This paper investigated the possibility of appling to concrete through fundamental experiment for garnet, which was industrial wastes generated in kyung pook region, in aspects of development of new materials and recycling of industrial wastes due to shortage of natural resources. Consequently, garnet powder showed the possibility of admixture as showed in the chemical composition because the content of silica and alumina in relation to pozzolanic activity was about 50%. The time of setting was more or less diminished as the increasing of replacement ratio of garnet. In flow test, flow values tended to increase to some degree as the increasing of replacement ratio of garnet. Therefore, application of garnet was expected to improve the workability of concrete. The compressive strength of mortar replaced by garnet was respectively increased as compared with plain mortar and the maximum strength was showed in replaced by 10%, however a little different to the change of W/B ratio. Also, the possibility of admixture to reduce the amount of cement and to improve the property of concrete was showed as the strength of mortar replaced by garnet was comparable to that by existing admixture(silica fume, fly-ash).
In the present work, modulus of rupture (MOR), flexural toughness properties $(I_{30}\;and\;W_{2.0})$ and workability (slump) of high performance hybrid fiber reinforced concrete (HPHFRC) mixed with micro-fiber (carbon fiber) and macro-fiber (steel fiber), and replaced with a fine mineral admixture such as silica fume (SF) are characterized through the analysis of variance (ANOVA). Data of MOR, $I_{30}(or W_{2.0})$ and slump are used as the characteristic values to estimate flexural performance and workable property of HPHFRC. Specially, an experimental design was Planned according to the fractional orthogoanl nay method to reduce experimental number of times. The experimental results show that steel fiber is a considerable significant factor in MOR and I30 $(W_{2.0})$. Based on the significance of experimental factors about each characteristic factors, the following evaluation can be used: Experiment factors which reduce slump most remarkably are carbon fiber, steel fiber, silica fume order.; Those that improve MOR most significantly are silica fume $({\fallingdotseq}\;carbon\;fiber)$, steel fiber order; Those that increase flexural toughness most distinctly are silica fume, carbon fiber, steel fiber order. It is obtained that the combination of steel fiber $1.0\%$, carbon fiber $0.25\%$ and silica fume $5.0\%$ is the experimental condition that improve MOR and flexural toughness excellently with workability ensured within the experiment.

Recently, several failure cases of concrete structures during construction have been reported. The main reason for these failures is attributed to the poor quality of concrete during construction. It is, therefore. necessary to develop and use high quality concrete. The purpose of the present study is to explore the characteristics of superplasticized concrete, especially the effects of mineral admixtures on the fluidity and strength characteristics of high performance concrete. The mineral admixtures considered in the present study are fly ash, blast furnace slag and silica fume, respectively. The major test variables include the amount of these mineral admixtures, cement contents and water-cement ratios. The compressive strengths for various cases were measured and reported. Optimum contents of mineral admixtures for strength development were derived. The corrosion phenomena of reinforcements embedded in various concrete specimens have been also studied. The present study provides useful basis to apply high-performance concrete to actual structures.

In Korea, press concrete in basements is mainly applied using plain concrete. This system has undesirable defects such as cracks caused by plastic shrinkage and irregular temperature distribution. To solve this problem, metal lath and fibers have been used in the past. However, they have not been effective in controlling cracks. This study analyzed the reduction of plastic shrinkage cracking for press concrete using various admixtures in a basement has been. In the air contents test, the specimens with various admixtures showed air contents similar to plain concrete (4.5±1.5%). The specimens using silica fume, super plasticizer agent, and SBR showed higher compressive strength by about 10-15% than plain concrete. Cracking decreased when the MC, super plasticizer, and SBR were added. When MC was used in the concrete, the plastic shrinkage did not occur.

Concrete and steel are essential structural materials in the construction. But, concrete, different from steel, consists of many materials and is affected by many factors such as properties of materials, site environmental situations, and skill of constructors. Concrete have two kinds of properties, immediately knowing properties such as slump, air contents and time dependent one like strength. Therefore, concrete mixes depend on experiences of experts. However, at point of time using High Performance Concrete, new method is wanted because of more ingredients like mineral and chemical admixtures and lack of data. Artificial Neural Networks(ANN) are a mimic models of human brain to solve a complex nonlinear problem. They are powerful pattern recognizers and classifiers, also their computing abilities have been proven in the fields of prediction, estimation and pattern recognition. Here, among them, the back propagation network and radial basis function network ate used. Compositions of high-performance concrete mixes are eight components(water, cement, fine aggregate, coarse aggregate, fly ash, silica fume, superplasticizer and air-entrainer). Compressive strength, slump, and air contents are measured. The results show that neural networks are proper tools to minimize the uncertainties of the design of concrete mixtures.
The slurry infiltrated fiber concrete(SIFCON) is recognized as one of the most promising new construction materials. Compressive and direct tensile tests are performed to investigate the mechanical property of SIFCON. Hooked-end steel fibers are used in the mix with fiber volume fraction varied from 4% to 10%. The water/cement ratio is kept constant at 0.4. The amount of silica fume added is 10% by weight of cement and 0.5% of water reducing agent is added to improve the workability of the slurry. The test results in this study show that the compressive strength of SIFCON is about 1.59 to 2.68 times in comparison with the cement paste. Tensile strength is showed the enhancement of about 2.51 to 8.77 times. It is also observed that the toughness and ductility of SIFCON are increased significantly with the increasing in fiber volume fraction.

In the years, the concern about high-strength concrete which is new material has been heightened as a result of active research and development. Recently, as the building structure has been being bigger, higher, longer and more specialized, the demand of material with high-strength concrete for building has been increasing. The demand of high -strength concrete is expected to increase with expansion of usage about the complex concrete structures such as bridge structure as well as nuclear plants, underground structures, hydraulic structures and arctic area sturctures. In this research, silica-fume was used as an admixture in order to get a high-strength concrete. Water/binder ration was limited no more than 18 percent and the amount of unit cement was increased. In this study, a number of trial in concrete mix was carried out to get optimal mix design, and the target slump with $10{\pm}2cm$ was set for in-situ construction. High-strength concrete with cylinder strength of 1,200kgf/$cm^2$ in the 28-days was produced and tested. The static test was carried out to measure the ultimate load, the initial load of flexural and diagonal cracking, crack patterns, fracture modes. The load versus strain and load versus deflection relations were obtained form the static test. The test results were compared with the shear strengths predicted by the equations of ACI code 318-89 and orther researchers. Based on the test results, shear strength equation of reinforced concrete beam using high strength concrete was proposed. Form an evaluation of the results of this experimental investigation, it was concluded that shear strength after diagonal tention cracking diminished with the increase in compressive strength for beams.

There are many methods to improve the performance of concrete. Especially, admixture materials used in concrete as the replacement materials of cement, could fluidity, strength and durability of concrete. So recently, the terminology "High-Performance Concrete(HPC)" has been introduced into the construction industry. Most hige-performance concrete have a high cementitious content and a low water-cementitious material ratio. The proportions of the individual constituent vary depending on lacal preferences and local materials. Therefore, many trial batches are usually necessary before a successful mix is developed. The objective of this experiments is to investigate the fundamental properties of high performance concrete based binary cimentitious materials such as ordinary portland cement and ground granulated blast furnace slag. In this study, Use granulated blast furnace slag (30%, 45%, 60%) and water cementitious content (26%, 30%, 34%) take the gauge of capacity that strength, carbonation and XRD, X-Ray Diffraction test
This paper investigated how Fine Fly Ash (FFA) with $14,000\;cm^2/g$ of Fineness affects the micro structure and material properties of High-Performance Concrete (HPC) before and after hardening from Material Test of HPC and Cement Paste. FFA is applied as a substitute of Silica Fume which is used necessarily in producing HPC. As a Material Test results, 5% FFA series specimen shows the lower fluidity than SF series specimen. When, however, the Fluidity of 10% FFA series specimen is increased reversely to the similar value of SF series specimen. The Porosity of FFA series specimen of 3 day age is displayed to $21{\sim}24%$, which is higher than $19{\sim}20%$ porosity of SF series specimen, while that of 28 day age is reached to $8{\sim}9%$, which is improved compared with 10% fo SF series specimen. It can be thought that FFA has better influence on the porosity of HPC in case of long term age. The Compressive strength of FFA series specimen shows the similar result with the property of porosity. The compressive strength of 28 day age FFA series specimen is $98{\sim}106%$ of SF series specimen and 107% of plain specimen to reveal better strength development.
Recently, large scale concrete structures exposed to severe environment are increasingly built in various locations. The corrosion may severely affect the durability and service life of such a concrete structure. It is, therefore, necessary to develop durable concrete to enhance the corrosion resistance. The corrosion resistance of concrete can be identified through accelerated corrosion test. The purpose of the present paper is, therefore, to devise a reasonable and accurate method to predict the amount of corrosion of reinforcing steels. The proposed method which is basically based on the concept of Faraday's Law, determines the corroded amount of a rebar according to accelerated corrosion time. The corrosion is accelerated by employing the potentiometric corrosion test arrangement. The effects of admixtures in concrete including fly ash and silica fume have been also studied to explore the relative corrosion resistance of concrete.
