Optimum Maintenance Strategy of Bridges Based on System Reliability (시스템 신뢰성에 기초한 교량의 최적 유지관리 계획)

  • Bridge construction is almost complete in many countries. Thus, the government and highway agencies change their focus from constructing to maintaining. Effectively maintaining bridges require predicting their lifespan using a system reliability viewpoint. Likewise, maintenance models based on the system reliability concept should be developed. Thus, this study developed maintenance models for preventive maintenance and essential maintenance using system reliability and lifetime distributions. The optimal maintenance strategy for an existing bridge was obtained using the developed maintenance models.

  • The assessment and prediction of service life of a structure are usually under uncertainty so that rational probabilistic concepts and methods have to be applied. Based on these rational assessment and prediction, optimum maintenance strategies to minimize the life-cycle cost and/or maximize the structural safety can be established. The service life assessment and prediction considering maintenance actions generally includes effects of maintenance types and times of the structural components on the service life extensions of structural system. Existing researches on the service life management have revealed the appropriate system modeling considering the correlation among the components is required for system reliability analysis and probabilistic service life estimation. However, the study on correlation among the maintenance actions is still required. This paper deals with such a study for more effective and efficient service life management. In this paper, both the preventive and essential maintenances are considered for the extended service life estimation and management.

  • Construction of highway bridges is almost complete in many countries. Thus, the government and highway agencies are shifting their remaining life span from the viewpoint of system reliability. As such, it is necessary to develop maintenance models based on system reliability concept. In this paper, preventive and essential maintenance models were developed using system reliability and lifetime distribution.

  • The present study proposed three inspection reliability indices which compared inspection results evaluated at in-depth(routine) inspection and in-depth safety inspection; Nominal inspection reliability index, Real inspection reliability index, and DS nominal inspection reliability index. The methods to improve the inspection reliability were also proposed. Since bridge inspection process is critical to ensuring the safety of bridges and identifying repair and maintenance needs, the quality of the inspection data produced from the inspection process is very important. Consequently, the inspection reliability indices were suggested to evaluate quality of current inspection practices. Specifically, approximately 85% of inspection errors evaluated by the DS nominal inspection reliability index are within 1 rating grade(equal to or less than damage score ${\pm}0.1$). In order to improve the inspection reliability, transportation agency should implement QC(Quality Control) practices and develop professional expertises of inspectors by higher requirements for inspectors, on-off line inspection training and etc.

  • Reliability should be done from the initial stage of development to secure performance and safety of system. To establish and achieve target reliability of a system, reliability should be allocated into the subsystems. In the acquisition and development of a system, frequent failures will cause a negative effect on performing mission and occurs increasing operating cost. This study reviewed and evaluated the existing reliability allocation models using operation and maintenance costs to find the correlation between reliability allocation models and its operating cost. A target system reliability on the diesel engine to be developed for naval vessels is allocated into its subsystem based on the existing reliability allocation models. A selection methodology for reliability allocation models was made to minimize operating cost by using simulation based on the given operating diesel engine data for naval vessels.

  • 본 연구에서는 신뢰성 기반 전력설비 유지보수에 관하여 설명하고 있다. 신뢰성 유지보수에 필요한 통계적 분석 및 기술적 수명 평가, 경제적 수명평가방법에 대하여 설명하였으며, 이를 기반으로 위험도를 산정하여 전력설비의 유지보수를 수행하는 절차에 대하여 고찰하였다. 연구결과로부터 신뢰성을 이용한 유지보수는 기술적 경제적 측면에서 체계적이고 효율적인 전력설비유지걸수를 가능하게 하는 것으로 나타났다.

Variable Size Sampling to Support Uniformity Confidence in Stream Environments (스트림 환경에서 높은 균일신뢰도를 지원하는 가변 크기 샘플링)

  • 본 논문에서는 스트림 환경에서의 샘플링 기법 중 랜덤 샘플링과 유사한 특성을 갖는 KSample의 균일신뢰도 향상에 초점을 맞춘다. 이를 위해, 먼저 KSample의 균일신뢰도 문제점을 분석하여 KSample의 균일신뢰도가 초기에 많이 감소하는 현상을 초기 균일신뢰도 저하 문제로, KSample의 균일신뢰도가 지속적으로 감소하는 현상을 지속 균일신뢰도 저하 문제라 정의한다. 그리고 초기 균일신뢰도 저하 문제를 발생시키는 성질을 과거 샘플 불변으로, 지속 균일신뢰도 저하 문제를 발생시키는 성질을 샘플 추출 범위 증가로 정의하고 이를 해결하여 균일신뢰도를 향상시킨 UC KSample을 제안한다. 실험 결과, 샘플링 비율 p=0.01, 균일신뢰도 하한 ${\varepsilon}=0.7$일 때, UC KSample의 균일신뢰도가 기존 KSample 보다 약 2.2배 증가하였고, 균일신뢰도는 항상 하한 이상으로 유지되었다. 본 연구는 스트림 환경에서 중요한 척도인 균일신뢰도를 KSample에 결합시킨 최초의 시도로서, 샘플링 비율을 유지하며 동적으로 샘플링하는 KSample의 장점은 유지하면서도 균일신뢰도를 증가시킨 우수한 연구라 사료된다.

  • 본 논문에서는 한국형 틸팅열차의 유지보수 활동을 위해 신뢰성기반유지보수체계를 제안하였다. 열차시스템을 3단계의 교체 부품 단위로 분류하고, 각 단위에 대해 기능블록도를 작성한 후 고장모드 영향 분석을 실시하였다. 각 단위의 심각도를 결정한 후 유지보수 정책을 제안하였으며, 틸팅열차를 위한 유지보수 기준을 정하고, 실제 사례를 제시하였다. 제안된 신뢰성기반유지보수체계는 기존 유지보수 체계와도 호환성을 갖고 있으며, 안전성 향상과 유지보수 활동 효율화에 기여할 수 있다.In this paper, a reliability centered maintenance (RCM) system is proposed to perform maintenance action for Korean Tilting Train. The train system was divided into line replaceable units up to three steps. Functional block diagrams were drawn and failure mode effect analysis for the units was carried out. The criticality of each unit was determined and a maintenance policy was proposed. Maintenance and repair criteria for the tilting train were determined and an example was presented. The proposed RCM system is compatible with the previous maintenance system and contributes to improvement of safety and efficiency of maintenance action.

  • The main purpose of this study is to determine the optimal periodic inspection for Anti-Ship-Missile(Harpoon Block 1) fielding on Korea Navy Ship. In order to perform this study, the data from the Korea Navy (Harpoon maintenance & storage reliability) were collected from 1984 to 2004. Storage failure rate & MTBF for Harpoon block 1 were analysed by using mathematical model & reliability analysis software(Relex) and finally determined optimal periodic inspection. The suggested methodology will be used to determine and reevaluate the periodic inspection of Anti-Ship-Missiles for the Korea Navy.

A Study of Estimating Maintenance Cost of NAVAID (시계열을 이용한 항행안전시설 유지비용 추정 연구)

  • 본 논문에서는 항행안전시설을 구성하는 구성요소를 체계별로 구분하고 체계별 운영시간 에 따른 고장율 등을 분석한다. 아울러 설계수명에 점차 도달한 항행안전시설 운영단계에서 발생한 유지보수비용 데이터를 토대로 남은 설계수명 기간 동안 향후 발생 가능한 유지보수 비용을 추정한다. 이런 분석결과를 통해 장비의 신뢰성 관련 선행연구들에서 주로 인용되고 있는 욕조커브(Bathtub Curve) 이론과 본 연구의 비용예측 결과와의 연관성을 진단하고 안정적인 유지보수를 위한 기초자료로서 활용되고자 한다. ARIMA 예측모형을 토대로 향후 10개월 간 발생가능한 유지보수 비용을 예측한 결과 비용이 상승할 것이라는 통계적으로 신뢰할 만한 추정 결과를 얻었다. ARIMA를 활용한 추정결과는 앞선 MTBF 분석내용을 지지함과 동시에 시설의 정비 신뢰도를 보여주는 욕조커브 분포와 일치하는 신뢰할 수 있는 결론을 얻은 것이다.
