This study investigates thermal and mechanical characterization of environmental barrier coating on the $SiC_f-SiC$ composites. The spherical environmental barrier coating (EBC) powders are prepared using a spray drying process for flowing easily during coating process. The powders consisting of mullite and 12 wt% of Ytterbium silicate are air plasma sprayed on the Si bondcoat on the LSI SiC fiber reinforced SiC composite substrate for protecting the composites from oxidation and water vapor reaction. We vary the process parameter of spray distance during air plasma spray of powders, 100, 120 and 140 mm. After that, we performed the thermal durability tests by thermal annealing test at $1100^{\circ}C$ for 100hr and thermal shock test from $1200^{\circ}C$ for 3000 cycles. As a result, the interface delamination of EBC never occur during thermal durability tests while stable cracks are prominent on the coating layer. The crack density and crack length depend on the spray distance during coating. The post indentation test indicates thermal tests influence on the indentation load-displacement mechanical behavior.

Double-layered polysulfone composite films, containing cerium activated yttrium silicate (CAYS) as a flour, were prepared from double casting of two polymeric solutions, and their morphology and physical strength were superior to those of single-layered composites. The prepared polymeric films consist of a dense bottom layer and a CAYS-holding top layer. The former is made of coagulating the polysulfone and methylene chloride binary solution and works as a supporter to improve the composite's physical strength, while the latter holding the inorganic fluor plays a role as an active site to detect the radioactive contamination. The prepared films revealed two distinguished, but tightly attached, double layers, their attachment being identified by morphology of the interface between two layers. As prepared by water immersion coagulation, the films have highly developed macropores, compared with a dense structure in the film prepared by evaporation. In the radionuclide detection test of the CAYS-impregnated composites, the films have reliable detection capacity at a radionuclide spotting test. The double-layered composites with the dense support layer show a better stability in holding the radionuclides spotted on the surface as well as an improvement in physical strength, compared with the single-layer composites having shortcomings such as being too porous or being brittle.

Portland cement production is under critical review due to high amount of CO2 gas released to the atmosphere. Attempts to increase the utilization of a by-products such as fly ash and ground granulated blast-furnace slag to partially replace the cement in concrete are gathering momentum. But most of by-products is currently dumped in landfills, thus creating a threat to the environment. Many researches on alkali-activated concrete that does not need the presence of cement as a binder have been carried out recently. However, most study deal only with alkali-activated ground granulated blast furnace slag or fly ash, as for the combined use of the both, little information is reported. In this study, we investigated the influence of mixture ratio of fly ash/ blast furnace slag tand curing condition on the flowability and compressive strength of mortar in oder to develop cementless alkali-activated concrete. In view of the results, we found out that the mixture ratio of fly ash/blast furnace slag always results to be significant factors. But the influence of curing temperature in the strength development of mortar is lower than the contribution due to other factors. At the age of 28days, the mixture 50% fly ash and 50% ground granulated blast furnace slag activated with 1:1 the mass ratio of 9M NaOH and sodium silicate, develop compressive strength of about 65 MPa under $20^{\circ}C$ curing.
Montmorillonite (MMT) modified with siloxane diamine was reacted with a reactant obtained from 4,4'-diphenyl methane diisocyanate (MDI) and polyester type polyol, $Nippollan4010(\bar{M}_n2000)$. Finally, polyurethane (PU)/MMT composites were prepared by using 1,4-butane diol as a chain extender in $25\;wt\%$ solution of N,N-dimethyl acetamide (DMAc). It was expected that these nanocomposites had superior exfoliation property to that of MMT dispersed polyurethanes produced by simple mixing due to insertion of siloxane main chain to the silicate interlayer of MMT. Extent of reaction and formation of final products were analysed by using FT-IR spectroscopy. Dispersion into the PU and intercalation of MMT were identified by applying X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Tensile data were acquired by universal test machine (UTM). Thermal stability and variation of surface energy were characterized by thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) method and measurement of contact angle on the synthesized composites, respectively. As the results the organo-MMT modified with siloxane diamine in the PU composites has an intercalated structure relatively well-expanded rather than a completely exfoliated structure. The tensile strengths and the moduli for the PU/organo-MMT composites were drastically enhanced in comparison to those of $PU/Na^+-MMT$ composites.

Although the construction joints of a concrete structure are properly treated with some measures, leakage has frequently occurred. A series of tests on the bond characteristics between new and old concrete were carried out in this study, assuming that the leakage at the construction joints has certain relationship with the bond of concrete. To assess the bond characteristics under various conditions, a number of specimens were made that have an interface between new and old concrete and bond strength, flexural strength and splitting tensile strength were measured. Main test variables are type and amount of mineral admixtures, treatment method of the interface and type of waterstops. In addition, the effects of placing interval between the concrete and of the age of the strength tests were investigated. The test results showed a slightly increased bond strength when applying mineral admixtures, which can be attributed to the interface filled with the calcium silicate hydrate that is formed by pozzolanic reaction. On the other hand, the bond strength was higher when the interface was treated rough and dry, and the roughness of a waterstop affected the bond capacity of the waterstop. Also, an assessment is required that considers the type of strength test because the bond strength varied according to the test methods.
Solid hydrated by hydro-thermal synthesis reaction is cured two times, the first curing is the steam curing at atmospheric pressure and the second one is a high-pressure steam curing, that is autoclaving. Steam curing is to acquire the proper strength for the resistance of treatment in the first curing process, it was not evaluated properly so far. Because of ignorance about curing, some engineers even think that the dry curing is better than the steam curing. The relation between compressive strength of solid hydrated by hydrothermal synthesis reaction and curing condition are presented in this paper. In order to investigate the effect of curing on the strength properties of specimen, the hydration behavior of solid hydrated by hydro-thermal synthesis reaction has been studied over curing condition using XRD, DT-TGA and porosimeter, SEM analysis technique. The results show that the specimens which are cured with blended method of dry and steam curing appear to have better strength properties than that of dry curing and steam curing. Also, there are significant difference of hydration behavior among curing condition in the solid hydrated by hydro-thermal synthesis reaction.
$Li_2MnSiO_4$/C was synthesized by solid state reaction and solution synthesis with sucrose for carbon source. The X-ray diffraction patterns of solid state reaction indicates small amount of impurities. By FE-SEM and HR-TEM, solution synthesis comprised several tens of nanometer comparing to 500~600 nm of $Li_2MnSiO_4$/C prepared by solid state reaction. The $Li_2MnSiO_4$/C prepared by solution synthesis show better electrochemical performance than solid state reaction. The first charge-discharge capacity are 236, 189 mAh/g respectively by solution synthesis. But its cycle performance was poor as yet and its capacity retention was 62% after 10 cycles.
Thermodynamic analysis on carbon dioxide reforming of methane was performed using a computer program which can handle condensed species in the products, and the reforming experiments were conducted over $Al_2O_3$, $La_2O_3$, ZSM-5, MCM-41, KIT-1 supported nickel catalysts, and a commercial ICI 46-1. It was estabished that a system which consists of $CH_4$, $CO_2$, CO, $H_2$, $H_2O$, and C is appropriate for theoretical equilibrium calculations and addition of water vapor or oxygen was found to diminish the contribution of carbon dioxide in reforming. Silicate molecular sieve-supported catalysts such as Ni/ZSM-5, Ni/MCM-41, Ni/KIT-1 were effective for high $CH_4$ and $CO_2$ conversions as well as for high CO yield. Coke formation was suppressed when CaO was added as a promoter. Ni/Ca/KIT-1 which contains 10% Ni with 3% Ca showed conversion approaching equilibrium levels above $650^{\circ}C$ and maintained constant activity over 20 h. Despite increased space velocity, relatively high conversion and CO yield were observed.
The standing Buddha named Taehwa 4 yew in the Jincheon were sculptured with rock cliff of the dark grey shale. Front of the Buddha statue shows $N40^{\circ}W$ strike with nearly vertical dip toward the back side. Rock blocks of the Buddha statue well developed with bedding and laminations whereas rock surface distributed into the various irregular discontinuities. Sculptured lines of the Buddha were uncertain because of degradation and exfoliations on the rock surface. The surface near the Buddha statue is highly contaminated with lichen and mosses, and accelerate physical and biological weathering owing to the roots of weed and bush along the fracture systems. For the conservational treatment, we treated with primary wet cleaning by air gun and secondary cleaning treatment using distilled water. Separated rock surface and fractured parts fasten and/or fill up the boundaries of the rock blocks using epoxy resin for conservation of rock properties. Some brittle surface was treatment with water repellent consolidant of ethyl silicates, and heterogeneous surface carried out color matching by acrylic pigments. Upper part of the Buddha statue dig out small ditch for rain water drainage, and near surface of the Buddha statue treat removal works for lichen, weeds and bush. The duration capacity of the Buddha constituting rocks are degraded by various weathering factors, therefore we suggest that this Buddha statue have need to do long term monitoring and synthetic conservation researches.
