Properties of a Thermosetting Epoxy Composite : Effect of Isothermal Physical Aging (에폭시 열경화 복차재료의 성질 : 등온물리시효의 효과)

  • Isothermal physical aging of a glass fiber/epoxy composite was examined at different aging temperatures ($T_a$) and degrees of conversion (monitored by the glass transition temperature, $T_g$) by means of the TBA torsion pendulum technique. The range of aging temperature was from 10 to $130^{\circ}C$ : the conversion was systematically changed from $T_g$=$76^{\circ}C$ to $T_g$=$177^{\circ}C$ (fully crosslinked). The effect of isothermal physical aging was manifested as perturbations of the modulus and mechanical loss vs. temperature in the vicinity of $T_a$ for all conversions. The rate of isothermal physical aging determined from the change of modulus with aging time at fixed aging temperature decreased and then increased with increasing conversion below T$_{a}$=9$0^{\circ}C$. There exists a superposition in aging rate vs. ($T_g$ -$T_a$) by shifting horizontally and vertically. This implies that the physical aging process is independent of the change of chemical structure as conversion proceeds. It has been found that water absorbed at the aging temperature below $70^{\circ}C$ during isothermal physical aging lowers the apparent aging rate. It is due to the absorbed water molecules forming strong polar interactions with hydroxyl group on network chain and reducing the segmental mobility during the physical aging.g.

  • 본 소고에서는 Al-Zn-Mg 계통의 고강도 알루미늄합금의 제조과정에서 실시하는 열처리 공정을 통해 얻어지는 시효경화 효과, 합금원소 첨가에 따른 석출물의 생성과 이에 따른 석출경화 효과와 용착금속의 응고균열 발생과의 상호관계를 조사하고 용접열영향부의 용질원자 확산과 입계의 liquid film에 의한 액화(liquation) 균열의 생성을 분석하여 설명하고자 한다.

  • Mg-Zn-Ca합금의 잉곳트는 BN을 내벽에 바른 4x$10^{-5}$Torr의 진공의 석영관내에서 제조하였다. Mg-Zn합금계의 입자미세화를 위하여 0.5-5wt.%조성범위의 Ca를 첨가하였다. 제조된 합금을 용체화처리한 후 결정립크기와 경도를 측정하였다. Mg-6wt.%Zn합금의 입자미세화효과는 Ca가 1.5wt%첨가 될 때 최적의 조건이었다. Mg-6wt.% Zn과 Mg-6wt.% Zn-2wt.% Ca및 Mg-6wt.% Zn-1.5wt.% Si합금을 시효처리하여 시효거동을 조사하였다. 입자미세화에 의한 경도증가효과는 Mg-Zn-Ca합금계에서 크게 나타났으며 시효에 의한 경도증가효과는 Mg-Zn-Si합금계에서 크게 나타났다. Mg-6wt.%Zn합금의 부식전류밀도는 0.5wt.% Ca의 조성에서 감소되었다.

  • This was studied about aging characteristic of AC4A/$SiC_{w}$ 10-30v/o reinforced composite. Aging hardenability was decreased $SiC_{w}$ 30% > 10% > 20%. Aging hardening of T6 treatmented composite was higher absolute value than AC4A I/M material. And this results indicated initial hardening phenomenon according to increase $SiC_{w}$ volume fraction. Reinforced effect by pressure was the same effect as before aging treatment and the best condition pressure at 75MPa. Similar to reinforced effect according to $SiC_{w}$ volume fraction was 30 % > 10 % > 20 %. In case of pressure is low, whisker is not break the same time press with base metal after wetting. After it is wetting with base metal, a part transformed or wetting part break and whisker maintain original shape or a part transformed on the otherhand, in case of pressure is high, whisker is break in same time it was not against pressure and whisker's shape is near a polygon or spherical shape.

  • The Ag-Pd-Cu alloys containing a small amount of Au is commonly used for dental purposes, because this alloy cheaper than Au-base alloys for clinical use. However, the most important characteristic of this alloy is age-hardenability, which is not exhibited by other Ag-base dental alloys. The specimens used were Ag-30Pd-10Cu ternary alloy and Au addition alloy. These alloys were melted and casted by induction electric furnace and centrifugal casting machine in Ar atmosphere. These specimens were solution treated for 2hr at $800^{\circ}C$ and were then quenched into iced water, and aged at 350-$550^{\circ}C$ Age-hardening characteristic of the small Au-containing Ag-Pd-Cu dental alloys were investigated by means of hardness testing, X-ray diffraction and electron microscope observations, electrical resistance, differential scanning calorimetric, energy dispersed spectra and electron probe microanalysis. Principal results are as follows ; Maximum hardening occured in two co-phases of ${\alpha}_2$ + PdCu In stage II, decomposition of the $\alpha$ solid solution to a PdCu ordered phase($L1_o$ type) and an Ag-rich ${\alpha}_2$ phase occurred and a discontinuous precipitation occurred at the grain boundary. From the electron microscope study, it was concluded that the cause of age-hardening in this alloy is the precipitation of the PdCu redered phase, which has AuCu I type face-centered tetragonal structure. Precipitation procedure was ${\alpha}{\to}{\alpha}_1+PdCu{\to}{\alpha}_2+PdCu$ at Pd/Cu = 3 Pd element of Ag-Pd-Cu alloy is more effective dental alloy on anti-corrosion and is suitable to isothermal ageing at $450^{\circ}C$.

Mechanical Properties and Stress-Strain Model of Re-Bars Coldly Bent and Straightened (굽힌 후 편 철근의 기계적 성질과 응력-변형률 모델)

  • In the construction of high-rise buildings, bent re-bars are manually straightened to connect slabs to core-walls, which are usually cast before floor structures. During cold bending and straightening of re-bars, plastic deformation causing work hardening, Bauschinger effect and aging hardening is unavoidable. Tensile tests of coldly bent and straightened re-bars were conducted with test parameters of grade, diameter, and bend radius of re-bars as well as age between bending and straightening. Test results showed that proportional limits were lower and strain hardening occurred without yield plateaus. Inside and outside of re-bars with compression and tension deformations, respectively, during bending showed lower yield points due to Bauschinger effect and no yield plateaus due to work hardening, respectively. When re-bar grade was higher, yield point became significantly lower where Grade 400 re-bars had yield strengths lower than specified yield strength of 400 MPa. Because the surface of re-bar has higher strength than the core of re-bar, Bauschinger effect was more obvious for higher-grade re-bars. When age between bending and straightening was greater, yield strength increased and elongation decreased (i.e. embrittlement occurs). Using measured data, stress-strain relationship for straightened re-bars was developed based on Ramberg-Osgood model, which can be used to evaluate stiffness of joints when straightened re-bars are applied.

Microstructure and Precipitation Behaviour of Mg-6Zn-1.5Si Alloys (Mg-6Zn-2Cu 및 Mg-6Zn-1.5Si합금의 미세조직 및 석출거동)

  • Mg-6Zn-2Cu 및 Mg-6Zn-1.5Si(wt%)합금의 미세조직 및 석출거동을 조사하였다. 합금은 $4 x 10^{-4}$ 의 진공분위기에서 제조하였고 용체화처리는 $435^{\circ}C$에서 8시간 행하였다. Mg-6Zn합금에 1.5wt.%Si를 첨가한 합금에서는 입계 및 입내에 $10\mu\textrm{m}$-2$\mu\textrm{m}$크기의 구형의 $MgZn_{2}$$Mg_{2}$Si상이 존재한다. 시효경화거동은 용체화처리된 Mg-6Zn-2Cu 및 Mg-6Zn-1.5Si합금에서 조사되었다. 결정립 미세화에 의한 경도증가효과는 Mg-6Zn-2Cu합금계에서 크게 나타났으나, 시효에 의한 경도증가효과는 Mg-Zn-Si합금계에서 크게 나타났다. 시효처리 후 생성된 석출상들은 투과전자현미경 분석결과 Mg-6Zn-2Cu합금에서는$ Mg_{2}$$Zn_{3}$이었고 Mg-6Zn-1.5Si 합금에서는 $Mg_{2}$$Zn_{11}$ /이었다.

  • Cu, Si, Mg, Ca, Cd, Sn, Pb등이 첨가되는 Al계 bearing 합금은 베어링 특성이 우수하여 최근 자동차드의 엔진 부품용 베어링소재로 많이 사용되어지고 있다. 합금원소 Si는 합금의 경도를 향상시키며 Si-rich한 경한 입자를 생성시켜 소착저항력(antiseizure)을 향상시키며 또한 합금의 주조성도 향상시켜 내마모성이 요구되는 Al계 베어링 합금에 주합금원소로 첨가된다. 본 연구에서는 강제죠반법과 급냉응고법을 이용하여 Al-Pb-Gu계와 Al-Si-Gu-Pb계 베어링합금을 제조하였다. 베어링합금이 급냉응고법으로 제조되었기 때문에 합금의 기지에는 Cu가 과포된 상태로 존재하여 석출경화에 앞서 행하여지는 용체화처리와 같은 효과가 얻어졌다. 본 실험에서는 Cu가 과포화된 기지를 갖는 주조상태의 시료를 시효열처리하여 석출경화된 베어링합금을 얻어서 석출경화에 의한 기지강화가 베어링합금의 내마모성질에 어떠한 효과를 가져오는지 규명하였다.

  • In order to refine the grain size of Mg-Zn alloy 0.5 to 6wt.%Cu or Si elements were added. Alloy ingot was made under vacuum atmosphere of 4 ${\times}$ 10$\^$-4/ Torr in the quartz tube coated by BN. Grain size and hardness were measured after solution treatment for 8 hours at 435$^{\circ}C$. Optimal condition for grain size refining effect was obtained at the minimum composition of 2wt.%Cu or 1.5wt.%Si addition to Mg-6wt%Zn alloy. Age hardening behavior was experimented at the optimal compositions of the Mg-6wt.%Zn, Mg-6wt.% Zn-2wt.%Cu and Mg-6wt.% Zn-1.5wt.%Si. The hardness increment due to fine grain size was higher at the Mg-Zn-Cu alloy system, but that due to age hardening was higher at the Mg-Zn-Si alloy system.

  • Scandium을 소량 첨가한 Al합금은 용체화 처리 후 시효에 의해 강화되며, 합금의 주 강화상은 Ll2 type의 규칙구조를 갖는 A1$_3$Sc상으로 열처리시 아주 미세한 정합의 구형입자로 석출한다. Scandium은 Al합금에서 첨가원소의 at%에 따른 경량화 효과가 Gold 다음으로 크다. 현재까지의 Al-Sc계 합금에 대한 연구는 시효경화에 따른 기계적 특성 변화에 대해서만 이루어져 왔으나 본 연구에서는 투과전자현미경을 이용하여 열처리에 따른 미세조직의 변화, 급냉 상태에서 생성된 A13Sc입자의 형성 및 계면구조, 시효에 따른 석출거동을 규명하였다. 실험에 사용된 alloy는 미국의 Ashurst 사에서 제조된 Al-2wt%Sc모합금과 순도 99.9%의 Al을 혼합하여 Arc melting법으로 제조하였다. Primary A13Sc상은 Ll2 type으로 응고시에 용융상태에서 먼저 핵생성되어 Al의 핵생성 site로 작용한다. 635$^{\circ}C$에서 용체화 처리한 시편에서는 수백 nm 크기를 갖는 $Al_3$Sc상이 계면과 matrix내에 구형으로 존재함을 확인하였다. 수백 nm 크기의 $Al_3$Sc상의 내부에는 역위상 경계(Antiphase boundary)이 존재로 인한 특징적인 contrast가 관찰되었으며, 이 $Al_3$Sc상은 응고시 생성된 작은 $Al_3$Sc상들이 모여져 생성된 것으로 추측된다. 수백 nm 크기 의 $Al_3$Sc사와 Al matrix 사이의 계면에는 격자상수 차이에 의한 많은 edge dislocation들이 관찰된다.
