  • This is a study using data from the 8th National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey to identify the factors that affect the handgrip strength and health status in the elderly. Bivariate logistic regression analysis was performed on 1,470 subjects. As a result of this study, the decrease in grip strength was significantly lower for males, 70-74 or 65-69 years of age, and those who thought their subjective health status was normal or good. The decrease in grip strength was significantly higher when the education level was less than elementary school or middle school, and when the sleeping time was more than 8 hours. Considering the variables affecting hand grip strength, it can be used as basic data when establishing health policies for the elderly or health promotion policies to improve grip strength as a primary prevention activity.

  • In this paper, we propose a system to users which recommends suitable park using linguistic objects by rule-based inference engine which is made with Prolog. According to the function of city park, which provides positive elements to people such as social, psychological, environmental, and physical, Seoul city park is classified into 6 categories. The classified parks are recommended to users based on the rule based expert system. Rule-based object of park recommendation designs nine linguistic objects based on activity, multi-purposiveness, accessibility, and usage of time. This assigns allowed value accordingly. Generated rules by using these values are fired by user's preference, and infer recommended park. Information on preferences is obtained by way of dialogue, in which the user is asked questions about the three elements that are the criteria for choosing a park. As a result, through the park recommendation system, we intend to increase the user's satisfaction of using park and leisure activities.

  • The U.S. military has been developing support policies for the soldiers dispatched overseas and their families since WWI. It is classified by the period nowadyas as follows. Prior to the dispatch, support for money and housing issues is mainly provided. During the dispatch, the DOD level community is formed to strengthen relations between the soldiers and their families, check their children's academic achievements, etc. After returning to the military, the mental and physical health care for not only the soldiers but also their families is provided. Based on these facts, this research proposes that the ROK MND's overseas dispatch instruction upgrade to law in order to provide housing support, even if the families don't live in military houses. Simultaneously, an online community is needed to be open for sharing information between them, their children's educational achievements, etc. More importantly, the mental health care for both the sodiers and their families is provided for a certain period.

  • As digital technology has advanced in the field of dentistry, the use of computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) has brought changes to the stages of dental treatment. The use of CAD/CAM technology in dental restoration offers clinical efficiency and convenience by reducing production time and appointment intervals, while also simplifying the fabrication process to reduce errors. In this case, digital replication and printing of temporary teeth were used to aid a patient with complex medical histories and physical disabilities. The final impression obtained with silicone impression material included information on the vertical dimension, centric relation, and the angle and length of the anterior teeth, which shortened the production time and appointment intervals and increased patient satisfaction. The final restoration was fabricated using milling and monolithic disc techniques, demonstrating appropriate stability, retention, and support, resulting in functional and aesthetic satisfaction.

  • This study aimed to investigate the relationship between overt and covert characteristics of stuttering. This study included 10 adult participants who stutter. To analyze the overt characteristics, stuttering frequency, duration of stuttering moments, concomitant behaviors, and total score were scored based on the Stuttering Severity Instrument-Fourth Edition (SSI-4). Additionally, the modified Erickson scale of communication attitudes (S-24) and the Overall Assessment of the Speaker's Experience of Stuttering for Adults (OASES-A; general information, reactions to stuttering, communication in daily situations, quality of life, and total score) were used to determine the covert characteristics. Correlation analyses showed no significant association between the overt and covert variables. However, there were significant correlations between the scores on the S-24 and the OASES-A. These findings support the perspective that the overt characteristics of stuttering do not predict the covert characteristics, and vice versa. Therefore, when evaluating and intervening with adults who stutter, it is important to consider these characteristics separately.

  • In this study, the facilities, educational program, and exhibition for students with disabilities in science museums were investigated. To do this, 19 science museums in Korea were surveyed by reviewing information and visiting investigation including interview. Facilities for access in consideration of the disabled were measured and found to averaged at 84.3 points well within the legal standard of 100 points. There were 11 moving science classes in which students with difficulties in accessing the museum can participate, but educational programs for the disabled were executed in 2 science museums. Exhibition in most science museum focused on basic science and dynamic operation, however there were little consideration for the disabled except for guides in braille and voice. In general, the facilities and educational program in science museum for students with disabilities were insufficient, but there are some possibilities to supplement by modifying the guide for the disabled or enlarging the educational program to include the disabled.

  • Objectives: This study used an efficient data mining algorithm to explore association rules between the lifestyle risk behaviors and multimorbidity (having more than one chronic disease) in Korean adults. Methods: We used data from the 8th Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(2019-2020) for 7,609 adults aged ≥19 years. This study was undertaken where 6 lifestyle risk behaviors and 11 morbidities were analyzed using R and Rstudio for the ARM. Results: Among 117 association rules, combinations of hypertension, dyslipidemia and diabetes, hypertension were important role in inadequate sleep, physical inactivity and inadequate weight. Conclusion: The findings of this study are significant because they demonstrate the importance of lifestyle risk factors and the role of multiple chronic diseases using big data analytics such as association rule mining. We recommend developing selective and focused health education programs, such as exercise programs to address physical inactivity, dietary interventions to address inadequate weight, and mental health education programs to address inadequate sleep.

  • This study utilized data from 1,068 women aged 40-59, drawn from the 8th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) conducted in 2020, to investigate factors impacting subjective health perception and health-related quality of life. Methodologically, STATA 15.0 was employed for complex sample mean and standard deviation calculations, complex sample weighted percentages, complex sample t-tests, and multiple regression analyses. Common factors influencing both subjective health and health-related quality of life included education level, household size, depression, and stress. Age, binge drinking, and physical activity were identified as factors influencing subjective health perception. Insurance type, employment status, and sleep disorders emerged as factors impacting health-related quality of life. Recognizing middle age as a crucial transitional phase into old age, the development of health policy programs aimed at enhancing subjective health and health-related quality of life during this period is deemed essential.
