Physical Activity Participation and Body Composition in Colorectal and Gastric Cancer Survivor (위암과 대장암 경험자의 신체구성 및 신체활동 참여 실태)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the amount of physical activity and body composition and to investigate physical activity according to cancer type, sex, and age among colorectal and gastric cancer survivors. A total of 354 participants who were colorectal (n=185) and gastric (n=169) cancer survivors had completed all treatment less than 4 years ago at Y university hospital between June 2014 and April 2015. The Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQ) was used to measure time and intensity of physical activity according to the different types of activity. The colorectal cancer survivors were significantly higher in body mass index, waist circumference, percent body fat, blood pressure, and the prevalence of diabetes compared to gastric cancer survivors. In addition, the results showed that only 26.5% of colorectal cancer survivors met American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) guidelines (at least of 150 min of moderate intensity of higher physical activity per week) for physical activity, compared with 41.4% of gastric cancer survivors. Additionally, only 13.6% of colorectal and gastric cancer survivors met strength exercise guidelines. The male cancer survivors were significantly higher in moderate physical activity, participation in resistance exercise, and sedentary behaviors compared to female cancer survivors. In additions, less than 65 years cancer survivors were higher in strenuous intensity exercise and moderate physical activity compared to more than 65 years cancer survivors. The alternative for promoting physical activity participation rates of colorectal and gastric cancer survivors should be presented.

  • With Cartesian dichotomy, a person's behavior and illness distinguished sharply between "biologically based" phenomena and "psychologically based" phenomena in western country. But a more balanced view that considers both concepts swept into psychiatry in the 1960s and 1970s. And ironically, the revolution of neurosicience and genetics have now reached a level of sophistication that allow it to serve as a bridge between biology and psychosocial environment. So, even subtle changes in the environment can produce biological changes in the brain. We review the history of definitions and relationship of mind and body. And we provide a selective survey of the recent 3 conceptual models of mind-body relationships in general-biopsychosocial model, mental-physical identity theory, organic unity theory-, the relationships of genetic and environment, and stress-diathesis model.

  • Recently, adolescent's lack of exercise due to increasing physical inactivity is emerging as a social problem. Accordingly, we planned a smartphone game to increase the physical activity of adolescents. The application is able to induce the interest of the youth through the interesting factor of 'game'. Also it provides the user with information about the physical activity by measuring the amount of physical activity of the user through GPS. We propose a way to continuously motivate adolescent's physical activity through this motion interaction game application.

The Relationship of Physical Activity Types with Depression, Stress and Happiness in the Elderly (노년기 신체 활동 특성과 우울, 스트레스 및 행복의 관계)

  • This study investigated the relationship of physical activity types with depression, stress and happiness in the elderly. The data were from the seventh Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, 2019, 2,381 cases. The results showed the levels of Activity of Daily Living were relatively high, but the levels of moderate recreational activity and aerobic physical activity prevalence were low. The levels of depression, stress and happiness were satisfactory. There were some differences in depression, stress and happiness by the levels of activity of daily living, moderate recreational activity and aerobic physical activity prevalence. The implications to enhance physical activities and mental health for the elderly were discussed.

The Relationship among Estimated Intensity of Physical Activity, Stress Response and Positive Psychological Capital (추정된 신체활동 강도와 스트레스 반응 그리고 긍정심리자본의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among estimated intensity of physical activity, stress response and positive psychological capital. The participants totalled 356 male and female aged 20's~ 50's. Data was collected from 3 Questionnaires and analyzed by descriptive statistics, confirmatory factor analysis, correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis with SPSS and AMOS program. The following conclusions were drawn; First, physical activity had effected on stress response and positive psychological capital. Second, high level physical activity had effected on stress response and positive psychological capital.

Effects of emotional labor, job stress and burnout on somatization in nurses : In convergence era (융복합 시대의 간호사의 감정노동, 직무스트레스 및 소진이 신체화 증상에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was done to identify the influence of emotional labor, job stress and burnout on somatization of nurses live in convergence era. The participants were 387 nurses in D hospital. The average mean score for emotional labor was 3.25, occupational stress was 3.60, burnout was 3.10, and somatization was 2.18. For relations with general characteristics, there was a statistically significant difference in somatization according to age, marital status, educational level, work unit, total clinical career, present department career, position, monthly salary, shift and job satisfaction. Somatization was found to be in a significant positive correlation with emotional labor, occupational stress and burnout. As a result, factor influencing somatization was burnout. This predictor accounted for 29.6% of variance in somatization. The findings of this study showed that burnout was major influencing factor on somatization of nurses. Therefore, it is necessary to develop strategies that can reduce somatization by controlling burnout.

  • The aim of this study is to suggest the fitness Avatar model for increasing physical activities in individuals with SCI(spinal cord injury). With the increasing of the disable, the ratio of individuals with SCI is also increasing. Avatar is a movable image that represents a person in a virtual reality environment or in cyberspace. With the expansion of new technology, such as video games and virtual reality, there has been an increase in the interest of using virtual reality in therapy. It is not easy for individuals with SCI to access tho sports facilities due to paraplegia. The increasing physical activities based on virtual reality will be the most innovative and future-oriented approach. First, building a system and establishing a comprehensive support system is essential to activate and spread variety of physical activities for individuals with SCI. Second, providing a appropriate feedback and identifying the effect of intervention will be considered.

Culture and Somatization (문화와 신체화)

  • In this review article, the meanings of the somatization phenomena were reviewed and discussed in terms of cultural psychiatric view point. The somatization is an universal psychopathology. But frequency, pattern of symptoms and it's cultural factors in the conversion of emotional distress to the somatization are much different from culture to culture. Conventional impression and monotonous interpretation that somatization is prevalent in the non-Western or traditional society and it is due to poor differentiation of the psyche is seriously criticized. Cultural metaphors of expressing emotional pain, traditional disease concepts, conventional way of adopting a given culture and society, and medical delivery system and milieu could be regarded as important cultural factors of the somatization. Cultural meanings of somatization in Korea were summarized and discussed. Finally, clinical guide line for transcultural practice were summarized.

Human Body Motion Tracking Using ICP and Particle Filter (반복 최근접점와 파티클 필터를 이용한 인간 신체 움직임 추적)

  • This paper proposes a real-time algorithm for tracking the fast moving human body. Although Iterative closest point (ICP) algorithm is suitable for real-time tracking due to its efficiency and low computational complexity, ICP often fails to converge when the human body moves fast because the closest point may be mistakenly selected and trapped in a local minimum. To overcome such limitation, we combine a particle filter based on a motion history information with the ICP. The proposed human body motion tracking algorithm reduces the search space for each limb by employing a hierarchical tree structure, and enables tracking of the fast moving human bodies by using the motion prediction based on the motion history. Experimental results show that the proposed human body motion tracking provides accurate tracking performance and fast convergence rate.

Estimating Algorithm of Physical Activity Energy Expenditure and Physical Activity Intensity using a Tri-axial Accelerometer (3축 가속도 센서를 이용한 신체활동 에너지 소비량과 신체활동 강도 예측 알고리즘)

  • Estimating algorithm of physical activity energy expenditure and physical activity intensity was implemented by using a tri-axial accelerometer motion detector of the SVM(Signal Vector Magnitude) of 3-axis(x, y, z). A total of 10 participants(5 males and 5 females aged between 20 and 30 years). The ActiGraph(LLC, USA) and Fitmeter(Fit.life, korea) was positioned anterior superior iliac spine on the body. The activity protocol consisted of three types on treadmill; participants performed three treadmill activity at three speeds(3, 5, 8 km/h). Each activity was performed for 7 minutes with 4 minutes rest between each activity for the steady state. These activities were repeated four weeks. Algorithm for METs, kcal and intensity of activities were implemented with ActiGraph and Fitmeter correlation between the data.
