A Study on Forecasting the Demand of WCDMA Mobile Phones (WCDMA 이동통신 단말기 수요예측에 관한 연구)

  • The demand of domestic mobile service has been explosively increasing. The forthcoming WCDMA, which open in 2006, is also a key technology in the mobile service market. The WCDMA service needs HSPDA phones which will be evolved to HSDPA. In the aspect of drawing up management strategy, practical researches about forecasting the demands of new mobile phones are necessary. In this paper, we provide the modified the Lotka-volterra model as a forecasting model, which is concerned with effects of phone prices and performance.

Effects of Service Characteristics of a Subscription-based OTT on User Satisfaction and Continuance Intention: Evaluation by Netflix Users (구독형 OTT 서비스 특성이 이용자 만족과 지속 사용 의도에 미치는 영향: 넷플릭스 이용자를 대상으로)

  • This study examined how the quality of Netflix service affects user satisfaction and continuance intention. This study classified the quality of Netflix service as content diversity, rate system appropriateness, recommendation system, N-screen service, binge viewing, and service quality, and examined the effect of each dimension on user satisfaction and continuous intention. We conduced an online survey on 202 Netflix users and analyzed the data with the SEM. Results are as follows. First, content diversity, recommendation system, binge-viewing and service quality are positively associated with user satisfaction. Second, the N-Screen service has neither direct nor indirect effects on continuance intention. However, rate system has a direct effect on continuance intention. On the other hand, content diversity, recommendation systems, binge-viewing, and quality of service affect continuance intention positively through user satisfaction. Finally, it is shown that user satisfaction and continuance intention have a significant static correlation as predicted.

  • 국내 브로드밴드 시장은 성숙기를 넘어서 포화기에 접어듬에 따라, 가격경쟁 및 접속서비스의 속도 경쟁력을 기반으로 가입자 천이/이탈 현상이 심화되고 있다. 이에, 네트워크 엑세스 사업자들은 타사업자 대비 차별화된 경쟁력을 제시하여 고객 충성도 향상은 물론 신규 매출을 창출할 수 있는 방안을 제공하기 위한 돌파구를 찾고 있다. 이를 위한 해결방안으로서 개인화에 기반한 브로드밴드 사업의 방향 전환과 이를 지원하기 위한 장비의 기술 동향에 대해 소개하고자 한다.

Diffusion Patterns of Telecommunications Services with Network Evolution (네트워크 진화에 따른 통신서비스 확산 패턴의 변화)

  • Traditionally, diffusion of telecommunications services has been considerably affected by presence of critical mass and network externalities, and thus shown the so-called late take-off phenomenon. However, as telecommunications network evolves from circuit switching to packet switching, enabling diverse new services such as Internet access, Internet banking and web hosting, it seems this traditional diffusion patterns are changing. By comparing diffusion of the packet-based services with those of circuit-based services and durable goods, we have found the late take-off phenomenon is not involved in diffusion of newly introduced the packet-based services. Moreover, we concluded diffusion of the packet-based services is much faster than that of durable goods, thus showing early take-off phenomenon. Based on this empirical result, we suggest Telcos and ISPs should pay as much attention to the growth state as the introduction stage in order for their packet-based services to be successful in the markets.

  • Nowadays an increasing number of Internet users are running individual websites as Blog or Cyworld. As this type of personal media has a great influence on communication among people, business comes to care about Network Effect, Network Software, and Social Network. For instance, Cyworld created the web service called 'Minihompy' for individual web-logs, and acquired 2.4milion users in 2007. Although many people assumed that the popularity of Minihompy, or Blog would be a passing fad, Cyworld has improved its service, and expanded its Network with various contents. This kind of expansion reflects survival efforts from infinite competitions among ISPs (Internet Service Provider) with focus on enhancing usability to users. However, Cyworld's Network Effect is gradually diminished in these days. Both of low production cost of service vendors and the low searching/conversing costs of users combine to make ISPs hard to keep their market share sustainable. To overcome this lackluster trend, Cyworld has adopted new strategies and try to lock their users in their service. Various efforts to improve the continuance and expansion of Network effect remain unclear and uncertain. If we understand beforehand how a service would improve Network effect, and which service could bring more effect, ISPs can get substantial help in launching their new business strategy. Regardless many diverse ideas to increase their user's duration online ISPs cannot guarantee 'how the new service strategies will end up in profitability. Therefore, this research studies about Network effect of Cyworld's 'Minihompy' using System-Dynamics method which could analyze dynamic relation between users and ISPs. Furthermore, the research aims to predict changes of Network Effect based on the strategy of new service. 'Page View' and 'Duration Time' can be enhanced for the short tenn because they enhance the service functionality. However, these services cannot increase the Network in the long-run. Limitations of this research include that we predict the future merely based on the limited data. We also limit the independent variables over Network Effect only to the following two issues: Increasing the number of users and increasing the Service Functionality. Despite of some limitations, this study perhaps gives some insights to the policy makers or others facing the stiff competition in the network business.

Optimal 3G Telecommunication Service Switching Time Considering Telecommunication Quality of Service (통신서비스 품질을 고려한 신규 통신서비스 가입 시기에 대한 연구)

  • This paper examines when a consumer in existent telecommunication 2G applies to new telecommunication service 3G from the viewpoint of an option pricing theory. To improve telecommunication quality of service, the consumer applies to 3G. The application means an exchange of 2G for 3G with extra costs such as searching and conversion costs. Since the option to exchange is a right that the consumer can exercise or not, application to 3G is deemed an exercise of the option to exchange at most suitable value of the option. The timing to exercise the option depends on the extra costs and the additional communication benefit from new telecommunication quality of service. These affect an optimal timing to apply to 3G. The optimal applying or switching timing to 3G is when an economic value of the option to exchange is equal to an economic value of the extra costs plus the additional telecommunication quality from new telecommunication service. The option analysis used in this paper is applicable to various industries.

Chatting-based Commerce Platform Enabling Non-Volatile Social Curation Service (비휘발적 소셜 큐레이션 서비스가 가능한 대화형 상거래 플랫폼 개발)

  • The social curation service that selectively provides information generated by individuals or groups with the same interests can have a synergistic effect when combined with the recently used SNS-based chatting function. If these kinds of chatting-based curation technologies are applied to the Internet shopping malls, particularly, buyers can obtain more reliable information in real time basis, and sellers can provide them with more differentiated and rich information in a continuous manner. This research suggests a chatting-based commerce platform that provides the social curation service based on chats among sellers, existing buyers, and potential buyers. The proposed commerce platform can organize a chat channel for each store and product not only to immediately respond to new and existing customer inquiries about stores, brands, and detailed products, but also to continuously activate differentiated sales strategies to customers subscribed to the channel. In particular, MongoDB is used to permanently save and archive the information and chatting history of each channel, so that the buyer can search and refer to them recorded in the corresponding channel at any time.

Performance Analysis of DoS Security Algorithm for Multimedia Contents Services (멀티미디어 콘텐츠의 서비스거부 방지 알고리즘 성능분석)

  • In this paper, the performance of the DoS information security algorithm is evaluated to provide the multimedia traffic between the nodes using the multicasting services. The essence technology for information security to distribute the multimedia contents is presented. Under the multicasting services, a node participating new group needs a new address and the node compares the collision with the existing nodes, then DoS attack can be occurred between the nodes by a malicious node. Using the NS2 simulator, the number of DoS attacks, the average number of trials to generate new address, and the average time to create address are analyzed. From simulation results, the efficient algorithm with relevant random number design according to the DRM network is needed to provide secure multimedia contents distribution.

  • Recently, Korean medium-sized medical organizations require innovative strategies. Network-driven concerns in Korean medical organization have been a front burner issue to enhance economic and managerial efficiencies. Effective network-driven collaboration depends upon effective processes and economics strategies among medical providers group. From this motivation, we studied and provided the systems' theoretical background and networked hospital system structures. The aim of suggested research model in this paper is to overcome demerit of stand-alone medium-sized hospitals and analyze a system dynamics model to measure managerial performances. The developed system dynamics model is to quantify the effects of network strategy based on the historical financial data of real-life hospitals network experiences. The network effects are resulted in efficiencies and effectiveness enhancements in competitiveness through advertisement and effective education system. The simulations of system dynamics results can explain the improvement in financial outcome by joining in the network group. The network effects are shown more effective in dental hospital than other groups. In conclusion, it is expected that network effects have a critical influence of managerial, marketing, and medical collaboration performance for any type of medical hospitals.

  • CRM(Customer Relationship Management) improves the competitiveness of small companies to large enterprises. E-mail, SMS (Short Message Service), telephony service, DM (Direct Mail) are used for customer response in many companies. In order to improve company's profit, business diversification is in progress with protecting the succession of existing customers, and the only of new customers. Futhermore, BPR (Business Process Re-engineering) and BPM (Business Process Management) of the CRM can be easily found in many companies, because it is the first contact point to the company at the customer's view. This paper discusses the development of CRM, and proposes a call object routing agent that is the main engine of the CRM. Result of performance evaluation of proposed method show that the system is effective and powerful enough to use at the multi-channel environment.
