  • Frequently changeable functional requirements in System Management CSCI Software make it difficult to reuse an overall application, but only the partial class codes repeatedly as a new version of Naval Combat Management System is developed. This structural environment leads to increasing development time and expenses. This is why modularization for System Management CSCI Software is proposed as a solution, leveraging the advantages of proper standardization and functional expandability offered by Standard Interface Architecture. This paper outlines the comparisons of modified class ratios as well as software reliability test runtime results between before and after implementing the modularization for System Management CSCI Software. The findings demonstrate there is sufficient improvement in areas, such as higher maintenance and reusability, supporting the application of modularization for System Management CSCI Software with the implementation of Standard Interface Architecture.

  • Time synchronization is crucial for ensuring the reliable operation of modern economic and social infrastructures. Techniques such as Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)-based methods and Two-Way Satellite Time and Frequency Transfer (TWSTFT) play key roles in precise time comparison and synchronization. TWSTFT, in particular, is recognized for its ability to achieve sub-nanosecond accuracy in time transfer, making it indispensable in fields such as satellite navigation. This paper proposes a comprehensive performance evaluation method for TWSTFT modems, emphasizing pre-validation in controlled environments to mitigate operational challenges. Using the proposed evaluation method, the study presents the standard deviation of RTT according to C/N0 and compares it with the datasheet of a commercial TWSTFT modem. Through this approach, the aim of this study is to enhance the reliability and accuracy of TWSTFT-based time synchronization across diverse applications.

  • The ANSI N13.32 recommends that a study of the angular response of a dosimeter be carried out once, although no pass/fail criterion is given for angular response. Gamma dose equivalent conversion and angular dependence factors were calculated by using MCNP code for the case of ANSI N13.32 extremity phantoms(finger and arm) at the depth of $7mg/cm^2$. Those extremity dosimeters were assumed to be irradiated from both monoenergitic photons and ISO X-ray narrow beams. These calculated gamma dose equivalent conversion and angular dependence factors were compared to B. Grosswendt's result calculated by using X-ray beams. The result showed that the dose equivalent conversion factors of this study agreed well with that of B. Grosswendt for all energies within 2% except 7% in the case of the low energies. In the case of angular dependence factors comparison, they agreed within 3%. It was shown that angular dependence factors of the finger phantom decreased as the horizontal angle of the phantom increased for the ISO X-ray beams less than 60keV. For the higher energy X-ray beams range they decreased slightly around 40 degree, but then increased from this energy to 90 degree.

  • Computational fluid numerical analysis using the commercial code CFX was performed to develop a Pelton turbine for a pico hydro power generator using the circulating water of a cooling tower in a large building. The performance of the Pelton turbine was examined for different design factors, such as the bucket shape, in which the Pelton wheel was connected in an appropriate manner to the pipe section, and the number of buckets in order to find the optimal design of Pelton turbine for a pico hydro power using surplus water. A benchmark test was carried out on the manufactured small scale Pelton turbine to validate the design method of the Pelton turbine by numerical analysis. The results obtained by comparing the flow characteristics and power output measured using the ultrasonic flowmeter, the pressure transducer and the oscilloscope with the numerical results confirmed the validity of the analytical design method. The possibility of developing Pelton turbines for kW class pico hydro power generators using surplus water with an average circulation velocity of 1.2 m/s for the chosen bucket shape and number of buckets in a 30 m high building was confirmed.

  • Ablative material in a rocket nozzle is exposed to high temperature combustion gas, thus undergoes complicated thermal/chemical change in terms of chemical destruction of surface and thermal decomposition of inner material. Therefore, method for conjugate analysis of thermal response inside carbon/phenolic material including rocket nozzle flow, surface chemical reaction and thermal decomposition is developed in this research. CFD is used to simulate flow field inside nozzle and conduction in the ablative material. A change in material density and a heat absorption caused by the thermal decomposition is considered in solid energy equation. And algebraic equation under boundary layer assumption is used to deduce reaction rate on the surface and resulting destruction of the surface. In order to test the developed method, small rocket nozzle is solved numerically. Although the ablation of nozzle throat is deduced to be higher than the experiment, shape change and temperature distribution inside material is well predicted. Error in temperature with experimental results in rapid heating region is found to be within 100 K.

  • As the use of software is more wider in the safety-critical nuclear fields, so study to improve safety and quality of the software has been actively carried out for more than the past decade. In the nuclear power plant, nuclear man-machine interface systems (MMIS) performs the function of the brain and neural networks of human and consists of fully digitalized equipments. Therefore, errors in the software for nuclear MMIS may occur an abnormal operation of nuclear power plant, can result in economic loss due to the consequential trip of the nuclear power plant. Verification and validation (V&V) is a software-engineering discipline that helps to build quality into software, and the nuclear industry has been defined by laws and regulations to implement and adhere to a through verification and validation activities along the software lifecycle. V&V is a collection of analysis and testing activities across the full lifecycle and complements the efforts of other quality-engineering functions. This study propose a methodology based on V&V activities and related tool-chain to improve quality for software in the nuclear power plant. The optimized methodology consists of a document evaluation, requirement traceability, source code review, and software testing. The proposed methodology has been applied and approved to the real MMIS project for Shin-Hanul units 1&2.

  • This research presents an efficient method based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) for estimating the resistance performance of a ship with a large settlement amount and a dynamic trim. The settlement of the inviscid flow analysis and the results of dynamic trim were used to set a large attitude for the ship prior to performing a viscous flow analysis; a viscous flow analysis was subsequently performed by Dynamic Fluid Body Interaction (DFBI). This method is termed as method I, in which a simple grating system can be used without employing the overset mesh technique by setting many attitudes before interpretation. Thus, method I is advantageous in reducing calculation time and improving calculation accuracy. The viscous flow analysis was performed using a commercial CFD code STAR-CCM+. Compared with the final convergence result, the first viscous flow analysis result of method I exhibited a variation of less than 1 % of resistance. The result was obtained by changing the gratings each time an attitude is changed at each calculation stage, based on the DFBI method provided to STAR-CCM+ using a simple grating system, which is not a superposed grating. This method is termed as method II. Compared with method II of resistance, method I exhibited a dif erence of 0.03-0.6 % for linear velocity. The results of method I were confirmed to be qualitatively and quantitatively appropriate through comparison with several trillion simulations.

  • The DECOVALEX project is one of the representative international cooperative projects to enhance the understanding of the complex Thermo-Hydro-Mechanical-Chemical(THMC) coupled behavior in the high-level radioactive waste disposal system based on the numerical simulation. DECOVALEX-2023 is the current phase consisting of 7 tasks, and Task C aims to model the THM coupled behavior in the disposal system based on the Full-scale Emplacement (FE) experiment at the Mont-Terri underground rock laboratory. This study performs the numerical simulation based on the OGS-FLAC developed for the current study. In the numerical model, we emplaced the heater with constant power horizontally based on the FE experiment and monitored the pressure development, temperature increase, and mechanical deformation at the specific monitoring points. We monitored the capillary pressure as the primary effect inducing the flow in the buffer system, and thermal stress and pressurization were dominant in the surrounding rocks' area. The results will also be compared and validated with the other participating groups and the experimental data further.

  • The current weapon system is operated as a complex weapon system with various standards and protocols applied, so there is a risk of failure in smooth information exchange during combined and joint operations on the battlefield. The interoperability of weapon systems to carry out precise strikes on key targets through rapid situational judgment between weapon systems is a key element in the conduct of war. Since the Korean military went into service, there has been a need to change the configuration and improve performance of a large number of software and hardware, but there is no verification system for the impact on interoperability, and there are no related test tools and facilities. In addition, during combined and joint training, errors frequently occur during use after arbitrarily changing the detailed operation method and software of the weapon/power support system. Therefore, periodic verification of interoperability between weapon systems is necessary. To solve this problem, rather than having people schedule an evaluation period and conduct the evaluation once, AI should continuously evaluate the interoperability between weapons and power support systems 24 hours a day to advance warfighting capabilities. To solve these problems, To this end, preliminary research was conducted to improve defense interoperability capabilities by applying natural language processing techniques (①Word2Vec model, ②FastText model, ③Swivel model) (using published algorithms and source code). Based on the results of this experiment, we would like to present a methodology (automated evaluation of interoperability requirements evaluation / level measurement through natural language processing model) to implement an automated defense interoperability evaluation tool without relying on humans.
