wind tower. Design parameters such as steel tube dimensions, slenderness ratio, and number of floors for braces was proposed in the acceptable range of member utilization for conceptual design of multi-column wind towers.

  • Dome stretching tests and tension tests were performed to evaluate the formability of a copper alloy used for manufacturing the regenerative cooling chamber. The test specimens were prepared to investigate the effect of heat treatment and direction of specimens on the formability. The test results show that forming limit values are increased by the heat treatment of the material but the variation of the forming limit values by manufacturing direction is negligible compared to the heat treatment effect, and forming limit values are also different according to the test methods. These results indicate that the high temperature heat treatment of the material before bulging is a very important process to deform the inner cylindrical structure of the regenerative cooling chamber into a nozzle shape by the bulging process without necking or fracture and the test methods also have a great effect on a evaluation of the formability. The forming limit diagram obtained in this study would be utilized to the design of regenerative cooling chamber nozzles.
