  • Because of rapid damping of light and electromagnetic wave, acoustic wave has been widely used for underwater communication. However, the propagation of the acoustic wave is highly dependent on the environment such as water properties(temperature, pressure, salinity), bottom and surface conditions, etc.. This paper deals with the surface reflection effect on the wave propagation in the underwater anechoic basin in KRISO. Both theortical and experimental approaches are performed and the results are compared.

  • 현재 사용되고 있는 CDMA 시스템에서는 기지국 내에 사용되는 고출력 증폭기(high power. amplifier)의 비선형 특성으로 인해, 시스템의 송신 신호는 심각한 비선형 왜곡을 겪게되고 이는 결국 시스템의 성능을 크게 악화시키는 요인으로 작용한다. 이러한 고출력 증폭기의 비선형성은 출력 신호 레벨을 선형 영역으로 충분히 backing-off 시킴으로써 감소시킬 수 있으나, 이는 송신 신호의 출력을 과도하게 감소시키게 되어 결국 fade margin을 감소시키는 결과를 가져온다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 고출력 증폭기에서 발생하는 비선형 왜곡을 보상할 수 있는 디지털 사전왜곡기를 하드웨어적으로 직접 구현하여 고출력 증폭기의 특성이 변할 때,LMS 알고리듬을 이용하여 LUT의 값을 갱신함으로써 보다 효과적인 적응 사전왜곡기를 설계하는데 목적이 있다.

A Design of Predistortion Linearizer Using Second Harmonic Signals (2차 고조파 신호를 이용한 전치 왜곡 선형화기 설계)

  • In this paper, a new predistortion linearizer using second harmonic components feedforwarding is proposed. The harmonic generator of the proposed predistorter that consists of a small signal amplifier extracts second harmonic signals. A vector modulator that modulate fundamental signal with second harmonic signals, generates the inverse third order intermodulation distortion signals and controls amplitude/phase of them with modulation factors. As a result, this linearizer is suppressed IMD3 signals of power amplifier effectively. The test results show that the third order IMD of power amplifier is suppressed more than 20 dB for CW two-tone signals. Also, it's improved the adjacent channel power ratio(ACPR) more than 5 dB for CDMA(IS-95) 4FA signals.

  • 전력 증폭기의 3차나 5차 비선형성은 인접 통신 채널에 직접적인 영향을 미치므로 선형화 기법을 이용하여 출력단의 혼변조 신호를 감쇄시켜야 한다. 본 논문에서는 전력 증폭기의 입력 신호를 기저대역에서 왜곡시켜 전력 증폭기를 선형화 시키는 디지털 사전 왜곡기를 구현하였다. 측정에 앞서, 모의실험을 통하여 시스템 변수에 따른 선형화기의 성능을 예측하고, 1차원 참조표(look-up table)를 사용한 사전 왜곡기의 측정 결과, 약 9 dB의 ACPR 개선 효과를 얻을 수 있었다.

Design of a Bias Circuit for Reducing Memory Effects (Memory Effect를 줄이기 위한 바이어스 회로의 설계)

  • Intermodulation distortion degrades the S/N(signal-to-noise) of the original signal and also affects the adjacent channels. Intermodulation distortion is mainly caused by the nonlinear characteristics of the power amplifier. If the power amplifier with nonlinear characteristics has a memory effect, the intermodulation distortions occurred in the power amplifier are generated in various and complex forms. The predistorter is used as a way to improve intermodulation distortions. In order to efficiently utilize the performance of the predistorter, the memory effect of the power amplifier must be reduced. In this paper, we describe the design method of bias circuit to reduce the memory effect in power amplifiers. To reduce the memory effect, the bias circuit must have a high impedance for the signal and a low impedance for the envelope(modulating signal) and the second harmonic component of the signal. To verify the performance of the bias circuit designed considering the memory effect, a power amplifier operating at 170 ~ 220MHz was designed and implemented. The designed bias circuit has a large impedance in the operating frequency band and low impedance in the envelope signal and the second harmonic of the signal. As a result of the performance measurement, it was found that the asymmetric intermodulation distortion component is improved by 3.7dB.

Compensation Method for Improvement of Speech Recognition in Wireless Communication Network (무선 통신망에서 음성인식률 개선을 위한 보상기법 연구)

  • 이동통신 기술의 발전으로 이동통신 사용이 폭발적으로 증가하였고 그에 따라 이동통신망을 이용한 많은 서비스가 제공되고 있다. 이동통신망에서의 음성 인식 서비스에서 음성 인식기에 입력되는 음성신호는 통신망을 통해 음성 압축기를 거치게 되고 이에 음성신호가 왜곡되어 인식기의 인식성능이 저하된다. 본 논문에서는 무선통신 환경에서 음성인식기의 성능을 개선하기 위한 보상 방법을 제안한다. 기존의 제안된 방법은 음성 데이터에 의존하는 방법을 사용하나 본 논문에서는 음성 데이터와는 독립적 방법인 음성 압축기에 의해 손상된 입력 신호의 스펙트럼 보상방법과 Cepstrum 보정방법을 통해 인식률을 향상시키는 방법을 제안한다. 즉, 음성 압축기에 의하여 왜곡된 스펙트럼을 단계적 방법으로 보상하고 그를 토대로 왜곡된 신호에서 만들어진 Cepstrum을 보정하여 음성 인식기의 성능을 향상시키는 방법을 연구하였으며, 그 견과 손상된 음성신호의 인식률 $64.88\%$에 대하여, 본 논문에서 제안하는 보상 방법을 적용한 음성신호의 인식률은 $79.73\%$로서 $14.85\%$가 향상된 결과를 얻을 수 있었다.

  • In this paper, we propose a new compensation scheme for combined channel distortions and RF impairments based on the analysis of the impacts of IQ(In-phase/Quadrature) imbalance and phase noise on the OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) system in the direct conversion transceiver and frequency selective fading channel distortion. The proposed scheme estimates the combined distortion by the use of training symbols and the residual distortion by pilot symbols and compensates the combined distortion, including IQ imbalance, phase noise and multipath fading at the same time. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme compensates the combined distortion of IQ imbalance, phase noise and multipath fading simultaneously.

Digital Predistortion Algorithm using Techniques of Temperature Compensation (온도보상 기법을 적용한 디지털 방식의 사전 왜곡제거기 알고리듬)

  • In this paper, we proposed predistortion algerian that can compensate temperature distortion by digital. Predistortion algorithm produces compensation value of distortion by temperature as well as system nonlinear distortion by input level, and warps beforehand signal of baseband. To prove excellency of such algorithm we applied predistortion algorithm to Saleh's high power amplifier model, and did computer simulation. As a result, P1dB increased about 0.5 dBm phase shift reduced about $0.8^{o}$ than existent the A&P PD, and predistiortion algorithm to apply temperature compensation techniques improved P1dB about 2dBm and stabilized phase shift by about $0.1^{o}$ low. When approved UMTS's sample signal to this amplifier, IMD3 of amplifier decreased 10dBm than is no temperature compensation techniques, and reduced 19dBm than signal that is no distortion.

The Design of Predistortion Linearizer using the Low Frequency Intermodulation Terms of Harmonic Generator (Harmonic Generator의 저주파 혼변조 신호 성분을 이용한 전치왜곡 선형화기 설계)

  • In this paper, a new type predistorter using a low frequency intermodulation signals terms of harmonic generator is proposed. A vector modulator, in which fundamental signal is modulated with low frequency intermodulation signals derived from harmonic generator, generates predistorted third and fifth IM components. Using predistorted signals, intermodulation distortion signals of power amplifier suppressed. The suggested predistorter has been manufactured to operate in Korean PCS base-station transmitting band (1840~1870MHz). The test results show that the third IMD signal level is reduced more than 20dB and the fifth IMD signal is reduced about 10dB for CW two-tone signals. The predistorter improves the Adjacent Channel Power Ratio (ACPR) more than 10dB for CDMA (IS-95) signals.

  • A new adaptation algorithm for the digital predistorter is presented. The proposed technique employs the real-time transmitted signals through HPA for the table update. Hence the proposed algorithm does not depend on modulation format and the signal transmission of HPA is not affected during the adaptation process. The experimental results are presented to verify the proposed method and we obtained about 8.4 dB of ACPR improvement.
