  • Most of the plant models based on L-system or particle systems have focused on visual shape of plant. However, the interaction between the plant and its environment in virtual environment will make the plant more natural in diverse situations so that users will be immersed in system. To this end we structure the plant object organized in an ontology, introduce calculating method of plant growth rate based on juvenile energy.

  • This study examined the criteria for efficient LEDs used throughout the experiment of an LED with another light color growth to be used in a plant factory. The experiment was confirmed by measuring the Red-LED, Blue-LED, plant growth, and amount of carbon reduction in a White-LED environment. The white-LED showed a similar growth trend to the Red-LED. Blue-LED showed the lowest growth. Measurements of the carbon dioxide levels, showed that the Red-LED and blue LED produced the lowest levels. The combination of the ratio of the LED showed four Red-LEDs and one blue LED to be the higher of the two. In addition, three Red-LED and one Blue-LED produced equal growth to that of the white-LED. In addition, as much as possible, red is the light color that obtains the result suitable for plant factories.

  • The purpose of this study is to change plant growth according to the light quantity of LED light source and to standardize plant factories technology according to the optimal LED light range. Growth was relatively stable at the 1,400 lx and 1,600 lx intensities, and growth continued with increasing light intensity, but growth slowed down with growth without leaves (Ed- I don't understand). The growth characteristics at 400 lx to 800 lx were sustained to some extent during the experimental period, but the growth of the larvae was maintained until the 7th day and the growth of leaves was not developed. From 1,000 lx to 1,400 lx, brightness, leaf growth and daily growth increased, and the growth cycle exhibited a repeating cycle of growth and slowdown. In addition, 1,600 lx and 1,800 lx showed similar growth to that at 1,400 lx, but leaf growth was high. However, at 1,800 lx, the growth was slightly higher than at 1,400lx and it slowed down over time. In addition, the stronger the light, the higher the temperature around the plant and the greater the dryness of the leaves due to the heat emitted from the light source.

  • Phytoextraction is a technique that uses plants to remediate metal-contaminated soils. However, this technique cannot be applied in highly metal-contaminated areas, as plants cannot normally grow under such conditions. Therefore, this study investigated the introduction of various biodegradable chelating agents to increase the bioavailability of metals in highly metal-contaminated areas. Mercury (Hg) was selected as the target metal, while cysteine (Cys), histidine (His), malate, succinate, oxalate, citrate, and ethylenediamine (EDA) were used as biodegradable chelating agents. Plants were grown on agar media containing various chelating agents and Hg to analyze the effect on plant root growth. Cys and EDA were both found to diminish the inhibitory effect of Hg on plant root growth, whereas His, citrate, and ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) did not show any significant effects, and malate, succinate, and oxalate even promoted the inhibitory effect of Hg on plant root growth. Thus, Cys and EDA would seem to be promising biodegradable chelating agents for highly Hg-contaminated areas.

  • In order to develop an efficient feed for successful growth of Golden frog, Rana plancyi chosenica, larvae, we compared and analyzed the growth of the frog larvae, supplying four different food types. The growth of Golden frog larvae fed a vegetable food of spirogyra and cabbages and a mixture of vegetable and animal foods, TetraMin, a commercial fish food, or eel feed, was faster than that of the larvae fed only organic matters and vegetables collected from natural habitats. Among artificial food types, the mixture of vegetable and animal foods was more efficient for larval growth than the vegetable food. For the successful metamorphosis, the mixture of vegetable food and Tetramin was the most efficient food, comparing other types of food. These results suggest that a mixture of vegetable and animal food mixed in an appropriate proportion would be the most efficient artificial feed for the successful growth and metamorphosis of Golden frog larvae.

  • High turbidity submersion due to torrential downpour is one of the factors that influences the plant growth. This study is focused on analyzing the plant's growth rate for Salix species such as gracilisyla, koreensis, glandulosa when these trees are waterlogged. The length of shoots for this control group in the natural state is 33.4% (gracilisyla), 24.3% (koreensis), 23.9% (glandulosa), however, they stopped growing in submersion. Compared to the leaf number of Salix species of this control group in the natural state, 144.5% (gracilisyla), 77.3% (koreensis), 40.3% (glandulosa) in the natural state 30 days, in 30 days submersion, the number of leaves is zero except koreensis. In the results of this experiment, Salix species stopped growing quickly when submersed. This study concludes that it is necessary to plant eco-friendly plants around the slope of the reservoir and dam where flooding takes place frequently.

  • Phytoextraction is a technique which uses plants to clean up metal-contaminated soils. Recently, various chelating agents were introduced into this technique to increase the bioavailability of metals in soils. Even though the technique is an economic and environment-friendly method, this cannot be applied in highly metal-contaminated areas because plants will not normally grow in such conditions. Therefore, this research focuses on identifying chelating agents which are biodegradable and applicable to highly metal-contaminated areas. Alunimum (Al) as a target metal and cysteine (Cys), histidine (His), citrate, malate, oxalate, succinate, and ethylenediamine (EDA) as biodegradable chelating agents were selected. Ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) was used as a comparative standard. Plants were grown on agar media containing various chelating agents with Al to analyze the effect on plant growth. His slightly diminished the inhibitory effect of Al on root growth of plants, whereas, Cys, citrate, malate, oxalate, and succinate did not show significant effects. Both EDTA and EDA strongly diminished the inhibitory effect of Al on root growth. The effect of EDA is correlated with decreased Al uptake into the plants. In conclusion, as a biodegradable chelating agent, EDA is a good candidate for highly Al-contaminated areas.
